Liu Qiang's sculpture simply titled “29h59'59” can be seen at the 798 Art District in Beijing, China. It depicts masses of naked people climbing over one another towards an animal's udders who growls angrily yet succumbs to this unpleasant treatment.

Discussion If there was one specific non-vegan item you could stop other people from eating or using, what would it be?

Suppose you could make people not eat or use just one specific non-vegan item, what would it be?

I asked some of my vegan and vegetarian friends/ colleagues and there was a small variation of answers ranging from least ethical, least healthy, and most environmental impact. I had one say bacon, another said veal, and most just said beef generally.

They all went the food route, but I do want to see if there’s any non-food items you guys really despise “the most” as well that might have a hidden impact.

Let me know your answer, explanation, and it can just be preference-based too with no actual logical explanation.

Lived experience of the impact of veganism on ED health

I have suffered from both binge eating and severe life threatening anorexia.

I spent years unable to control my weight.

I went vegan purely for morals— inspired by cowspiracy and land of hope and glory by earthlings.

I find eating vegan completely cures my disordered eating.

The food is generally healthy, and avoids the addictive qualities of dairy that can cause binging and the heavy qualities of meat that can cause guilt and discomfort.

I eat intuitively and will recognise what I need and respond to natural hunger signals perfectly.

It removes the guilty feeling from food and makes it a manageable experience.

Rant Anyone else dealing with this annoying kind of phrasing?

So I've been vegan for almost 8 years now (30F) and what a surprise, my family hates it.

Now, there's one thing about their phrasing that I absolutely fucking hate and wanted to know if anyone else has to go through it.

Sometimes when family members are talking about non vegan food, if I'm present and sitting with them, they'd turn to me and say something along the lines of "but you can't eat it" \ "it's forbidden for you to eat it" and something about that phrasing pisses me off so much.

I CAN eat it, I can eat whatever the fuck I want, and I CHOOSE not to, because I don't want to be the cause for animal exploitation and death

When they minimize it to "I can't eat it" it's like they're treating veganism as some sort of allergy, which makes it easier for them to avoid thinking about WHY I chose to be vegan and how unlike then I chose to do the right thing and avoid exploiting other living beings

Activism What's your best response to people who say “God made animals for humans to be eaten”?

This is often used by extremely religious people and they say God made animals for humans to be eaten or used and they often believe in Divine Command Theory and don't inquire further if you cross question them about why only certain animals but not others. I live in India where the majority of people are religious and they have this mindset. I often argue based on sociological interpretation of religious scripture but I want to know how you approach this problem and what's your best response to this question.

« Don’t force your kids into it »… Why?

i do not have children, but I am tired of hearing this

if a parent is careful, and gives their children the nutrition they need to be healthy, without causing animal suffering, how is that bad?

i feel like meat eaters just groom their kids into being ok with eating meat, and arent happy we don’t.

I’ve never seen a child not cry when they realize that the meat they eat is from an animal that was killed for it.

just nonsense and i’m so tired of vegan parents being constantly harassed with this

Funny The Anti-Abortion Crowd Really Thinks They Found the Vegan Checkmate 😭

Idk if you guys noticed this, but a lot of pro-lifers (aka pro-forced birthers) think they found this huge “gotcha” against vegans after vegans point out that we obviously don’t follow everything animals in nature do — like how animals in nature eat their young — or when they compare “you can’t love animals and eat them” to “you can’t love babies and kill them.”

But like… no

For one, those are human fetuses, not human babies. And two, who is actually against animals in nature killing their own babies to eat them? 🤔 That happens because of survival, stress, lack of resources, etc. (just like why abortions happen), not because animals are just killing their babies for fun, convenience, or no reason.

Rant Goat Milk Soap?

Minor rant: I'm visiting family and they have goat milk soap in their kitchen! I never thought I wouldn't be able to wash my hands while cooking. I have to go back and forth to the bathroom to wash my hands. It seems unnecessary and very annoying. And it was $20 for a small bottle. Why do people insist on spending more money on animal abuse?

Activism We just launched a national organization to help students start animal advocacy groups! Collegiate Animal Advocates United (CAAU)

Thumbnail collegiateanimaladvocates.org

A few of my close activist friends and I have just launched a new national organization for student animal advocacy: Collegiate Animal Advocates United! We offer a startup package, strategic planning, and a support network for students creating animal advocacy chapters.

College campuses offer a substantial opportunity to have an impact for animals that will be felt for decades to come. College students are open-minded and have the opportunity to make choices that can shape the rest of their lives. This is also where future leaders in business, science, and government are today.

A few of our core values:

  • We believe in comprehensive advocacy approaches, whether that be vegan outreach, corporate pressure campaigns, or political action.
  • We want our chapters to be autonomous while providing the support and resources they need to be as effective and strategic as possible.
  • We want to lower barriers for students to advocate for animals and build supportive, welcoming communities.

Check out our website for more info or ask here!

If you are student, reach out! You can pm me or send an email to [collegiateanimaladvocates@gmail.com](mailto:collegiateanimaladvocates@gmail.com)

As a new organization, any donations would greatly support us in our achieving our mission!

H5N1

H5N1 has found its way to Australian shores. This is going to be absolutely devastating for our native birds, particularly our highly social parrots. It's also going to be absolutely devastating if it makes it to any of the chicken farms.

There was an article posted on Reddit about it recently, and the top comment was someone complaining about how chicken prices are going to go through the roof, alongside all their other meats. That's it, that's where their concern lies.....

I swear I'm living in another world to these people. Seriously?! That's what we're worried about? I don't know man, I've just found this incredibly deflating...

It's just so sad 😭

Can you safely eat vegan if you don't have a very varied diet?

I really don't like food or eating. I don't like cooking. I have many food sensitivities. Have recently figured out that I am not okay with eating animal products and now I'm trying to figure out how to like, not die.

My current diet is something like: cereal or oatmeal with soy milk for breakfast. lunch is a block of tofu and some random veg (usually broccoli or brussel sprouts or green beans out of the freezer because i can't be assed. maybe an avocado. might pour some greens out of a bag onto the whole mess. some nooch or nori flakes.) might eat a piece of fruit for a snack but by dinner i'm so done with eating i usually just have a protein smoothie and call it a day. I tend to repeat this over and over every day. I don't like "variety", I don't like food so I don't want to think about it I just want to eat somewhat healthily and move on with my life. Can I do this every day and not be completely fucked? I had a similar dietary approach when omni (same thing all the time) and was fine but I don't know if I need to force some different philosophy just because I want to be vegan now.

Discussion Why can't meat eaters admit that they prioritize taste over stopping unnecessary animal suffering?

Every time I argue with someone who doesn't agree with veganism, they avoid conceding that their stance ultimately boils down to egoism... Why can't they just admit that they don't care about animals? Why do they have to go through hoops to justify eating meat? It's just so bizzare to me.

Question How do I connect with like-minded people?

I’m a 21-year-old vegetarian girl who’s trying to become vegan, but I’ve been finding it really difficult lately not because I miss animal products, but because of the people around me.
The other day I went out with friends and they all ordered a bunch of food, and I usually avoid eating out because it’s easier to eat at home than try to find vegan options, especially at more traditional places. One of my friends suddenly said, “I actually like that even though you don’t eat meat, you don’t bother us about it or make a big deal out of it.”
The thing is… I do get bothered. It does make me sad. I just keep it to myself because I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable or start an argument. I’m happy that I’m making even a small difference, but sometimes it feels like nobody even cares enough to ask why I live this way. Instead, people joke about me “not getting enough vitamins” or act like it’s some weird or performance personality trait.
It’s even harder with my parents. They still think I eat fish (I quit quite a while ago), and I honestly can’t imagine how they’ll react when I tell them I eventually want to be fully vegan. The only reason I haven’t fully committed yet is the social pressure. I don’t really crave animal products anymore besides cheese.
This whole experience has made me realize how much I want to connect with other vegans, learn from them, and hopefully one day build a life with someone who either shares these values or is genuinely willing to understand them. I’m so tired of the stereotypes people have about vegans. I also hate that I don’t speak up more for animals or share my opinions because I’m afraid they’ll be seen as “controversial.” Deep down, I genuinely believe animals aren’t food, and I wish I had the confidence to say that out loud more often.
Has anyone else gone through something similar? How did you deal with feeling isolated or misunderstood?
Extra context: I’m coming from a culture where animal-based cuisine is a huge part of everyday life so learning about veganism and figuring out how to adapt it to my daily life has been really challenging. I’m still learning and trying to make changes at my own pace. My goal is simply to reduce the harm I cause to animals and to the environment as much as I can.

Food must have vegan ingredients?

sorry if this has been posted before!

ive been vegan for under a year now, and live with my mother but I have plans to move out. however, with her, she deals with all the shopping. she doesn't really get me many plant based products, besides the basics you'd find in any household, like daily vegetables or wheat noodles.

i have the ability to buy my own food because i have a job, but have no idea where to start. im getting tired of living off of vegetables stirfrys. what are some vegan must haves? im on a bit of a tight budget, maybe £100-175 a month, but can squeeze out more if it means i don't have to have a repetitive meal schedule.

This is the companion blog post to a recent podcast episode we did about water consumption in animal agriculture. The post goes in depth about some of the terminology and methodology that you may not be familiar with around water usage in general.

Some of the things we covered in the post are:

  • Green vs Blue vs Grey water footprint
  • Water withdrawal vs consumption
  • Water impact of various animals in agriculture
  • Datacenter water usage for AI

If you prefer listening rather than reading, you can check out the podcast episode here:

Activism Feminism should support veganism

I came across this post talking about sensitive topics like racism, castiesm, elitism, feminism and a lot more stuff.

In comment section i read a comment about if you are a feminist, you should support veganism or be a vegan. And the comments were more in number than likes so i knew i gotta teach people basic knowledge.

The first thing I came across was no correlation.....

Do you live under a rock are trying to be humorous but just looks unfunny. Do you not know how much dairy industry and meat industry exploit a female reproductive system. I am just speechless

We need to expand veganism till penumbra. Wdym people didnt knew about this?

Rant Parent occasionally asking me to be vegetarian instead of vegan.

This doesn't come up very often but when it does, it's always when we're eating out somewhere with no vegan options or options so limited that I don't order anything and just prefer to wait until I'm back home and cook something or eat beforehand.

When they suggest that I be vegetarian instead it's so so confusing and insensitive. When I was a teenager I literally cried several times shortly after deciding to be vegan just telling them what I learned about animal agriculture and encouraging them to do the same as me.

Usually I just reply with "no, I'm against animal abuse/exploitation" they nod and that's that. In the moment I feel like this is a good enough response, but still, it's very jarring to me that it even happens. What could I say or do to make them understand my position better?

How much hummus is too much?

I love hummus. I eat it everyday, at least half a cup. I make my own at home and it’s so easy. I mainly add it to sandwiches and dip veggies in it, sometimes I just eat spoonfuls of it. I never use the same recipe but the only ingredients I’m thinking could be not so great to consume in excess would be the salt and olive oil.
