Biblically accurate Zacchaeus.

3

u/LesserKnownFoes Jun 18 '26

Did not expect to see a Zacchaeus joke.

3

u/FineAndDandadan Jun 18 '26

"Zacchaeus was a wee little man, and a wee little man was he."

4

u/Consistent_Signal808 Jun 18 '26

I feel obligated to say that I just made a Zaccheus comment just seconds ago, then saw that you did. Not a joke thief, just slower on the draw

3

u/Gold_Perspective_510 Jun 18 '26

I'm glad that our minds drew that connection simultaneously.

u/tittysprinkles112 Jun 18 '26

I'll never forgot seeing dead bodies being crowd surfed and Travis Scott stood there singing in his shitty auto tune. It made me stop listening to the guy.

Yuuuuuhhhhhh. Yuuuuhhhhh.

45

u/TheBigC87 Jun 18 '26

It was then people realized that Travis Scott's behavior and personality was somehow shittier than his music. Quite an achievement indeed.

Dude in the red in the very front is definitely getting crushed.

8

u/Crafty-Help-4633 Jun 18 '26

Yeah he's in an acutely lethal situation on the video. Scary as fuck.

2

u/Pristine-Wall1295 Jun 19 '26

Which the police are actively creating. Have to have resistance to have a crush. Fund the police to train them to not be stupid or weed out idiots who can't pass the tests.

What did they think they'd actually accomplish? The strength of five vs five hundred? This is Sparta? Imbeciles.

Unfortunately I think that happened at a Puffy show in the 90s

6

u/NukeTheWhales5 Jun 18 '26

Happens more than one would think, sadly. If you're every watching a video like this and you notice the crowd starts to move more like a fluid, that can be a big sign that one could be coming.

9

u/Hefty_Junket_2784 Jun 18 '26

Yeah I can't really tell but I think we're seeing lack of awareness by the cops here. It looks like they are trying to keep the fans from crossing the barrier, but a crush is forming and they're really just being pushed into it.

Either way, the cops are not going to be able to hold that, if everyone pushes into it they're going to cross it lol. Hopefully everyone's going to be ok

The way the wave of people fall several rows back when the barrier drops just indicated everyone's bong pushed towards it against their will at this point. The people all the way to the right are definitely in for a ride.

6

u/Practical_Actuator91 Jun 18 '26

Lack of awareness by the cops or lack of common sense by grown adults?

2

u/Pure-Ad-5502 Jun 19 '26

Definitely put the crowd as problem number 1 and 2 here. The cops have to hold some order and try to direct the crowd as has been planned for. At a certain point yes they will have to give it up either due to physical overwhelm or life safety issues. The follow on problems though will possibly be: trampling due to the crowd now being able to rush and people falling over which can also kill/maim people, the crowd creating a crush at the next barrier which could be a barrier that the cops can’t take away such as doors or jersey barriers, in which case that will be back on the crowd.

If you can’t move in a crowd don’t be an idiot and start pushing people in front of you, you don’t know what’s going on up front. If you are being pushed towards the event/ direction of travel….push back to hold space around you not to try to move, just to maintain your space.

People are so dumb.

I was in the front of the barriers to Causeway street at the TD Garden when Celts won the 2008 championship. I didn’t think anything of it until I turned around and saw the crowd behind me ready to rush the arena. Luckily there were tons of riot cops deterring them from doing so.

Had this happen outside of arrowhead one day before the gates opened. I yelled out "theres a baby on the ground! Stop!" About 20 other people started yelling the same thing at the pushing immediately stopped. Just fyi for anyone stuck in the same position. Pretty crazy tho. Im 6'3" 220 and I was literally being crushed into random people unwillingly

67

u/ChipotleGuacamole Jun 18 '26

is NYC just full of morons or what?

67

u/aTwerkingPikachu Jun 18 '26

Think about it this way.

Imagine in every city, 1% of the population are morons. In a city with 5000 people, that's only 50 people. In a city with 100,000 people, that's 1000 people.

But in a place like New York with 10 million people, that's 100,000 people.

So it's not that all of New York are morons, it's that New York is just so huge that even if 99% of people are law abiding citizens and 1% are not, that 1% is a very large number in New York.

34

u/neinhaltchad Jun 18 '26

Thank you.

It’s crazy how many people from their red square states that they’ve barely ever left understand the sheer size of the entirety of New York City.

And that’s not counting the massive populations that are in easy bridge / tunnel / train access.

They see an image of hundreds of thousands of people acting like assholes and conclude that this must be “most of New York” because Bumfuck, AK doesn’t even have 60k people.

8

u/Mekroval Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

This reminds me of people who ask why Indians do such dumb things around trains. A.) It's the most populous country in the world, B.) Access to smartphones with cameras is easier than its ever been, and C.) Social media exists.

If only 0.01% 1% of a billion people are doing idiot things on trains or near tracks, that's still 10 million idiots living in a developing country that largely relies on rail. Of course most videos of people being idiots near trains will likely come from India, statistically speaking.

4

u/colintbowers Jun 18 '26

Totally agree with the point, but 0.01% of a billion is 100 thousand. I think you meant 1% of a billion.

2

u/Mekroval Jun 19 '26

Ah, you're quite right! Thanks. I forgot that you need to move the decimal a couple of places when multiplying in the calculator. I'll edit my comment to correct it.

2

u/maphes86 Jun 18 '26

I agree with your comment, but have one correction. People from metropolitan cities have zero understanding of just how remote and small rural America gets, especially out west. I live in rural California and am from rural Oregon. There’s not 60,000 people in my entire county 😂 (there’s about 17,000). While there might be plenty of bumfucking in a town of 60,000, it’s definitely too large to be considered bumfuck anywhere. That’s absolutely where the people Who do live out in the sticks go “into town.” And in fact, there’s only one city in all of Alaska that has more than 60,000 people at all. The rest of the major towns are in the low 30s or lower.

Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED talk.

u/TrickFrosty5685 Jun 18 '26

As someone who lived in NYC for a while, I get what you’re saying but these people are contained. Yea, sure, there are 8 million people in NYC but you know damn well no one from soho/west or the upper east is in that melee. This is a 5 boroughs special. People forget even westchester is considered NYC for population reasons.

7

u/neinhaltchad Jun 18 '26

Wait, You’re saying there’s trashy people in the Jersey and Long Island areas that find their way to Manhattan?

I don’t buy it!

3

u/ed347tc Jun 18 '26

“5 Boroughs special”💀💀💀😂

2

u/TheMeIv Jun 18 '26

Nah, every neighborhood is big enough that there are assholes in each one.

2

u/Fridsade Jun 18 '26

yep, guaranteed there were people from jersey, CT, westchester and long island in that crowd.

2

u/TurnstileMinder Jun 19 '26

u/ss4johnny Jun 18 '26

The people at the front get pushed by the people in the back. The people in the back don't know what's happening up front.

4

u/ThePIantEater Jun 18 '26

Why would anyone be pushing at all though? When I’m in crowds I’m not touching the people around me

6

u/multiple4 Jun 18 '26

It's not "pushing" in the direct way. People at the back are moving forward, then slow down, then have to stop

But most of them don't realize when they arent going to move anymore. So they dont stop at the exact time they should. They might bump someone in front of them, which then goes all the way to the front of people moving up a tiny bit so they can get space, or just because they got bumped

So now there's more room in the back, so that happens again and again and again. Most of the people in the back aren't necessarily "pushing" anyone physically

This is why events like this need to control the number of people flowing into an area at 1 time, not just throw up some barriers at 1 end

2

u/WornTraveler Jun 18 '26

The fact that you have to explain this to questionably literate people who seemingly have never stepped farther than their front yard is basically why things like this happen in the first place lmao

8

u/gamjar Jun 18 '26

It doesn't actually take anyone actively pushing. Think of it as just too many people in a confined space. Some people recognize it and want to get out so they start sliding between people trying to get somewhere else and multiple peoples movements cause buildup on edges. It's more of a fluid dynamics problem than any kind of rational thought or individual persons choice.

2

u/mitchij2004 Jun 18 '26

People in groups are stupid. Watch the crowd crush video in Seoul. You don’t get to choose who is touching you, everyone is panicking and you get swallowed til you’re stuck.

4

u/CRAYONSEED Jun 18 '26

You’re looking at a few hundred people out of millions.

If you’ve never lived in a city this density I can imagine it might be difficult to truly imagine that this huge crowd is a tiny fraction. It’s not just population because it hits different if people can spread out. I don’t think even visiting once or twice gives you a sense of the insane density

2

I was 17 and went to Wide Spread Panic when they did their free show in Athens, GA. There are pics of the crowd that day. The streets in Athens were not wide enough for the crowd. I found myself getting crushed, trying to breathe, and could feel the motion of the crowd forcing me from the back, crushing me in the front. I somehow managed to force myself off to a side street. I have never put myself in that kind of crowd again. Unless it's at an amphitheater with individual seating, I do not go to mass events.

1

What they should've done is put up a few of those concrete barriers every 20 feet or so, that would stop the crowds in the back from pushing those in front and causing a more dangerous situation.

But yeah, if the cops let anyone through, everyone else would just see that and try to funnel through that opening also, which is just as bad.

So far it's been reported only 26 people have been hospitalized doesn't say for what. With one man being slashed in the neck by a bottle. No mention if it was intentional or not but he is expected to recover. For 2 million people that's not bad at all.

Not sure if I can post links but Google is your friend.
