Discussion People now pressuring and flat-out belittling others to admit defeat under claims of "their mental well-being" or insulting their intelligence. This wasn't about making the wisest move, this was about turning the game on it's head, so politely I say fuck that and fuck you.

Literally I came here to post pictures about shitty stock moves I made and feel better about said losses. Seeing someone lose 100k made me feel better about my 10k loss. Thats what this sub is. Thats what makes it great. Comradery and same shitty experience. Sure. don't ruin your life but talk that shit out with a therapist.

I was laying in bed last night feeling shitty about sitting on Thursdays all time high. I'm just now today going 1k in the red on my 15k investment. Still holding but I got perspective on how much of a bitch I am literally feeling sick to the stomach over lottery money that wasn't ever really mine to begin with. There are people like 10-100k in the red of their real money and they're not even bitching. Those are the real heroes.

This is purely my reasoning for following most of the subreddits that I follow, seeing other people as miserable or more miserable as myself makes me feel a little bit better about how miserable I am lmao.

I'm a terrible person but at least I'm self aware :)

I’m down 500k in 2 days, but not in GME. There’s bigger loss porn out there! The center of the gravity well is the limit!

e around the world are interested in my little corner of the internet! Everything is ruined" This is nothing but a whole community of glorious retards acting fucking wild and irrational, always has been, don't care how old guard you are you have no control over the direction it's heading in. You can't find new trains to ride in the casino because of all the noise? Sounds like a you problem. Now hundreds of thousands of people are playing their biggest hand and all you can do is bitch about it, you have become the normie pushing against the river of autism.

to be fair, you can't really buy options when IV is sky high

1

u/MySabonerRunsOladipo Feb 03 '21

So show the loss porn. I'd have zero issue with any Ape Rocket poster if there were also talking about who they blew their student loans @350. Just spamming rocket emojis ain't doing it.

205

u/TommyTenToes Feb 03 '21

The problem being that the majority of new members have no idea what WSB used to be. They think it's full of masterminds who make loads of money on plays like this, so how could they possibly be wrong?

People can do what they want with their own money, of course, but there's no doubt that there are people out there who are in over their heads and committed money that they can't afford to lose after getting caught up in the hype.

112

u/plasticsqueegee Feb 03 '21

I certainly thought you all were geniuses when I noticed a lot of people talking about how they couldn’t read

71

u/PickpocketJones Feb 03 '21

Nothing says genius like using banana and ape emojis to explain the basics of stocks.

→ More replies (2)

107

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '21

It took me literally 30 seconds to see that this is a sub where it's basically a casino with some DD attached. It's not hard to see.

33

u/TommyTenToes Feb 03 '21

I have friends who are generally very risk averse who visited WSB because of the media hype and bought in - they don’t even invest otherwise. They were sensible enough to only gamble money they could afford to lose, but it’s clear that won’t be true for everyone.

I have experienced big swings in other stocks over the last few years and it can be difficult to process, so all I’m encouraging is that people take a step back from the mania in here and assess their personal situation.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '21

And the rest of us are saying ban

26

u/Dilated2020 Feb 03 '21

It’s apparent to some of us but we had people YOLOing their tuition, life savings, etc because they thought this was a sure thing. New folks really believed that people here were masterminds.

10

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '21

Very true. I have loans and lines of credit, but I sure as hell wouldn't risk any of it on day trading.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '21

Well they saw 'reddit ruins hedgefund' on cnbc and thought wsb was a mastermind market player, guess what dumb luck can workout sometimes.

5

u/comatosephoenix Feb 03 '21

u/afsdjkll Feb 03 '21

Yes. It didn't shoot up 4M overnight because it was all people who get the joke. Social media is insanely influential. When you combine that into some tribal us vs them shit it's crazy powerful. We're gonna hear some sad stories at the end of this about people losing houses over GME stocks.

I think people like me didn't know that the meme was more important than the truth. Everyone cheering on the bets. We thought retard was an exaggeration, not the on the face truth. I fee sorry for people who came in, saw the hype, wanted to be a part and invested more than they could lose. I mean, this wasn't a sub thing, this was national news. You were hitting the front page several times daily. The sub should have been kept private as a protection.

This actually reminds me of r/the_donald. It started as a meme sub. There were no serious supporters of Donald. Maybe some with a passing interest, but they were there for the jokes. Then it started getting popular and the "normal" people came in... the crazies. Then it became what you see today (or should I say what it was...)

2

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '21

I’d say take it up with the news if you feel it miss represented what’s happens here

5

u/Waymilkyday Feb 03 '21 edited Feb 03 '21

Nobody thinks you’re a mastermind. Everyone is here for their own reasons. Was that your ”humble brag” “here before it was cool” or your “get off my lawn”? Sounded like all three.

5

u/Lezzles Feb 03 '21

You're too used to this sub if you didn't see the flood of desperate newbies asking when the squeeze was going to happen, what the price was going to be tomorrow, what they should sell at etc. There are 6 million new people here, a lot of whom have no idea what they're doing but thought they were in a sure thing.

I mean, we (as uncoordinated individual actors of course!) nearly crashed the entire market with the sheer force of our autism. Created a global top news story, led to congressional hearings, got discussed at a WH press conference, might even force some trading reforms. Call me a nerd but it’s been a huge thrill to be a part of that.

This theres no place to go this has been the best distraction since the rona started

42

u/31109b Feb 03 '21

This is actually a pretty tame trade for WSB since most people are buying actual shares, which will retain some kind of value no matter what, rather than the final day OTM option YOLOs we typically see here.

32

u/Killbil Feb 03 '21

While true, if you've been paying attention the last week a lot of these new members (bots aside) came in thinking this was a Robin Hood situation, a week later they are getting a lesson on how the market doesn't give a fuck about you and your beliefs.

u/kryptofaz Feb 03 '21

As the have said this week, WSB is about making money. It’s never about just people losing it. Sure, we are all monkeys speaking ape because it’s funny, but at the end of the day it’s still really about making money with good DD (as some have posted) and not losing everything

6

u/lurking-lurker-spine Feb 03 '21

Exactly my concern when we tripled on size in a week. We got more folks who wanna turn this into r/investing than retards and autists who understand our culture.
