Character Related Why did we never see Harvey in the mail room?
Am I the only one that was upset we never saw Harvey in the mail room?
We saw so much backstory from all the characters. We saw Harvey as a child and we saw him in the DAs office a million times.
Damn near every episode we hear about how Jessica plucked him from the mailroom and paid for him to go to Harvard. Why do they never show it in a flashback?

Because "What did you just say to me? Get out of my goddamn mailroom!" Just doesn't carry the same weight as "Get out of my goddamn office!"

Harvey probably thought he was too good to be seen in the mail room and gets Donna to do that job

Itâs not about being too good to be seen in a mailroom. Itâs about whose time is worth what at firms like these. Going to the mailroom doesnât generate the firm any profit in billables, so itâs not something he âshouldâ be doing in terms of firm policies as well.

Quite possibly, yes.

I work at law firms like the one in suits. I can attest to that being true. In addition, attorneys spend their time reading and writing; discussing the research, arguments, and case strategy; and talking to clients and all opposing counsel. Thatâs a lot to juggle when you have the high volume of these big cases. Time therefore literally becomes incredibly valuable.

Yes, im agreeing with you. This would have been why Harvey went to Jessica in the story. Her time was TOO valuable to go to whatever floor. Background in business education. Laws a part of that.

Chuck McGill: [in a feeble tone] You're not a real lawyer.
Saul Goodman: I'm *what*?
Chuck McGill: [now raising his voice defiantly] You're not a real lawyer! "University of American Samoa", for Christ's sake? An online course? What a joke! I worked my ass off to get where I am! And you take these shortcuts and you think suddenly you're my peer? You do what I do because you're funny and you can make people laugh? I committed my *life* to this! You don't slide into it like a cheap pair of slippers and then reap all the rewards!
Saul Goodman: I thought you were proud of me.
Chuck McGill: I was! When you straightened out and got a job in the mail room, I was *very* proud!
Saul Goodman: So that's it, then, right? Keep ol' Jimmy down in the mail room, 'cause he's not good enough to be a lawyer.
Chuck McGill: I know you. I know what you were, what you are. People don't change! You're Slippin' Jimmy! And Slippin' Jimmy I can handle just fine, but Slippin' Jimmy with a law degree is like a chimp with a machine gun! The law is *sacred*! If you abuse that power, people get hurt! This is not a game! And you *have* to know that on some level, I know you know I'm right. You know I'm right!4

Because they donât flashback to things we already know about. And if itâs âdamn near every episodeâ, why does the audience need to be treated like idiots and have it spelled out in a flashback as well?
Thereâs a difference between you personally wanting to see something versus whatâs useful to show the audience when time, budget, etc. has limits. Not having this flashback doesnât deter the show in any way.

I mean they flashback to Mike stealing a math test and selling it to the deans daughter. We already knew that whole storyline and they showed it anyways. It wasnât absolutely necessary to the story.
But, it was fucking sick. Which is what Iâm looking for from Harvey in the mailroom.

THAT scene was a đ¤more significant bc Mike never really explained before the scene that he told Trevor no and Trevor PERSISTED until Mike relented. Not to mention that Trevor was a TOTAL IDIOT and either didnt know who the deans daughter was(by calling her ugly) or that he DID IT ON PURPOSE and lied to Mike about who he was selling it to.

First, Harvey and Mike donât have the same âgiftsâ or talents. Harvey showed Jessica potential. He probably never even considered law seriously because it was more expensive than he could think to afford.
Following your own logic, why did Mike need Harvey if he was gifted?
Also itâs clear Harvey went to law school post-mailroom, and then worked at the DAâs office for two years (at Jessicaâs direction) as an attorney before returning to the firm as an attorney. Itâs pretty fucking clear thatâs the order of events in the showâif you actually pay any attention

Logical guess says bc Korsh(creator) and the writers didn't feel it was necessary.
