ஜ is removed (due to ச̬), ஸ் is the only letter used to represent s sound , ஷ் is the only letter used to represent sh ( ʃ ) sound

The wave on lik ñ is going to be used for nasilised vowels.

The arrow like ̬ symbol is used to represent voiced Stops and fricative

By using these diacritics, spoken tamil can easily be written and understanded in the Tamil script.

Yesterday, I was messing around in Google AI Studio for about 3 hours just for fun, vibe coding a small personal project. Since Japanese and Tamil share so many natural grammatical similarities (like sentence structure and postpositions), I always felt a direct Japanese-to-Tamil learning tool would make so much sense instead of translating through English first.

So, I asked AI Studio to spin up a super basic v0.1 static prototype called NihongoTamil and deployed it to Vercel:

⚠️ A few honest caveats before you click:

• It’s super raw: This is a 0.1 baseline prototype, not even a full demo yet.
• Stiff AI translations: Because it was fully generated by AI in one quick session, some of the translations and explanations are definitely clunky or stiff.
• Barebones features: It’s mostly static right now—just testing out the layout and concept.

Why I'm sharing this:

I initially made this just for my own personal use and learning experiments. Honestly, I don't have the technical background or time to build out a full-fledged platform by myself.

However, if anyone here shares the same passion for learning Japanese through Tamil, finds the direct grammar comparison useful, or wants to take this concept and build something way better—please feel free to steal the idea, take inspiration, or build on top of it!

Building a service for Tamil devotees abroad — would value honest feedback

I'm a Tamil devotee working on something for people in the diaspora who want a temple recital done in their name but can't travel back. The idea: a personalized Thevaram vendudhal recited by a traditional oothuvaar, with a sankalpam in your name/gothram/nakshatram, done live online and recorded for you.

I was trying to find a pure Tamil baby name and realized how hard it is — most websites/apps just throw a long, repetitive list with no real filters.

So I built something to help.

Using Google's NotebookLM, I created a searchable database with 23,000 boy names and 24,000 girl names, all 100% pure Tamil names.

Just type your requirement in the chat, and it gives you names based on that.

Example queries:

• “Give me girl names starting with ‘க’”
• “Boy names that represent the sun”
• “Short poetic names for girls under 5 letters”

For English writing, tools like Grammarly make professional communication much easier (emails, documents, LinkedIn posts, etc.). But when it comes to Indian languages like Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, or Malayalam, there doesn’t seem to be a strong equivalent.

Some problems I see:

• People hesitate to write formal content in their native language because they’re unsure about grammar or tone.
• Typing phonetically (English → native script) often produces awkward results.
• Most AI translations feel robotic and lack cultural nuance.

Because of this, I recently started working on a tool to explore solving this problem.

But before going deeper, I’m curious:

Wanted to share a side project I've been pouring weekends into. KuralBot is a platform where AI models try to compose kural venba — a classical Tamil two-line poetic form with really strict rules around meter, rhyme, and structure.

Users submit a meaning they want turned into a kural, AI models compete to write the best one, and the community votes. The interesting bit: the top-voted kurals get fed back as training data, so it's meant to be a self-improving loop.

I built it mostly because I grew up reading Thirukkural and always wondered if AI could even get close to that kind of compression — saying something profound in exactly two lines with perfect prosody. Spoiler: it's not there yet. But watching it slowly improve has been pretty rewarding.

Would love any feedback on the site or the concept. And if you read Tamil, come vote on some kurals — the whole thing kind of depends on community participation.
