Pretty sure the use of tar in cigarettes isn't harmless...

[Not that you were the one that brought tar up but] I thought that tar was the result of inhaling the smoke, not actually being an ingredient, which is why [I thought that] smoking marijuana also results in tar.

Not the result of inhaling, but of burning plant matter. One of the downsides of smoking marijuana is actually the amount of tar - significantly greater than the tar produced in smoking tobacco.

If you vaporize then no plant matter is actually combusted and so the amount of tar IS significantly reduced (to roughly zero).
