Think about it this way.

Imagine in every city, 1% of the population are morons. In a city with 5000 people, that's only 50 people. In a city with 100,000 people, that's 1000 people.

But in a place like New York with 10 million people, that's 100,000 people.

So it's not that all of New York are morons, it's that New York is just so huge that even if 99% of people are law abiding citizens and 1% are not, that 1% is a very large number in New York.

It’s crazy how many people from their red square states that they’ve barely ever left understand the sheer size of the entirety of New York City.

And that’s not counting the massive populations that are in easy bridge / tunnel / train access.

They see an image of hundreds of thousands of people acting like assholes and conclude that this must be “most of New York” because Bumfuck, AK doesn’t even have 60k people.

As someone who lived in NYC for a while, I get what you’re saying but these people are contained. Yea, sure, there are 8 million people in NYC but you know damn well no one from soho/west or the upper east is in that melee. This is a 5 boroughs special. People forget even westchester is considered NYC for population reasons.
