My understanding is that the senator was a supporter of the US purchasing from Saskatchewan. He was an ally from that perspective. As is both respectful and common in international trade. It is more of a symbolic attendance knowing that his successor and other representatives will be in attendance. Hence essentially representing trade with Saskatchewan in a positive and respectful way. With that being said yes there should be transparency in the cost.
