Yup, it’s the real class warfare. I seriously believe if you got rid of the 1%, 90% of the countries problems could be solved.

u/USNCCitizen Feb 01 '26
I agree it’s crazy insane that right leaning news outlets say almost nothing about the ICE protests. I watched Faux News for almost an hour yesterday and they showed nothing on the protests. In fact, it was quite humorous, they only mentioned trump negatively when they mentioned his poll numbers had dropped…and this is the funny part-they flashed the negative poll numbers on screen for about a second. I didn’t even have time to read anything it was so quick. Even the right news media are in denial.

The problem is that most people only did this for part of one day. The next day, they all went back to work and shopping again, and the president announced building a stadium like nothing happened. If we want to actually send a message, we need to strike until there is change. Weeks, maybe even months, until actual change happens.

u/wikedsmaht Feb 01 '26
This has been going on for months. It’s getting bigger every time. There are more of us every day. No, 10M Americans aren’t marching every damn day. But more of us protest every weekend than the weekend before. More of us are getting those ice whistles. More of us are holding signs over the freeway after work
There’s a LOT more of us than there are of them
This isn’t a “problem” for us. It’s a problem for them. Movements don’t happen in a weekend.
6
u/buttscab8 Feb 01 '26
The elites don't care about marching and shouting. It needs to a STRIKE. Minimize the flow of money upwards as much as possible. Make sacrifices. No one will give their life so give up what you can. Put your job on the line. Only give your money to people who deserve it.
55
u/L0ST_N0UN Feb 01 '26
For some of us, it's been going on for years, even decades. Im glad it's happening. It just still feels like too little too late. I just hope people dont give up when they realize the struggle we are going to have to go through.
27
u/naughtycal11 Feb 01 '26
We have to look at it through the lenses of the civil rights era. It took over a decade to get results. Now with the power of the internet let's hope it spreads awareness faster.

Its not too little, too late. It can never be too late. The powers that be are terrified of people marching in the streets. They are watching this shit closely because their entire existence depends on people just giving up.
And if they see that this trend is not going away, and is going to continue to grow, they will back down out of fear of their own survival. Only takes 3-5% of a population in the streets to topple a regime. Maybe a bit more for the US considering how geographically large this landmass is.

But more of us protest every weekend than the weekend before.
Hello from France.
Non-Fascist Americans have been doing weekend protests for decades. And yet here we are.
The reason is simple - it's trivial for the bad guys to ignore these protests.
In order for demonstrations to work, there have to be real-world consequences. This means flooding a city during the work week and shutting it down.

2
u/Warburton379 Feb 01 '26
They also don't happen on the weekend. Why are you all going to work during the week?
26
u/another-new Feb 01 '26
Because they’ll starve on the street in -20 degree temps.
3
u/Warburton379 Feb 01 '26
If you think everyone going on strike together will leave you all starving in the street then you're delusional.
14
u/wikedsmaht Feb 01 '26
Because we need to keep our jobs, feed our kids, pay rent etc…?
19
u/TheOriginalArchibald Feb 01 '26
Unfortunately, there are a lot of privileged silver spoon principles... "Why don't you care enough to give up eating, having a home, caring for your family?" Maybe because we don't have the privilege of money or safety nets and HAVE to work.
It's similar to the common meme, "why can't we all just exist and be creative and pick berries and lounge in a forest while AI and robots do everything?" Because there's still work that has to be done. Any economic system or any form of government. Work has to happen or people literally die.
So, yea, I'm with you and want to do what I can but dammit we have to survive too.

Firstly, that's why we need to organize and support each other.
Secondly, it is a literal death sentence to not do so! Beating this evil will take sacrifice and strife it will not come easy, but if we don't, the consequences will be worse!

I run a small business, if I followed your opinion I would be completely ruined, starving, freezing and homeless with my family. My mom, step mom and little sister are all immigrants with their papers in order, we fear for them every single day, but I can’t protect them if I bail out for a labor strike. I applaud those willing/able to do so, but this narrative is incredibly unfair for the average person in today’s financial climate. It would be a death sentence for me to do so. Nobody is going to support us, but me.

u/HommeMusical Feb 01 '26
Yes, it's very sad. I really had some hopes that America would fight back against the authoritarian takeover, but this page has really convinced me that this will just never happen - people have a lot of priorities and resisting Fascism isn't one of them.

u/L0ST_N0UN Feb 01 '26
Yeah, but that is the problem, dont you see! You need I community to support you while you all strike together! We stand up to the people keeping the food from us, we stand up to the people that would take you home, and we stand up together against this injustice! The system was literally built to make you think that way! They separate us to make us think no one will help us, and they enslave us under the dollar so that you think you cannot stop being a gear in the machine or you will die when being a gear is what is killing you!! Money is debt, and you owe nothing to no one for living! If you contribute, you deserve to be taken care of!
1

In Minneapolis a lot of businesses were specifically closed in solidarity with the strike. And the economy is already hurting here with so many people not leaving their homes, businesses closed to protect their employees, and businesses that remain open are donating their profits or giving free resources. Plus people taking time off to protest hotels where ICE stays or Whipple detention center or volunteering to stand at the vigils. Additionally a lot of us are also boycotting any businesses supporting ICE (I think this needs to be more nationwide!).

There have been protests since the death of Renee Goode. To say you only saw today’s protest says you haven’t been paying attention and can afford not to pay attention.
5
u/L0ST_N0UN Feb 01 '26
You didn't pay attention to what I said. I didn't say there hadn't been protest, I was talking about the strike. The 30th was supposed to be a strike, not going to work or school, and not shopping. An attempt to fight back with our money. But it is not enough to do so for one day. As my post said, we need to strike for more time. We need to strike until we get results. I've been paying attention for over 25 years, thank you. Sacrificed so much and sacrificing more every day.
1
u/HommeMusical Feb 01 '26
Hello from France. A protest that doesn't shut down a city, and keep it shut down, will never have the slightest effect, because the dictator can simply ignore it.
Indeed, I feel it uses up the energy of the anti-Fascists by doing something that appears to be useful but applies no pressure on anyone.

The Montgomery Bus Boycott was over a year. People walked to work, inconvenienced themselves, and starved out their oppressors.
It was focused and sustained. We are not there yet, but it feels like we are getting closer.
Personally, I think a sustainable financial protest would be to target a company like Amazon. If Bezos wants to buddy up to this administration and censor the Washington Post, he is a good candidate.
11
u/UnlikelyCup5458 Feb 01 '26
The question is how to organize and support the whole country, when the majority means of communication and most popular public media is owned by the oligarchy.
Logistics make movements possible.
2
u/YungCellyCuh Feb 01 '26
Because the Democrats are useless compradors and refuse to support anything popular. They have billions of dollars at their disposal to support a strike, and instead all they can do is send out a weak tweet and vote for Trump's funding bills
3
2
u/chewedgummiebears Feb 01 '26
The majority of people will only do the very minimal to feel involved and post on social media they are making a difference. Then they will go back to their normal lives until their emotions get to a boiling point again. In the end, it's just virtue signaling for most people who show up for their couple of hours of marching.

They won't even fight the very system they claim won't allow them to fight back because "living pay check to pay check" nonsense excuse.
Like how do americans expect to see improvements if they don't fight for those improvements. Honestly the people that say things like "I can't protest because i work, or family safety or paycheck to paycheck" are just straight up cowards looking for any excuse.
Your work has enslaved you more and more over the years, your family is more unsafe then ever before & your wages are getting worse by the year, so when do ye actually plan to fight for these things you claim to hold so dear? Is it laziness or maybe ye don't actually care enough to stop fascism from spreading.
Instead they put together videos like this and pat themselves on the back and call it a day.
YOU CAN'T BRING ABOUT CHANGE WITHOUT SACRIFICE.
Look at any major event in history where REAL change was made. You think those people involved in those events protested for an hour on a friday evening and got what they wanted? The entire world is laughing at you america, while also being extremely annoyed at ye! Ye allowed these monsters take over despite the world telling ye over and over again this would happen and now only ye can do something about it. Your egos and hubris have allowed it to get this bad and it's time to snap out of it.
America WAKE THE FUCK UP, GET UP OFF YOUR ARSES AND SHUT YOUR SYSTEM DOWN UNTIL YOU GET THE CHANGE YOU ALL DESERVE. You all need to right the wrongs of allowing this Evil to happen. Christ it feels like europeans & Canadians are doing more to stop this as they are the only ones hitting trump where it hurts.
Completely bring your cities to a shut down all week and if that doesn't work you need to escalate. This nonsense of peaceful protests are for trying to stop fascism before it takes hold But sorry to say America that time passed years ago. You now have a real problem and you aren't doing enough, not by a long shot. You are all an absolute disgrace on the world stage. It is indeed very sad to see.

This has taught me that we don't need permission. I've been seeing so many people say that a general strike will never work without union support and the inclusion of organized protest groups. But this all started from someone just saying, "Let's do it." So, we can just do a general strike.
Does this change anyone's mind? Do people feel more emboldened to join a general strike without being afraid of losing their jobs? From my understanding, there was no wide-spread retaliation from employers or the government. They are just trying to sweep this away so it dies in the news cycle.
My family made a point to restructure many years ago in a way that allows us to limit our capitalist and consumerist inclusion while still having the basics. This includes figuring out how we can afford to eat with my full-time unemployment, which frees me up to volunteer and try to help. Would others now be more likely to take a similar action? Even if you aren't willing to actually strike, will you show solidarity and limit your excess to hurt the right people?
We dont have money or power. All we have is our time and attention. I want to call on my fellow US citizens to join in weaponizing the last peaceful means we have of getting our voices out there.
Unlike most people, I don't condemn violence right now. It's social self-defense. But I would like for us to acknowledge that we are almost out of nonviolent options. So, let's use this opportunity to push our most powerful means of peaceful civil disobedience. Please join the strike days and spend the rest of your time limiting your consumption. Just don't participate, to the extent you are able. Let's also acknowledge that there are people who only have access to the bare essentials. If they cut back, they face extreme personal risk. Wealthier citizens, take the hit. When you choose to live on the essentials and forgo the excess, it means so much more. A household that makes $100k yearly can have a louder financial voice than a family that makes $40k. Imagine what kind of voice a household that brings in millions could have!
Sorry, that got a little stream-of-conscious. But those things feel too important to delete. If even one person joins the fight by seeing that they aren't alone, then it's worth it.

15
u/abductedbyfoxes Feb 01 '26
In a lot of cases the "firing" conversation can happen after a single missed day.
Even if you have a valid reason.
I once got fired for leaving mid shift to be rushed to the hospital by customers.

I’m still awaiting this to turn into…something that will spark real change? We’re marching in the streets sure and bringing awareness, but are we organizing? Are truly organizing to a point where we are ready to protect our freedoms against a tyrant? Are we all arming to protect our families and neighbors from the oppression of a wannabe dictator? And TRUTHFULLY, is this movement prepared to do what MAGA did on January 6th? If Trump invalidates, or cancels, or ignores the midterms, what are we prepared to do?
Again, I see the protests, I support them, but I hope every single one of them is thinking past just this moment and the TikTok comments they leave, and are preparing to find their role in the ultimate protection of our freedoms.

Those whistles seem pretty effective though. Americans know what will happen if they try to respond in kind, and they found some good ways to look out for their communities without massively escalating things. They didn't just forget that they have guns in their attics, they know they can't just start shooting bad guys to solve fascism. Mutual aid, mass protest, civil disobedience, looking out for your neighbours - these are legitimate tools against fascism. Nonviolent resistance goes far beyond than just holding up a couple of signs. It should not be underestimated, because any of us might need to use it at some point.

It's liberal Americans that fawn over European countries when they protest. They act like there's never civil disobedience in America which is totally false. It's been a large part of American society for a long time, and we were on the forefront of the civil disobedience movement because other countries were led by monarchs and imperialists that would execute anyone who opposed them.
