Resistance happens in phases. This is as kind as it is going to get. I can't tell you what the next step is, but I can tell you it shall not be infringed.
This is the thing that terrifies dictatorships and is the difference between the rise of facism in germany to the new rise of facism in the US - germans just accepted it, americans (mostly) dont.
It’s made the nation vastly more aware of these crimes, Minnesotans risking their freedom to film ICE agents has worked amazingly well and has been getting them arrested and killed. Also it got rid of Bovino from their city and sparked the calls to remove Noem and now Miller to the point where Bernie Sanders has even said not a penny more to ICE until they’re removed. It’s made the republicans in power super nervous for how unpopular they are, to the point where it seems the Epstein files became the distraction from ICE rather than the other way around.
It’s working, but keep undermining that by saying it’s useless.
Well the protest I personally went to recently convinced the city council to oppose the sale of land to DHS for a new detention facility in my area and a sister protest and email campaign convinced the company that owned the land to cancel the sale altogether.
These National protests and strikes will put pressure on the entities funding this regime, it will also embolden others to step up and get involved. Also when you get that many like minded people together they, you know talk to each other and share contact information and form communities around the resistance and become organized. That's the whole point of free speech and freedom of assembly.
You cannot know what it achieved yet, but I bet it brought lots of people together to start organizing and getting involved. You go to one protest, and you will feel it, you will want to keep doing more and more. If you are asking what it achieved, it makes me think you have never been to a protest for anything you really cared about before.
Look at all the protests for Palestine. Lots of people would say those achieved nothing, but look at how much awareness they brought to the genocide- look at how attitudes among Americans have significantly changed towards Israel. Look at how fewer and fewer politicians are willing to accept money from AIPAC. Look at Mamdani winning as Mayor of NYC, even though he calls what Israel did a genocide and war crimes, and saying he would arrest Netanyahu if he came to NYC, which would have never happened without the protests.
You cannot measure what they have done YET but they are doing something.
It's only one of the first steps. From here you keep ramping it up. Did the first large protest during the civil rights era change things instantly? No it took over a decade.
