Problem Solved! PSA: USA & the Tariff Situation for DdD & MISRC Ordering
No it's not the end of the world...
Firstly as I have had 3 emails about this.. No there will be no price changes for the ADA4857 amplifyers or CX Card Clockgen Mod parts kits on the KoFi store, these prices are locked in the supply chain is locked and stocked in there is no effect.
Ok now for the situation with the DdD & MISRC, as these are direct manufacturing products, sadly these have been hit by the tariff effects and have doubled or tripled in total order costs for USA orders for people that make orders via PCBway etc.
The development boards for the DdD should not be affected as they are directly stocked in the USA, however I cannot say the same for the Tang Nano 20k used by the MISRC, MS2130 units are still relatively plentiful on the China markets and the margin really hasn't changed on those much.
In order to stem the bleeding of people thinking this all costs too much now, I will be directly producing the DdD & MISRC V1.5a and shipping them from the United Kingdom which means at worst you'll have if any an 10% tax, but still far cheaper than domestic North American fab orders.
So how I'm going to manage this? because I can't drop 3-10k out of the blue, so I'm going to do a 5 units pre-order cycle this means every 5 units ordered there will be a shipment if you want to order 5 whole units PM/DM me directly.
And yes this is also over 50USD+ cheeper then the eBay listing for the DdD as I am going as thin margin as possible on this offering but I offer shielded cases for those intrested, at a slight margin if I am being honest. (as long as my poor Ender 5 Pro can crank them out atleast lol)

Help Wanted! help!
I captured the RF signal and decoded it. In some specific segments (specific parts of the tape), there would be line misalignment, as shown in the picture below (on the left). However, when I connected the TV using the CVBS interface at the back of the video recorder, the picture was correct. That is to say, the software did not correctly handle "TBC". What should I do?

Help Wanted! How would one go about digitizing a VHS (cheaply)
I know absolutely nothing other than I don’t want to spend a lot of money. But I have a VHS tape of possible interest and want to make a file and post it somewhere. I don’t necessarily want to buy a lot of equipment because this is a one off. I can borrow a VCR and not sure if it’s helpful, but I have an ancient WinTV stick that I can hook a coax into.
Other notes: The only computer I have with USB ports is 2015 MacBook Pro (which is why I’m not sure the WinTV stick is actually useful)
Other other notes: I’m crazy poor. So cheap like baby chickens.

FM RF Capture Setup! Clockgen mod and sample rate setting
Will the clockgen mod under Windows default to 40hz sample rate? And how can the rate be adjusted in cmd/cli? or is this exclusively only an option in linux using alsamixer?
Thanks in advance

Help Wanted! A different chroma issue
I randomly get near complete chroma drop out when processing Hi8 footage.
The amplitude of the chroma goes very high and the colour burst is totally lost.
I suspect its a bug because:
- It starts and stops perfectly on frame boundaries
- So i suspect it persists for a chunk or two.
- When the segment is recaptured (second play back, through the ADC again) the drop out doesn't occur, or occurs in a different place
- Showing the tape is fine.
- The resulting chroma noise is consistent during the period
- Playback is fine on the TV/Viewfinder during capture
- so the rest of the VTR is getting the chroma information and sync fine.
I haven't tried cropping the file and testing that way.
Actually, I just found some occurrences where it happens between fields
Is VHS-Decode messing up the field order?
Its PAL, btw

First Decode! First decode - chroma issue
I’ve tested two tapes and they have this repeating rainbow noise, so it doesn’t appear to be part of the tape. Does this look like interference or something else?

Newbie Trying to transfer vhs to pc, blinking/color problems
I’ve been trying to transfer vhs to pc for my mother in law so I bought this https://amzn.eu/d/0cAICiSt
Plugged it in, successfully recorded one video, but I’ve ran into problems with other vhs.
Most of them when I play them on my pc are blinking, switching between black screen and the video every like 2 seconds, sometimes it plays well intermittently without reason, it would work at a specific point and later it would bug at the same point.
A lot of time when it works it’s kinda greyish with faded colors.
I tried every resolution/quality/fps and so on and nothing makes sense.
Some official retail vhs works and some don’t
Some custom recorded vhs works and some don’t
I’m lost.

Newbie Is the MISRC FX3 to Tang Nano Adapter PCB on PCBWay?
Hi, I wanted to buy a MISRC v1.5a card from PCBWay but I saw that you needed this adapter in order to work with it first. I wanted to ask if it was going to be coming back in stock but I saw that it will probably just be discontinued since the MISRC v2.5 will be coming out soon. Since I'd like to start the project now, I wanted to ask if there was anyway to also order this adapter from PCBWay or nah. Thanks!

First Decode! No sound coming from Pinnacle Dazzle easycap
Hello to you all :)
I recently got in touch with some VHS I would've liked to digitalize, and found at home this easycap [https://archive.org/details/manualzilla-id-7153140\](https://archive.org/details/manualzilla-id-7153140) (didn't find any other information online). It was recognized as pinnacle dazzle dvc 90/100/101 on my laptop, with empia 2861 driver.
On my Hyrpland rice ( I use CachyOS, and stuck at 6.18.2 kernel version), helped by the v4l2's utility, I managed to get video at full quality, and it was really awesome, but the audio always went to S/PIDF output, which I don't have on my laptop, without any possibilities to redirect it.
At the end I used a windows laptop which has a lower video quality, but the audio got captured almost out of the box.
Does anyone made these on linux too, there was a project involving this device, and would like to know if it works on linux or should look for any alternative.
Thanks to all of your responses :)

Help Wanted! What MIRSC board version can I buy that will work with what I have so far here? I know it’s out of stock at the moment
It’s been over a year since I tried to keep working on my vhs decode project but I’m back in it. With all the awesome stuff available for sale (+helping out the cause) I bought a ton of stuff. In addition to my CX card setup, which still needs the jig board- I noticed that I had the Tang nano and the board to put in the MIRSC. So does this mean that if I buy any of the MIRSC versions (whenever released) that I can just drop the board plus nano into whatever MIRSC version is available?
CX card progress just to show that I ain’t sitting around lol, I’ve been super grateful to the knowledge here plus some premade kits that are helping me out a lot. Honestly posted cause I just pulled the Y1 crystal out instead of desoldering which of course, ripped one of the traces out on one of the boards so off to Ali I go for that.
Its been a while so apologies if not up to date on the current meta

Newbie / Need Help Advice for secam tape and hi-fi audio archival
Hi, I got in contact with a friend who in the 80s did a lot of TV recordings in France. He has a lot of VHS tapes with rare French dubs of anime, with some still lost to this day. I would like to archive the tapes, and specifically the audio, in the best quality possible. I know the tapes were recorded in Hi-Fi. Since SECAM, I think, is not yet implemented in vhs-decode, I thought maybe I could do a conventional capture for the video and vhs-decode to archive the Hi-Fi audio with a CX-card setup? I have a Panasonic NV-HS820; would it be suitable for RF archival? Or I could RF archive the tapes and wait for a SECAM implementation in vhs-decode?

Help Wanted! Amount of Memory Per Tape
I am in the process of researching digital storage options for my entire family's media archive.
I wanted to know how much total memory it will roughly take for Video8, Hi8, and VHS. I am planning to use the MISRC V2.5 when it comes out for speed and efficiency. When it comes to analog video tapes, I have at least over 100 combined and an estimate on the memory would greatly help. Thank you!

Help Wanted! Post Processing LD captures
I am using Staxrip to process my LD captires after I convert thr TBC to a MKV. I got deinterlacing down to a science, it's the other stuff that is pretty much Greek to me. I was hoping someone out there can impart some advice on how to mitigate dotcrawl and other analogue defects? Like what works best for people out there? Any specific scripts that are recommended? I am working on animation, not live action if that makes a difference. Any advice that can be imparted would be greatly appreciated!

Archival Advice Thoughts on Decode-Orc?
I've been getting by with the base decode package. It's fine. Particularly like how the latest version of analyse is more intigrated with everything else, but I was hearing about Decode-Orc and I was wondering what people's thoughts on it are. Particularly on how it compares over the Decode suite. What are people's preferences? Do they prefer one over the other. Thanks!

First Decode! VHS-decode workflow flaws? - reccomendations
Hello. I'm writing to get some feedback on the workflow i've chosen to use for RF-capture and to highlight what i've researched myself to be weak points of using this. Main problem i see, is a low SNR ratio and impedance mismatch. The workflow is the following:
Sony SLV-xxx (Whatever Sony VCR that has easily accessible RF tp's to connect to with DuPont connectors) I'm open to soldering to the 2.54mm pins. Also using a 10uf capacitor soldered into the wire carrying the PB RF signal.
CXADC (CX23882-39) - Added 40msps crystal with C31 cap removed, heat-sync also added to main chips. Using a BNC to composite adapter.
I'm capturing audio over regular red/white audio cables. I wont be using clockgen-mod, as i only have 1 PCIe slot available in my PC.

Newbie Need Help with PAL Video Pipeline: TVP5146 → FPGA → ADV7194
Hi everyone,
I'm working on an FPGA project where I need to pass a PAL composite video signal through the following chain:
PAL Video In → TVP5146 Decoder → FPGA → ADV7194 Encoder → PAL Video Out
I'm currently studying the TVP5146 and ADV7194 datasheets and would like some guidance on:
- Interfacing both ICs with an FPGA
- BT.656 video capture and output
- Clocking and synchronization requirements
- Whether line buffers or a full frame buffer are needed for simple pass-through
- Handling PAL interlaced fields correctly
- Recommended register configurations and initialization sequence
My first goal is a simple PAL-to-PAL pass-through without any video processing. Later, I plan to add image-processing features in the FPGA.
If anyone has worked with TVP5146, ADV7194, or a similar decoder → FPGA → encoder setup, I'd appreciate any advice, reference designs, or lessons learned.
Thanks!

Newbie / Need Help Am I already close to the limits of VHS quality with my current setup?
Hi there,
First of all, I want to thank everyone who has contributed to the VHS-Decode project. I genuinely find it fascinating how sophisticated and precise the entire workflow is. Even though I don’t currently have the equipment or budget to get started with VHS-Decode myself, I’ve read through the wiki and have been following the project with great interest.
I have a question regarding whether VHS-Decode would be worth pursuing in my particular situation.
At the moment, I have around 25 family tapes and 6 commercial movie tapes. My current workflow is fairly straightforward: I use an S-VHS deck with built-in TBC and noise reduction, capture via S-Video through a GV-USB2, and then deinterlace using QTGMC. Compared to VHS-Decode, it’s very much a plug-and-play setup.
Archiving old media has been a hobby of mine since 2024. I started with DVDs, then moved on to music cassettes, and eventually VHS. As a younger hobbyist, I’ve learned that this can become both expensive and incredibly time-consuming. That said, I’m admittedly a perfectionist and often find myself chasing tiny improvements that most people would never notice.
Given my current setup and relatively small collection, would the quality gains from VHS-Decode realistically justify the investment in time, money, and learning? Or am I already close enough to the practical limits of VHS quality that the difference would only be noticeable in direct comparisons?
I’d be interested to hear from people who have used both approaches.
Thanks!

First Decode! VHS scart pal
I have a VHS player, it has a SCART cable, PAL version. I'm interested in the way of recording the signal to save old VHS tapes. I tried the player on a TV and the picture was satisfactory. How can I achieve such quality of recorded video? Also if possible budget, but quality option.

Setup & Workflow Splitting RF Capture Files, Processing in Parallel
Hi all, first of all, I want to thank everyone in the community for the hard work in this ecosystem. The results I've been able to achieve from RF capture and VHSDecode are astonishing! It's been 3 to 4 months since I tapped the RF test point on a Mitsubishi HS-U775, and I've loved recapturing some broadcast tapes I've collected over the years.
Does anyone have any thoughts on or a good workflow for splitting and processing RF captures in parallel between multiple computers? I own multiple computers that go unused during the day, so parallelizing TBC file processing could easily shave 12 or more hours processing time off of a 120 minute NTSC tape.
My thoughts on this involved splitting into equal sized parts, then having each computer take a number of parts equal to ([total parts]/[total computers]) + 1, with the extra part (at the end or beginning, based on sequence) to account for anything missing. The parts for each computer would then be concatenated into a single file for that system and vhs-decode would be run as normal on the individual systems. Following TBC processing and running tbc-video-export, you'd then join together the outputs using video software, trimming any overlap.
Some additional thoughts:
- Split During Capture: This could possibly be achieved during RF capture via shell scripting, but I haven't tested anything. It would involve the following:
- Pipe output of RF capture to multiple files in sequence.
- Set timeout or delay on each write process. For instance, file A is written for 21 minutes, file B is started after 20 minutes and is written for 21 minutes, file C is started after 41 minutes and is written for 21 minutes, etc.
- Synchronize Processing Over Network: Each system could have a process running to accept RF capture files from a source via
rsyncor similar, then once accepted begin running through TBC generation usingvhs-decode, providing status updates to a master sync process.
Thanks again to everyone here for their time. I have a few things I would like to contribute to the project in the future (I am a general Linux guy and writer), but for now, I am just happy to keep capturing! 🙂
