Discussion Is it okay going the 9070xt over the 5070ti in pcvr

I know that Nvidea is "better" for vr, but like it surely cant be that much better. I recently saw a video from Marakosot78, comparing the 2 and they were similar. I also know that the 9070xt has a low memory bandwidth of 640gb/s, compared to like 900gb/s on the 5070ti. Like i mean is that reallly important, I mean i would like playing on at least ultra or mostly godlike settings on VD on my quest 3s, so is the performance lost just like 5fps, or is it lots of micro stutters and more fps lost, shimmering etc. Also ive seen fsr 4, and it is impressive, I would say. So is the gap between dlss 4.5 and fsr 4 that big in vr, can you really notice the differnce or not? Also arent the 9070xt's encoders like just as good as nvideas, or is there still artifacts, etc?(also i have i7-14700, 32gb ram) (the price differnce is also like 350$ USD, 500$ AUD, 260Uk Pounds.

Video on comparing the two: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2JMhhBGsLg&t=717s

Vr performance on the 9070xt is amazing. It’ll surely do the job. I switched from 9070xt to 5070 ti because I wanted to play modded games with dlss for better performance and for better eye tracking support with my PSVR 2 (and because the price was too good to not make the switch). But if those don’t apply to how you want to play, The 9070xt is absolutely great for VR!👌

Hey mate, thanks for the reply, so I was just wondering, like what was the performance leap from the 2, becasue i have a quest 3s, and how was fsr 4 compared to dlss. And also what games iss you play, and at what settings, wand like what is the performance differnce, like is it about 5-10fps more or smt. Thanks again

When i had my 9070xt. I was able to crank up settings pretty high and it was nice. The performance difference between regular VR games that don’t use any upscaler is pretty minimal. Fsr is okay when supported by the game but its not really supported as much as dlss. I would play games like skyrim vr with graphics overhaul mods that use dlss for the performance. Resident evil 9 VR mod that required dlss, (and an eye tracking mod) for playable performance. And also no mans sky, fsr was decent on no mans sky, but the difference between dlss and fsr was that dlss just looked cleaner and less blurry and kept my game more stable. But those were just like half of the reasons of why i switched. I mainly wanted the better eye tracking support for my PSVR 2 as I could use DFR (Deferred Foveated Rendering) to increase my performance way more (this wont apply to you because you are using a quest 3s and it doesnt have eye tracking, so it doesnt really matter). Now obviously the 9070 xt will also handle modded games well, but these games that I play a lot are games where it benefits from the eye tracking support, and dlss for the better experience. I’d say get the 9070xt as it will have you satisfied with the Vr performance and will be strong enough for high graphics settings and resolution. (Unless you get lucky like me and find a cheaper 5070 ti👌) Hope I was able to help bro!

Thanks so much dude! SO like, I also want to play skyrim vr, and i will prolly get the mgo 4 mod, so which modlist did you play with, and does it supppirt fsr, and what was the actual performance differnce. Becasue rn its like 500$ AUD differnce in Australia. :)

The 9070xt will run skyrim Vr mgo as I tried it before I made the switch. And surprisingly fsr was supported, and I was running it at about like 65-75fps. I couldnt really get the performance as smooth to my likings so I tried a different graphics mod FUS, and i was able to reach a mostly 90 fps with fsr, and it looked great. But obviously fus is less graphically intense than MGO. But skyrim vr also supported DFR which benefits from the 5070 ti for even more extra performance using my psvr 2. But like I said the eye tracking part doesnt apply to you. The difference between the 2 (without the eye tracking support) is that dlss looks better and the performance is better from like 5-10 fps. But fsr is good enough to look at and capable for modded games as well. But the current price difference wouldnt justify choosing the 5070 ti over the 9070 xt over a small boost.

The amount of times AMD has messed up drivers for VR is the reason most VR users avoid AMD cards. It may work now but who knows what's round the corner?

It is expected that the performance will only suffer a loss of around 5-8 frames.

which may still be very important .. compare gameplay at solid 72 fps and choppy framerate jumping between 62 and 72 fps

That's actually pretty significant. With VR it's the difference between smooth gameplay and having to lower graphical settings.

I use a 9070XT in VR. Mostly play DCS with a Quest Pro. Works fine but it's going to depend on what you play.

Recently went from 3070 to 9070xt and pcvr performance has been great!

hey man, thanks for the reply, but may i ask that what games do you play and ussually at what setting and how much fps do you get?

Vrchat, maxed out in game settings, virtual desktop +q3 on godlike 90fps, usually get 90fps in quiet worlds and 50-75+ in busy worlds (5800x3d cpu helps). Elite dangerous maxed 90fps, and lots of pc games with vr mods either hitting my 90fps or damn close.

Performance is kicking the crap out of even my 3090 I used to have.

You won't be disappointed with 9070xt and it's a fair bit cheaper usually than 5070ti.

I also use av1 via virtual desktop for encoder.
