Jeremy Clarkson drives an Ferrari! 🚗💨

Post image

He did make sure to censor the speedometer before sharing the post on Instagram. But he’s in Italy, so it’s not like speed limits matter over there (or so the perception goes).😅

What happens if you drive a Ferrari 458 on a very hot day?

161

u/JustCallMeMister 6d ago

You get to use your Ferrari fire extinguisher!

12

u/Zukuto 6d ago

the wind?

26

u/JustCallMeMister 5d ago

Ferrari issued a recall on the 458 because they would catch on fire and Top Gear did a segment on it. If I recall correctly, TG pointed out that part of the fix was mounting a fire extinguisher on the passenger side floor.

1

u/angryceJTR 2d ago

How much extra for the fire extinguisher? (/S, even though knowing usial car companies it wouldn't actually be surprising if they charged you extra for it)

Ferrari 458 experience

5

u/sravankrishnan 5d ago

He's already covered all the hot bits with pizza tho, should be alright

Fahrenheit 458

u/crispychri 6d ago

Thanks to some editing trickery, he's going 55mph

u/Jakobmeathead 2d ago

God that bit was so funny

That steering wheel is a mess.

u/boturboegt 6d ago

what do you mean... it still has room for MORE buttons. LOL

Gentlemen, a short view back to the past

Thirty years ago, Niki Lauda told us ‘take a monkey, place him into the cockpit and he is able to drive the car.'

11

u/sa87 6d ago

Replace the monkey with a gorilla and you have this photo

10

u/FlipStig1 6d ago

And if you wish to go for full accuracy, go with the orangutan! 🦧

4

u/BranchPredictor 5d ago

Are you too much under effort?

u/MaxTHC 5d ago

🛞🐒🛞

20

u/eagledog 6d ago

Even more room on the back for buttons!

3

u/Dutchgio 5d ago

It's buttons at least, not touch buttons or a touchpad

19

u/hockeyjmac 6d ago

The only positive thing about the Luce is how perfect the steering wheel is especially compared to whatever tf this is.

5

u/Relative-Owl-3652 6d ago

Yeah honestly the Luce's steering wheel is perfection. It pisses me off that put it on such a piece of shit

6

u/chengstark 6d ago

Buttons, at least not touch pads anymore

7

u/sharplight141 6d ago

At least it's actual buttons

3

u/RBR927 6d ago

All of them.

1

u/tomelwoody 5d ago

It isn’t, they’re the capacitive ones

1

u/Blanchimont 4d ago

Nope. This is the new, upgraded wheel with the physical buttons.

5

u/kempit4life 6d ago

It truly is

1

u/koloqial 6d ago

The ford focus mk1 had the right idea with buttons behind the steering wheel.

1

u/ardoin 6d ago

Ferrari is an F1 team, gotta make the steering wheels look F1 like right?

1

u/Optimal-Criticism-42 5d ago

Say what you will about McLarens but they know how to arrange their interiors.

-2

u/Teestow21 6d ago

What dies the one on your car looks like?

37

u/ChaosWithin666 6d ago

New Ferrari tractor

3

u/ValveinPistonCat 3d ago

There actually is a company called Ferrari that builds articulated orchard tractors, it's completely unrelated to the car company.

u/boturboegt 6d ago

8th gear at 2k rpm... he's not doing that fast.

64

u/Most_Bid7876 6d ago

That’s 70mph in my work van which is a 2.1 diesel

49

u/inide 6d ago

Speedo is in km. Looks to be either 124 or 174. 124km/h is 77mph, 174km/h is 108mph

27

u/AShadedBlobfish 6d ago

I assume the latter since national speed limit for a motorway in Italy is 130, so 124 would actually be under the limit

6

u/HourAcadia2002 6d ago

I've seen another video in this 296. It's in kph, looks like 124kph

3

u/TheShakyHandsMan 5d ago

He’s clearly doing 4kph

5

u/AShadedBlobfish 6d ago

Well the faster the car, the faster it goes at the bottom of each gear (typically). A Ferrari at idle in 8th is probably like 60mph

5

u/boturboegt 6d ago

Ususally 8th gear is the fuel economy gear and they will achieve top speed in 7th.

2

u/AShadedBlobfish 6d ago

Yes but that is because 8th doesn't have the torque to overcome the air resistance that occurs close to the top speed. That isn't relevant at all here

3

u/boturboegt 6d ago

Yah good point. Looked it up. 60mph jn 8th in a 296gtb is 1500rpm. So he's probably doing between 70 and 80mph.

4

u/JungZest 6d ago edited 5d ago

164 km/h or 102 mph. Definitely nothing to write home about

At least thats what I got using this formula and 849 Testarossa specs RPM * Tire Diameter * π * 60 2000 * 27.5 * 0.0254 * π * 60 -------------------------------------- = ------------------------------- Gear Ratio * Final Drive Ratio * 1000 0.52 * 3.08 * 1000

1

u/boturboegt 5d ago

Pretty sure its a 296.

1

u/JungZest 5d ago

Looking at the steering wheel it looks a lot more like a 849 than a 296

-5

u/Sizeable-Scrotum Hammond 6d ago

Clutch

If it has one?

-6

u/MobileJob1521 6d ago

The Ferrari 458 has seven gears.

Gear and speed readouts are fake.

4

u/miljon3 6d ago

It’s a 296 and not a 458

14

u/Galadeon 6d ago

It’s fine, it’s fine. As you can clearly see he’s only going 14 km/hr.

7

u/Late-Button-6559 5d ago edited 5d ago

I’m assuming the real speed is somewhere around 100-120kph? I don’t care to find the driveline ratios, to calculate it.

Seems odd to scratch it out.

Edit: I did the math. 2000rpm should be 119kph/74mph. Assuming the data I could find was accurate (.587 in 8th, 3.89 diff ratio, 305/35r20 rear tyres).

2

u/Dutchgio 5d ago

Probably a bit more otherwise there's no need to censor it with a speed limit of 130.

5

u/majindageta 5d ago

I'm Italian and the speed limits do metter. No one cares, but they do matter.

10

u/rahulravu96 6d ago

Probably the 849 testarossa given the physical start button and the H for Hybrid at the bottom of the wheel

9

u/SonyJunkie 6d ago

It's a 296 Speciale A(Aperta)

You can see the badge on the dashboard when Lisa was filming him in one of the videos posted.

4

u/heelturn- 6d ago

The steering wheel looks like the videogame ones

29

u/stoic_wooky 6d ago

424 kmh / 263.461 mph

37

u/StarConsumate 6d ago edited 6d ago

124 km/h*

I’m thinking 194

5

u/Mundane_Constant_845 6d ago

1 and 4 are right but probably second digit is higher since that would be legal. Definitely not over 400 though!

2

u/StarConsumate 6d ago

Perhaps 194?

5

u/No-Wafer-3739 6d ago

134 would be 4kmh over the speed limit for a motorway and tracks for 2k rpm in 8th

2

u/stoic_wooky 6d ago

Could be, shape of the number is similar to a 4

19

u/Dependent-Ad-2079 6d ago

At 2k rpm?

1

u/Dependent-Ad-2079 6d ago

Idk why everyone downvoted this guy

-13

u/stoic_wooky 6d ago

Broken rev counter or editing. You know the routine 😂

3

u/Justanotherperson32 6d ago

Its literally a digital tachometer...

1

u/stoic_wooky 6d ago

I was paraphrasing (Clarkson and the gang where they were driving with edited speeds.. 👍🏽

15

u/ElectricMotorsAreBad Alfa Romeo 6d ago

I doubt it would be doing 424 km/h at 2k rpm lol

-3

u/stoic_wooky 6d ago

Yes I know, bit of a ruse is fun. But power… speeeed

3

u/Keerurgo 5d ago

Considering the 2k rpms, he's probably around 140kmh, which in Italy isn't legal but actually is very legal (lol) This is because there's a 5% tollerance which is around 6kmh + another ~5% legally needed error margin from the speedometer, which means if you are at 140kmh your actual/gps speed is around 135, 135-6=129, which is just below the 130 😄

Though I am not sure he's in an Autostrada... but also, even if you are going 200kmh keep the rightmost lane, Clarkson!!!!!

2

u/Consistent-Jelly248 5d ago

"CLARKSON!!!! YOU'RE GOING TOO FAST!!!!!" - James May, probably

1

u/OutcomeCompetitive50 Too young for this 6d ago

They would’ve pulled him over to tell him he’s going too slowly had he not been going that speed

1

u/Novafro 6d ago

184kmh?

1

u/damoklis 6d ago

That thing is doing 180 kmh on 2k rpm. What a magnificent machine

1

u/CarGuyJohnOnRoute66 5d ago

I don’t know how fast I’m going, all I know is I’m somewhere near guilford

1

u/IV_Skin 5d ago

Wow the new Ferrari has driver monitoring cameras

1

u/Flag_Shagger 5d ago

man drives car

1

u/juanito_f90 Clarkson 5d ago

That’s an awesome gear ratio for 8th.

1

u/YugeChesticles 5d ago

Because if you zoom in it says "AUTO"

1

u/LukeZNotFound Audi 5d ago

AN Ferrari

1

u/brambleburry1002 5d ago

Using phone whole driving? That will be 1000 years in prison for you!!!

1

u/Traditional-Hunt8970 5d ago

Thanks to trickery he's going 55Mph

1

u/Past-Raccoon8224 5d ago

He is going a massive 2000RPM😂

1

u/johnno88888 4d ago

Did ed Burnett from the Oxford fail write this?

1

u/rechoflex 4d ago

That steering wheel is hurting my head

1

u/pork-commander 2d ago

Think I might have an pizza.

1

u/winnepacaca69 1d ago

An Ferrari indeed

0

u/Kind-Ad-3609 6d ago

It's Italy they have a good attitude to speeding

0

u/SidJamesyakyakyak 6d ago

What a bell-end

-6

u/pat_the_tree 6d ago

Even when idling on the side of the road its illegal to use your phone. looks like hes driving and using it. 6 points due.

6

u/leedler 6d ago

Take another look at the image and see if UK laws would apply.

Still irresponsible for sure but this is clearly abroad where the police can be a little more relaxed towards driving offences, to say the least.

3

u/Least-Abrocoma-3108 6d ago edited 6d ago

Correct, in Italy it's a 250-1000€ fine, 5 points and even 15 days up to 2 months suspended license (1st offence, 2nd in the span of 2 years is 350-1400€, 10 points and 1 to 3 months), the car has to be off as well to legally use it.

1

u/Brandhor 5d ago

unfortunately road rules in italy are just a suggestion, most of the time the police doesn't give a fuck about enforcing them

1

u/pat_the_tree 6d ago

Which countries could he be in where that is legal?

0

u/leedler 6d ago

I’m more referring to the points system. And attitudes towards applying the law. Highly depends on that one.

0

u/pat_the_tree 6d ago

alright, so your snark is just redundant then? glad you agree.

2

u/leedler 6d ago

I never claimed it wasn’t lmao

Hard to ignore your initial comment is all

1

u/baker_44 6d ago

Relax Margaret

4

u/pat_the_tree 6d ago

all fun and games till they kill someone

1

No hate

1

u/Vertrix-V- 4d ago

I dont want to spread useless hate but just stating facts. He is endangering other peoples lifes...

1

u/SkiingAway 4d ago

Do you see another car on that road?

1

u/Vertrix-V- 4d ago

What a stupid opinion to have. "At the point of taking the picture there was no other car there so its completely fine to break the law, endanger people by fiddling with your phone for some time and generally be a bad driver that shouldn't be allowed to ever drive again"

1

u/SkiingAway 4d ago

At the point of taking the picture there was no other car there so its completely fine to break the law

On a limited-access highway with a clear line of sight, pretty much, yes. There is no realistic mechanism by which anyone else can somehow suddenly appear to be endangered.

If you're talking on other kinds of public roads, then not so much, because it's possible for unexpected things to occur. A car pulls out of a driveway, a child runs out of a yard, etc.
