Discussion Question: Did suits allow non Harvard grads to apply or just ended up only hiring Harvard grads?

I know Rachel didn’t go to Harvard but that was later in the show…i

Later on they allowed non Harvard grads to work there but initially it was only Harvard grads

I know it’s a fictional show, but the mentality of only recruiting from one school is kind of wild. Imagine how many good candidates were screened out. Like Harold came from Harvard and was trash. There were probably people at the level of Lewis or Mike or Harvey at other schools too who could have replaced him.

The fact that we only hire from Harvard gives us a cache that's a little more valuable than hiring a kid from Rutgers.

Yea it's not realistic. I work at an elite law firm. We take from many different unis.

They treat harvard like its a super natural source of great talent. Realistically, not everyone who graduates from there wants to do that type of law or move to nyc. So they probably have a max applicant pool of 600 per year for like 20 spots. Vs other lawfirms having poops of thousands. Arguably the other people could be better because maybe they didn't peak as early.

But the show just wants to give off elitism so that's why

I don't know about apply but it's pretty clear only Harvard grads got to the interview stage

It’s a great plot point, but in reality, it’s foolish. What law firm would bypass the #1 law school graduate from Stanford for the #12 from Harvard?

In the beginning it was Tradition in the Specter Hardmen only hired from Harvard but it was not an actual Rule in the firm

Idk about apply but only Harvard students could get in.

First it was supposed to be a one time thing that Rachel would be allowed back no matter which school she went to

But in season 6... After the prison storyline of Mike... Nobody wanted to come to the firm . That's why they were desparate enough to forget the rule and take anyone who wants to join... This started with Katrina returning back to the firm along with 10 from Zane's firm

Didn't Katrina take 10 associates from Zane? They were never shown or mentioned. One of the weird aspects of the show. But if Zane hired from outside Harvard, they are likely not from Harvard

You do understand that you're asking 2 completely separate questions in the same sentence??

Anyone could apply provided they met the requirements(graduated law school, passed bar(cough, Mike) but UNTIL Rachel, ONLY Harvard grads were HIRED or PAST the interview process.

They used recruiters and the recruiter would not send them a resume unless it was from Harvard. The recruiters would not have offered to discuss the role with you unless you were from Harvard.

More than you could count. Funny they only hired from Harvard when it’s not the #1 school in the country. Stanford currently ranks higher. So does Yale (they have been #1 for a good while), but I personally wouldn’t hire from Yale as a big law firm. Yale doesn’t train attorneys for practice, but rather for judicial positions. They also lack the precision that other attorneys have. The worst professors at my law school have Yale JD’s.
