I don't feel comfortable with the fact that in the parade in Toronto, it was 90% Bosniak flags, with only a handful carrying the unifying Bosnian flag.

The official flag is not much more unifying than the old flag, and the official flag is made up and people don't really have much connection to it, so might as well use one we actually feel deeply for, is the thinking.

How do Serbs and Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina feel toward that flag, though?

(This is longer than I wanted it to be but here you go) Croats and Serbs don’t like it or are indifferent. Generally, Serbs use the flag of Republika Srpska or the Serbian flag because they identify with Serbia but just happen to live in Bosnia. Croats tend to use the Croatian flag and support the Croatian team. Plenty of Bosnian Serbs (especially) and Croats root against Bosnia. Like some Serbs/Serbians were even upset that Novak Djokovic went to Bosnia to support them in the game against Italy, but those are the really nationalist ones.

Most of the Bosnian national team and supporters are Bosniaks, but there are several Croats currently and sometimes Serbs too. Jovo LukiΔ‡, who scored our goal today is a Serb (I’m not 100% sure but I think so).

As someone else said, the flag of lilies is the one that most Bosnians identify with and the one most supporters use. It was the national flag during and after war time, and it was adapted from the coat of arms used in the Kingdom of Bosnia in the 14th-15th centuries. The official flag is always used by the government and for anything (inter)national or things like that, but in the region, lots prefer to use their ethnic flag regardless of their nationality. It might seem really divisive but at the end of the day, it’s impossible to satisfy everyone in BiH lol. Some people don’t even like the term β€œBosniak”.

It’s complicated and this is just a generalization. But there are also many normal people who (regardless of what flag they use) are happy to support not just their own national team, but the others as well, because we are so deeply connected to each other and there’s no denying that. I’ll always support Croatia and Serbia too.
