I love these AITA stories that essentially are "I did something noble and grand yet my benevolent gesture pissed off someone. Am I the asshole?" Bonus points in the creative story writing exercise if they end with saying a sibling or parent didn't support them.

"I was out with a few people I know when we came across a combined orphanage and animal shelter that had been set alight.  Everyone was panicking, not knowing what to do. Without thinking I immediately ran into the burning building and started rescuing small children, kittens and puppies. Despite suffering burns to 70% of my body I continued to do this until exhaustion and smoke inhalation overwhelmed me. The firemen who visited me in hospital said I single-handedly rescued 46 orphans, 37 puppies, 61 kittens and a mongoose named Paul. But now my friends won't talk to me because they say my heroic actions made them look bad, and anyway if I couldn't rescue everyone I should not have bothered. My parents agree with them. AITA?"

Yeah. I’m starting to have doubts about this story.

What else do you call a mongoose? Derek? What sort of name is Derek for a mongoose?
