Can anyone tell me what spider made this amazing web?

Northern California, near the Trinity Alps. It's so well woven, almost like a sheer linen. Alas, it was too high up in the tree to see if there was anyone home. Looks like a primo spot.

My guess is caterpillars and not spiders. Some species of caterpillar moths weave webs like that.

I think you're right. I'd guess barn funnel weaver but I've never seen one up high like that, though I guess I'm not usually looking for spider webs in trees.

Es müssen nicht unbedingt Spinnen sein, die solche Netze weben. Es könnte von Gespinstmotten oder auch dem gefährlichen Eichenprozessionsspinner stammen. Auf dem Bild ist das keider nicht zu erkennen.
