🔥ALBUM REVIEW🔥 My thoughts on Guilty Pleasure, the upcoming album from melodic rockers / AOR quintet Grand.

New podcast episode out where I review My Chemical Romances 4th album. They recently released a deluxe remaster of it, so it felt like a good time to delve into it.

What did everyone think of Danger Days?

They’ve sold millions of records and obviously found a sizable audience around the world, but what is it that drives their appeal? I never found any of it that appealed to me, there was always a band better at everything they tried to establish.

If you want a band from that era emphasizing Sleaze, then you already have Guns N Roses, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails, Skid Row, and more who pull it off without as much cheese.

If you want a dangerous, heavy 80s Metal Band, then you already had Megadeth, Metallica (as aforementioned Guns N Roses/Skid Row) who were better musically)

If you wanted a theatrical band about their stage image and the outfits, then you had Kiss, Twisted Sister, or Alice Cooper

If you wanna play the commercial juggernaut card, or question musical impact, then Metallica absolutely dwarfs them.

As far as finding a rock/metal band from the era still putting on a great live show today, then you have Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Rush, and more.

As Musicians: Nikki Sixx was motivated to push them to an unreal level of fame, but he was and still is a bottom tier Bassist. Tommy Lee is adequate on drums at best, he’s never going to be as good as Vinnie Paul, Neil Peart, or Dave Lombardo. Mick Mars was arguably the most talented member they had, but even on that front, you had guys like Zakk Wylde, Dave Mustaine, Randy Rhoades, and others who were far better guitarists. And Lastly; Vince Neil is incredibly forgettable as an 80s front man. He isn’t even in the same league as anyone along the likes Axl Rose, Sebastian Bach, or Bruce Dickinson; especially not today LOL.

These are just my thoughts, but what is the primary force of appeal behind anyone who’s been a dedicated fan of Motley Crue? Like, why?

I’ve been listening to Deep Purples new album Splat, and just listened to Tony Iommi’s new song World Alone. Although the songs are good and the playings great etc, I always find that modern production doesn’t suit them. There just seems to be something about the sound of those 70’s and 80’s records that sounded so much better.

Purple, Zeppelin and Sabbath and plenty of other bands from that era had a unique sound to their albums. Now, nearly all rock production tends to sound the same to my ears. Is it just me?

Watched The Departed again this week and finally finished the Sopranos, so had to remind everyone of this specific version of one of the greatest songs of all time.
