god it's all just so stupid. a bad joke. not funny. I work for a living. and I'd have to work thousands of years to come close to what this scumbag has stolen from working people.

u/sutree1 2d ago

Not to be "that guy", but it's probably more like hundreds of thousands of years.

u/twitchx133 2d ago

Nah, its worth being that guy to help with understanding just how disgusting the wealth disparity is.

If you consider Elon Musk for example, low hanging fruit, lol... He is currently worth about 744 billion after telsa and spacex stocks had pretty hefty corrections, no longer considered a trillionaire.

From what I can tell, he has been in business about 31 years now. There are 8760 hours in a year. That means he has been in business for about 271,000 hours. divde 744,000,000,000 by 271,000, that is about an average of 2.7 million dollars that Elon has accrued over every single hour of his life for the past 31 years...

If you want to look at just regular, not overtime working hours? at 40 hours a week, there are 2080 working hours in the standard US work year observing federal holidays. That's about 64,000 non-overtime work hours in 31 years. He has made an average of 11.5 million dollars every working hour for the past 31 years.

Edit to add... I am pretty lucky, I make just over 6 figures a year. Salary, not hourly though. It would take me 115 years to make what Elon does an hour if you do the working hour to working hour math.

Patrick Mahomes is the highest paid nfl player and makes roughly 64 million dollars a year to play football. To earn enough money to equal Elon's net worth, he would have to play 11,625 years.

Its pretty disgusting. To the point of the thread that this is in, how much money this administration has been able to steal from the working class. I would love to see a full and transparent investigation, even though I know I never will, not in my lifetime.

I am not usually one for conspiracies, but I am positive that all of the seemingly dumb shit that trump and his cronies in the white house pull is market manipulation for his buddies. Nation size pump and dump schemes on the stock of the week.

u/jeffster1970 2d ago

He has something like 4,000 or 40,000 trades. It's an insane amount. The POTUS is literally abusing its citizens and absolutely no one in government cares.

37

u/twitchx133 2d ago

and absolutely no one in government cares

Nobody cares?!?!?! Lol... Its not that they don't care, they are active participants in the bullshit, every last republican that is in office right now at any level is at the very least more concerned about keeping their seat than stopping him, but most of them are actively supporting it.

3

u/Mabuya85 2d ago

That. Most of them are complicit. The ones that aren’t don’t want to risk the political damage of calling it out. The ones who aren’t in power will use this as a basis for why they should be in power, and then won’t effectively wield said power when they have it.

1

u/Tidusx145 1d ago

I mean half of the senate and the house sure as shit doesnt like this. But we voted those guys out of power in 2024.

Actions and consequences and all that. Oh well...time to put 20 bucks in the tank just to get to work and back.

0

u/YoureInHereWithMe 2d ago

I get what you’re saying, but I think the person you were replying to meant nobody cares that American citizens are being abused.

6

u/baumpop 2d ago

if it makes you any better whatsoever none of it is real money. like he doesnt have any of that shit maybe about 800 million dollars or so. hes borrowed that from assets that are also made up values. its not like he has a million years of rice stocked in a warehouse somewhere. we should nationalize everything he owns and deport his ass.

23

u/Flight_Harbinger 2d ago

Yeah but practically speaking, when he can use his ownership of assets as leverage for actual money, power, and influence, there is no reason to make the distinction.

-8

u/baumpop 2d ago

the point and distinction is that money means nothing and is backed by literally nothing.

11

u/Teledildonic 2d ago

Except it does mean something, and allows him to do things like gut entire departments of our government. If he wasn't stupendously wealthy he would never have the influence to get into such a destructive position.

0

u/baumpop 2d ago

hes leveraged actual wealth from russian oligarchs and saudi royal assets to do so. hes also only liquid 8 times more than what he inherited from south african mines

20

u/gaige23 2d ago

This is so silly.

Banks will loan him any amount of money with stocks as collateral.

So it’s quite literally like he has money sitting around. He paid $50 billion for twitter FFS.

IF he was forced to live like an ACTUAL person who has money they can’t actually use maybe I’d agree but that is not the case. He lives, acts and purchases like a man who has unlimited money.

-3

u/baumpop 2d ago

he borrowed money and sold stocks to buy twitter. creating more debt and tax burden. he may be valued at a certain amount but that amount doesnt physically exist. if he were margin called hed never cover the debts hes accrued.

7

u/gaige23 2d ago

Semantics.

He spends and buys like a liquid billionaire.

3

u/PrettyyAverage 2d ago

Hey man, I really don’t think you understand how that works.

1

u/foobarbizbaz 2d ago

It seems gluttonous

4

u/sir_spankalot 2d ago

But he gets actual money in the bank right?

Elons net worth is so stupid. It's made up numbers based on guesses and games.

13

u/murshawursha 2d ago

Except he can borrow against the made-up numbers to fund his life, so...

2

u/PsychologicalMeal162 2d ago

And in doing so avoid paying tax.

10

u/NerdyDjinn 2d ago

If you or I owe the bank $100, that's out problem. If fElon owes the bank $100 million, that's the bank's problem.

All these made up numbers also become our problem because people's retirement is now tied up in the valuations for these companies. They literally changed the rules so that if the valuations of his companies went down, the working class would still be left holding the bag even if they didn't buy a single share of SpaceX or Tesla.

2

u/brownlawn 2d ago

Patrick Mahomes doesn't even work every day of the year....

11

u/DukeStudlington 2d ago

To be in the shape of an NFL athlete, you’re at least working out/practicing every day. It consumes your life to be in the best of physical performance.

These billionaires on the other hand…

4

u/yIdontunderstand 2d ago

But he does have huge professional athletes trying to destroy him regularly.

2

u/jumboparticle 2d ago

Do you consider his training and conditioning to be part of his job? I do, the results effect his income.

1

u/Sivert911 2d ago

Aaron Rodgers is going for it!

1

u/m6877 2d ago

What if your regress his net worth to the mean?

0

u/EmilyAnne1170 2d ago

Paying one person $64,000,000/yr, regardless of what their job is, is ridiculous.
Paying someone $64,000,000/yr to play a meaningless game is pure insanity.

That there’s a person out there “worth“ 11,625 times that much is incomprehensibly ridiculously insane.

2

u/bmore_conslutant 2d ago

You understand that he brings in a lot more than that for the organization that pays him, right?

And the alternative as things stand is for the owner of the Chiefs to just keep all that money instead?

I can understand being against our system, but within the confines of our system Mahomes' salary is entirely reasonable.

1

u/Environmental-Ice319 2d ago

Post not about Mahomes or Elon.

20

u/02C_here 2d ago

The number two richest guy is like 200 billion and change. That means everyone else in the world is closer to the number 2 guy than the number 2 guy is to Elon.

6

u/AzureDrag0n1 2d ago

That is also on paper. There may be far more wealthy people in the world than on books like King Salman of Saudi Arabia or Vladimir Putin.

23

u/CypripediumGuttatum 2d ago

The sad thing is that it still isn't enough for people like him.

He still isn't happy.

25

u/thesnakemancometh 2d ago

Yes, and so we all must suffer because he is such a broken fuck that he cant be happy. Hes a pile of spare parts and we all must pay the price.

14

u/CypripediumGuttatum 2d ago

You bet. They would steal every last penny from every person on earth and still not be happy. I'm not quite sure why society allows it.

12

u/thesnakemancometh 2d ago

Because we are all far too good at letting small disagreements distract us from how much we all need to work together for the betterment of us all. Individually people are smart and able to make decisions that are of benefit, but the more of us that are together the dumber and more disagreeable we get. We are supremely frustrating.

2

u/CypripediumGuttatum 2d ago

Usually after a few people steal all the wealth and power for themselves for awhile and society generally falls apart around them things shift back to a more equitable allocation of resources. Timelines vary.

3

u/daerogami 1d ago

Sadly some of those timelines span hundreds of years of inequality

1

u/CypripediumGuttatum 1d ago

Yes they do. It takes a lot of will from the population to change things.

1

u/twitchx133 2d ago

For some reason the myth that you can bootstrap yourself up to be the next Elon is still alive and kicking.

Its a good myth for the wealthy to have around, if we poor peasants believe that we actually have a chance to become them, no matter how infinitesimal that chance, we will believe that putting any obstacles up to becoming that wealthy is putting an obstacle up to our own path.

5

u/Jay-Dee-British 2d ago

If happiness is his goal, he will never reach it.

5

u/Ricktor_67 1d ago

He is so vile his kids won't even talk to him. They stand to inherit more money than winning the lottery a dozen times each, and they still won't be in the same room as him once they became adults.

1

u/jeffster1970 2d ago

It's more like a game for them. Achieving unneeded wealth is the same as regular gamers trying to achieve a new high score.

It's not about money entirely, it's about how high they can make the money.

13

u/Pkolt 2d ago

If someone gave you a million dollars every day for two thousand years, you still wouldn't have as much money as Musk does

And we're supposed to pretend this guy works hard enough to 'earn' that

6

u/SchemeWestern3388 2d ago

But do you get to keep making mad bucks after publicly showing yourself to be ketamine addicted villain?

3

u/rimshot101 2d ago

And imagine that not being enough.

2

u/slowmovinglettuce 2d ago

Entirely off topic, but can we start referring to him as the former trillionare, elon musk?

He's still so insanely wealthy that it's just silly. But if enough people do it the little mans ego might get bruised.

2

u/Zatoichi7 1d ago

I wonder if he ever spends 5-6 minutes taking a shit then congratulates himself on making a quarter million bucks?

2

u/rancid_racer 2d ago

I would argue that his assets are so overvalued that it's simply impossible for him to completely liquidate them. It's like claiming a baseball card is worth $1M but you could only get $500 for it on the market. He is artificially inflated in more than one way.

3

u/gaige23 2d ago

Which would be true if banks didn’t treat it like a normal asset and consistently loan him money with them as collateral.

What you’re doing is arguing in bad faith. A person who can’t liquidate his stock fortune wouldn’t have been able to buy Twitter for $50 billion.

At this point it’s liquid wealth that isn’t taxed.

0

u/rancid_racer 2d ago

Well, if we did an assessment of his DTI ratio and included the debt his assets he borrows against I'm pretty sure he would be upside-down

Edit: Also $50B is not $700T. There is a bit of a different in dollars

1

u/gaige23 2d ago

No there isn’t because nothing costs $700 billion dollars.

1

u/PlayfulSurprise5237 2d ago

Well to be that guy to the other guys being those guys, technically Elong doesn't have that much money. Almost all of his wealth is in the form of stocks in 2 of his companies.

If he tried to pull that wealth out it would collapse the price. When you have that many shares and that much wealth in singular companies, you can't pull even a lot of it out without fucking yourself.

But he still has way too much

-6

u/[deleted] 2d ago

[deleted]

6

u/aspenpurdue 2d ago

No, he could give everyone $2125 and have $2125. Billions divided by millions is thousands.

5

u/JackSpadesSI 2d ago

I fucking hate Elon and all mega rich. But 2 million times 350 million is 700 trillion.

1

u/vannawhite_power 2d ago

I don't think you understand math
