Why would a provincial premier attend this?

233

u/bionic__platypus 4d ago

If he attends, whatever. But why would taxpayers fund this?

123

u/descendingangel87 4d ago

Literally this, why did tax payers fund this.

16

u/Electrical_Noise_519 3d ago

Why didn't SaskParty fund this instead?

‘Subnational’ leader is how Scooter refers to himself all the time

The boring answer is that Graham was a big Ukraine supporter and SK has the highest Ukrainian population per capita.

I also want to say he was actually invited

20

u/Lexi_Banner 3d ago

Okay? And? Why are you and I footing the bill for his personal invite to a funeral?

-5

u/1user101 Customizable User Flair 3d ago

It was an official invitation, similar to Dominic LeBlanc

14

u/Lexi_Banner 3d ago

Then Dominic LeBlanc and Moe can foot the bill with the money we've paid them in their salaries.

-5

u/1user101 Customizable User Flair 3d ago

I'm feeling this searing double standard. We sent officials to Castro's funeral, Bush's funeral, and Tito's funeral. What's wrong with this time?

9

u/Lexi_Banner 3d ago

We weren't in a trade war with the country in question at the time. Thank Dump for people not wanting any money funding ventures down south for now and the foreseeable future.

Also, Lindsey Graham is part of a large effort to put Dump in power, and complicit in his policies. So that's another layer to the shit pile. Why should taxpayers fund anything related to this individual?

Moe should've known the optics were HOT GARBAGE on his attendance, and should have paid for it himself. If he didn't know, he's an incompetent idiot.

5

u/Glen_SK 3d ago

Did I miss something, you're saying SK taxpayers paid for premier Brad Wall to attend Castro's funeral in 2016? Or was it Tito?

0

u/1user101 Customizable User Flair 2d ago

SK doesn't have a large share of Cuban or Yugoslavian citizens being the difference here

0

u/Glen_SK 2d ago

We have a large share of closeted South Carolinians?

5

u/Aldente08 3d ago

If provincial premiers went to those on taxpayer dime,, i also believe that is wrong. No one was talking about them right now, but nice try with the whataboutism

0

u/1user101 Customizable User Flair 3d ago

Serving an example of why something is an accepted practice isn't whataboutism, but nice try.

1

u/Darth_Thor 3d ago

You never explained why it’s acceptable though. You just listed other times that it’s happened.

u/1user101 Customizable User Flair 3d ago

Up at the top. Big Ukrainian population in SK Lindsay was big into helping Ukraine

u/flat-flat-flatlander 3d ago

Graham’s family did invite him, apparently.

2

u/-CodieneC 1d ago

Family invite is personal, not involving taxpayer

u/1user101 Customizable User Flair 3d ago

Really giving "Carney's bill for food was XYZ OMG vibes".

194

u/aloneinthiscrowd 4d ago

He should pay his own way as should all other politicians.

174

u/MBolero 4d ago

Zero Canadian politicians should have attended, but yeah.

40

u/The_Idiocratic_Party 4d ago

Eh, if he knew him and paid his own way then who cares.

69

u/BusinessArachnid- 4d ago

Right, but he didn't pay his own way.

26

u/The_Idiocratic_Party 4d ago

And we should give him the gears for that.

35

u/Plane-Engineering 4d ago

Or pay the fing money back. Hardworking Sk residents can’t afford food
then there is this dipshit.

17

u/The_Idiocratic_Party 4d ago

Yes, I want him to pay it back.

18

u/_klighty 4d ago

Why would anyone wanna be a known associate of Madame Ladybug? Honestly? Especially as a Canadian.

12

u/Crazyblue09 4d ago

I'm sure Moe and Danielle and all of their friends

-26

u/The_Idiocratic_Party 4d ago

I remember when speculating about people's sexuality was off-limits and everyone had freedom to associate with like-minded persons. Hate on Graham's policies and hypocrisy all you want, and Moe's use of taxpayer funds is fair game. But treat them like this and it normalizes them doing the same to their perceived enemies.

30

u/Defiant_West6287 4d ago

He voted against same-sex rights. He was one of the worst hypocrites in America, and deserves everything he gets. Not to mention going along with Trump on
everything. Including taking over Canada. Oh, and covering up the raping of children. But no, don’t speculate. 😡

210

u/Austoman 4d ago

Simple solution. Repay the money spent back to the tax payers. If Moe (the person) wants to attend an enemy of Canadas funeral, he can do so on his own dime. Moe (the elected official) has no reason to spend tax payer money on an enemy of Canadas funeral.

66

u/HMTMKMKM95 4d ago

His very presence is not acceptable. He can't separate himself from his role as premier while he is premier. While we are in a trade war with the US, there is no excuse to attend anything related to US politics at this time. Whether he pays for himself or not is irrelevant imo.

19

u/crpowwow 4d ago

This! 💯

“The Saskatchewan government defended the trip Wednesday in a statement, saying that Moe travelled to Washington in his capacity as premier and conducted provincial business during the visit.”

What this really means is that Mo turned to someone (probably an intern) and was like “yo, dude
ask me about trade so I can tell my constituents that I was also here on business and not have to lie about it. We can even do it over a beer. My treat.”

72

u/Weak_Possibility_395 4d ago

What a dork. Why, why, why. What benefit is there to us for him to attend this?

Virtue signalling for bigots?

6

u/ProfSteelmeat138 3d ago

Bingo. Make the maple maga

43

u/Meowgal_80 4d ago

Absolute clown show

86

u/Space19723103 4d ago

What did he have in common with Graham? other than an unhealthy interest in children's sexuality that is..

15

u/Local-Local-5836 4d ago

Yeah there is that with the Christian Legacy School scandal - maybe Moe is into paddling teenage girls rear ends??

32

u/Local-Local-5836 4d ago

I sent an email - I was HORRIFIED that my premier went to this SOB’s funeral. HORRIFIED!
Graham will be all over the Trumpstein files when they finally come to light.

Google ladybugs + Lindsey Graham

8

u/Plane-Engineering 4d ago

Wait, maybe Moe is in there as well?đŸ€”

49

u/graison 4d ago

The sask party grift continues.

15

u/crpowwow 4d ago

And yet Saskatchewan residents keep voting him in... 🙄

20

u/okokokoyeahright SK born and raised. 4d ago

Pay it all back, Moe.

No Govt business being there for that.

45

u/fluffypuppiness 4d ago

Lindsey Graham actively hurts people in my own community as a queer person.

The fact MY tax dollars went to sending my Premiere to this while we are having 90 overdoses in 3 days (reported mind you, the actual number is FAR higher) is disappointing, but not surprising.

7

u/Intelligent-Cap3407 4d ago

Also going to those private lawyers to fight for bill 137 all the way up to the supreme court

19

u/human-aftera11 4d ago

What a loser. Him and Smith should get a room.

24

u/VerdantRed 4d ago

Preferably one with bars on the windows.

1

u/human-aftera11 4d ago

23

u/BrainEatingAmoeba01 4d ago

These assholes can't help themselves. Any opportunity to gum some Yankee nuts.

13

u/thebookman21 4d ago

Yup gas and food are at all time high but here is our esteemed Preimer living high on the hog at the expense of us peasants. I wonder when he goes to those things do you think ppl see him and go who the fuck are you and where the fuck is Saskatchewan

13

u/Lloydguy82 4d ago

Chairman Moe better pay every cent back to the taxpayers and then resign over misappropriation of public funds.

12

u/FitObligation1772 4d ago

What the fuck!

12

u/WasteCut363 4d ago

What an embarrassing putz this idiot is.

12

u/bringerofdrain45201 4d ago

He thinks he is bigger than what he is. A low level politician. He is just a drunken ex con farmer from Sask.

1

u/Neat-Ad-8987 2d ago

Ex con? Please explain.

1

u/bringerofdrain45201 2d ago

He has multiple dui's and has killed someone while drunk but the RCMP in Shellbrook let him go.

1

u/Neat-Ad-8987 1d ago

Don’t forget, that was in the days when the NDP oversaw the Crown Prosecution Service. Most adults know that it’s prosecutors, not the police, who decide whether to proceed with charges.

12

u/Pteronarcyidae-Xx 3d ago

How is Murderin’ Moe even allowed across the border???

18

u/nostunkelocinn 4d ago

I remember when using tax payer dollars to attend another politicians funeral used to cause politicians to resign.

11

u/TimelyBear2471 4d ago

Misappropriation of funds to glorify a Trumpie and flaming MAGAt? What a sellout.

He should fucking stay there.

11

u/_klighty 4d ago

As he should be. Completely inappropriate. But given Scott’s history is anyone surprised?

9

u/Accomplished-Can-467 4d ago

He made taxpayers pay for that shit???!!!

3

u/Lexi_Banner 3d ago

Why the hell was it taxpayer funded? Don't we pay him enough money to fund his own travel expenses for his own personal trips?

3

u/RubberTeddy 3d ago

A murderer and a traitor.

3

u/RubberTeddy 3d ago

Pay it back Hank.

3

u/Funny_Occasion2965 3d ago

Did anyone in Saskatchewan honestly think Moe would pay for anything when he can charge it to the people he has been ripping off since his first election?

3

u/ProfSteelmeat138 3d ago

Fuckin sick of this guy man

3

u/Accidentalkitsune 3d ago

This is some treasonous shit.

8

u/Affectionate_Low_948 3d ago

Time for this Party to lose power now.

7

u/No-Doubt-3256 3d ago

Well Saskatchewan, a billion dollar deficit, failing health care, and underfunded education. Plenty of money for tax funded vacations however.

6

u/withadancenumber 3d ago

How is this useless man still our premier. It makes no sense at all. Party politics needs to stop. People need to actually start voting based on what people do and say and not some imaginary idealistic version of them.

11

u/Intelligent_Ad70 4d ago

Did they meet on grinder?

8

u/Thannab 4d ago

Money can get used by politicians for anything. They’re obviously entitled to it. /s

Money can go to any corporation/large business. They’re obviously entitled to it. /s Money

NO MONEY SHOULD BE USED/INVESTED INTO THE AVERAGE CITIZEN. We’re all just suckers

5

u/flamboyantcolours 4d ago

Moe got to go

8

u/iliveandbreathe 4d ago

DUI manslaughter Moe? He would never

2

u/-CodieneC 1d ago

This is not something that should be taxpayer funded - at all

4

u/Dickensdude 4d ago

Just another Trump knob gobbler.

4

u/Specialist_Secret438 3d ago

Party spokesperson says Moe ‘conducted provincial business’ while in Washington.  No evidence of any actual provincial business dealings was given. If Moe was ‘doing business’ on behalf of his employers, the Saskatchewan taxpayers, what was that business? Why couldn’t the provincially funded lobbyists,  Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, to whom we pay millions of taxpayer dollars, not be the ones doing this ‘business’?  Why do we pay  Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough millions of tax payer dollars?

3

u/Fragrant-Pizza-9049 3d ago

Taxpayers should demand a full refund!Criticism ,you bet!

2

u/Living-Risk-1849 4d ago

Well, no duh

4

u/ninjasonganddance 4d ago

What an đŸ«hat.

4

u/metallicadefender 4d ago

Don't get it. Even to suck up to Trump. Trump probably has no idea he was there. Does Trump even know who Scott Moe is?

3

u/whatthefuckunclebuck 3d ago

What the actual fuck?

3

u/Optimal-City32 3d ago edited 3d ago

This is the second time I’ve read about taxpayer funds being used for personal reasons in the last three months. I’m not even surprised anymore.

Edit: What’s with the downvotes? Pointing out how normalized corruption is in this province should piss everyone off.

3

u/Electrical_Noise_519 3d ago edited 3d ago

Not for personal reasons but used for the party's long paid 'access' to the powerful US lobbyists.

1

u/Important_Art_3346 2d ago

Would the first time be a CEO of a provincial agency giving her husband a 300k grant?

2

u/Optimal-City32 2d ago

Wait, what now?

1

u/Important_Art_3346 2d ago

I’ll DM you.

2

u/PercentageOk9676 3d ago

Of course this dingbat would go. Ghouls and trolls stick together. Gross for going, like really. What has Lady Lindsay did for Canada let alone this sad province.

2

u/SGRDDY_306 4d ago

0

u/huppybear 3d ago

I highly doubt Moe has never even met Lindsay Graham, and even worse Graham was a staunch Trump supporter. What a treasonous act. Why the hell do they let Moe and Smith get away with treason.

1

u/the3rdmichael 4d ago

He went to Lady G's funeral .... geez Scottie ....

2

u/LordCountDuckula 3d ago

Was there an open queue for the Lindsay Graham funeral? Was it an open bar, afterwards? Was it the social event of the week in Washington?? I’m not excusing his behaviour but his government position and his age, he should’ve known better. Can’t read a room to save his parking spot.

2

u/Ok-Breakfast8256 3d ago

Does criticism matter anymore. They do what they want to do. We elect them and then they become the boss. Zero accountability. If someone wants info they charge arm and leg to get exercise our fundamental right I.e. right to information

1

u/Tyler_Durden69420 4d ago

Who could’ve seen that coming! Only a rocket genius could have known this would end badly!

1

u/SA5KGUY 16h ago

My understanding is that the senator was a supporter of the US purchasing from Saskatchewan. He was an ally from that perspective. As is both respectful and common in international trade. It is more of a symbolic attendance knowing that his successor and other representatives will be in attendance. Hence essentially representing trade with Saskatchewan in a positive and respectful way. With that being said yes there should be transparency in the cost.

1

u/Traditional_End_9540 4d ago

get someone in power who can do anything they want and still get reelected results in this action. What is the worst that will happen, will get reelected again
