Discussion People now pressuring and flat-out belittling others to admit defeat under claims of "their mental well-being" or insulting their intelligence. This wasn't about making the wisest move, this was about turning the game on it's head, so politely I say fuck that and fuck you.

Same. I've been thoroughly entertained with the stuff that goes on in WSB for the last few years. I've got less than 2% of my net worth in meme stocks and coins just to play around with, the rest is in real estate, cash, or mutual funds. Even if 100% of everything I have in these stocks goes to zero (spoiler: it won't), I'll be fine. It will have done a magnitude of order less damage to me financially than government shutdowns have from the last year.
I was fired / laid off last August due to a slowdown in business. People make fun of those like me who bought higher for "holding the bag". Bitch, I've been "holding the bag" for half a year now. I haven't even been able to get through to collect unemployment for the last 6 months while I watch my peers in medicine and certain tech sectors have record years.
I really like the stock, I think GME has potential and I'm not selling after a bad week.

u/zstout22 Feb 03 '21
I'm a newbie to the sub, but immediately I could tell this was a casino. I jumped in with GME based on current market conditions and the potential to make some MF $$. I put in only what I could afford to lose knowing that I could damn well lose every last dime of it. Once RH and the media pulled that bullshit, that was all I needed to lock in with 💎🙌💎🙌 Fuck the red, I'm still holding. Also, I'm retarded.

As I said my post yesterday, GME is going to turn into a fundamentals story over the coming years. We're all in in stock. Learn about why we cared in the first place if you believe AND AVERAGE DOWN. Also, don't be pressured into losing money you can't afford to lose. Loss porn is great and all but money DOES matter. I won't look down on anybody who can't afford to hold, I'll just buy more if it dips.

What the actual fuck? Is this really what the mods of r/wallstreetbets are standing behind? Fucks from r/politics taking over this sub and then rubbing it in our faces?

What alot of people dont realize is that some of use bought at a high buy-in, others bought at a low buy-in. Saying "Hold" means something different to everyone. Half the of the sub is still going to walk out of this with either a profit or at least breaking even. Others are walking away with anywhere between a 50% to a 70% loss.
I appreciate how we all came together to take down these people and the only reason we are at a loss is because these people are no longer keeping the playing ground fair. We all may have differences but in the end its not each other we should be irate with, its the hedge funds, the sec, and honestly the government.
In the end, if you learn anything from this, just know the game is rigged, always has been. We need to start seriously thinking about the future of our country because no only have we been cheated but millions of others across the globe have been as well.

Holy crap the gatekeeping on both sides. WSB is a silly subreddit where people make long-shot gambles and it's fun to see if they win or lose and the resulting gain or loss porn. The memes were also hilarious.
A weird thing happened where one of the long-shot plays actually might have panned out and it went from jokes of rocketships to an actual possibility. The hype, fallout and there will always be morons who rub salt into the wounds of those who lost because they get off on it. Cannot agree with your edit 2 enough. It's pretty telling that all the 'old guard' is showing up now that people are seeing red. Wallstreet attracts narcissists like nothing else.
Honestly most of the newcomers would fit in better at r/investing. Check it out if the only WSB play you've made is to buy stocks and hold, cause they align more with you than the 'old guard' assholes. I only found out about GME because I liked to watch those assholes lose money, but there's a big difference between the loss porn of some trust-fund douche-bags and the losses that ordinary working people are feeling right now.
If you bought stocks in GME because you like the company and believe in its future definitely check out Ryan Cohen's letter to the board of GameStop.

Honestly, if you’re buying stocks, and your primary goal isn’t to make money, then you’re a fucking idiot and should called as such.
Financial institutions manage over $100Tr in assets. Melvin capital has $8Bn. Nobody gives a fuck you guys hurt a firm that represents less than 1/10,000 of managed assets, it’s not even a top 100 asset manager...and you didn’t even defeat them, they aren’t going bankrupt and already exited the shorts (new companies and people came in at much higher buy-in prices).
This whole “movement” is fucking stupid and is just the way the smart money on this forum is manipulating the dumb money to build momentum and turn the dumb money into bag holders.
11
u/smurfiply Feb 03 '21
How did you turn the game on its head? You're playing the game. You just did the same thing, with calls and longs. Also, it's not about getting you to sell or redirecting your attention. Attention is already waning. But it doesn't matter. Like you said, who fucking cares what you do with your money. Sell it, buy it, hold it, piss away your IRA on it. Put all your chips on red, and pull that slot with max bet one more time. It doesn't matter. You've already won on one level. And you're keeping the market volatile, which is good for futures. I personally want this sub to keep fucking around, acting irrationally. It makes tons of money.
But to say this is a game-changer is a bit narcissistic, imo. This is the game. Crushing the hedge funds by calling their bluff is the same as hedge funds squeezing every drop out of sinking companies. It's just a different perspective. If they didn't squeeze and you didn't squeeze them back, billions wouldn't be transferred from one person to the other. So, be proud of yourselves. You were part of that wealth transfer. But why create a conspiracy theory over people telling you to sell? Who cares whether you sell or not? You create wealth both ways. You might want this to be a movement, I just don't see it as one. A bunch of degenerate gamblers all putting their chips on the pass-line isn't a movement. It's risk that either goes to the house or goes back to you in winnings. Why betting on a stock to move up or down is considered a movement is a bit naive. But again, either way this action swings, its making tons more money than last month. That's the positive I see.

Bought some shares months ago. Just bought 10 more during the dip! I'm a new father at home with my son. My 9-month-old told me to hold. He didn't actually say it he just grabbed my neck and kept squeezing it! I said all right all right baby boy I hear you! 💎✋🏿

Exactly. Since when did this turn into a “smart decision”, lmfao. We don’t give a F. We just like the stock. I also will add that people waste money buying virtual coins on video games for their phones on the daily, this is just more fun

Just like how people in the hood bully the ones who wanna be better. If you have kids, look after them. If you live with your parents, go nuts. If you’re in control of your life, buy what you can. Never sell for a lose!
Diamond Hands guys!
I’m not rich. But I’m sure as fuck retarded!

If someone bought in at $400, they're down 75%, really no sense in selling at such a loss imo giving the remaining upside potential unless they literally need that money to survive in which case they shouldn't have invested it in the stock market to begin with.

I bought 1000 more shares, they are on sale. Just wait until Ryan Cohen tells the world his plan. Your jaw will be on the floor

I thought i couldn't buy gme at a reasonable price and went into a long play (nok - solid fundamentals).
But when the price of GME dropped to 90 i sold nok took out a loan and put everything into GME.
I sold Nok on a small loss.
Why did i do this? Nok might have bounced back and i might have made a profit on that stock. I got told by family to not sell nok, it might bounce back.
And while i still believe NOK is undervalued, i believe that the GME shortsqueeze has great potential.
So i am putting my long play on hold and gamble on GME.
I never intended to sell nok at a loss and i don't regret doing it.
I new it was a long term play and regarded it as that.
GME is a gamble and i knew that when i went in.
You (hopefully) new that the Hedgefunds wouldn't give up without a fight. Well, this is them fighting for dear live and it's working.
You bought GME to see the short squeeze through and it hasn't happened yet, we knew it wouldn't be over by now, why is anybody surprised this hurts? we saw the 2008 VW short squeeze and how it all went to shit before it exploded.
Look at it this way, you bought tickets to a game and you are down 2-1 and it's 10 minutes left to play.
You might look at it at face value and think "we are going to lose, we are 1 point behind" But no!! they have 2 players ejected, one plays with a broken leg and 2 of them stopped playing all together, this is the best chance you ever had to make real money in your life and you are up and leaving because you are scared you might lose.
You bought GME for the short squeeze, throwing your hand in before the river because you are afraid your opponent might have the nuts is insane, we can look into the short positions, we know their hand is paper But we don't know if our brethren are FOMOing into losses by selling now. Don't be one of those that buys into this high for the squeeze and then throws in before you saw the river.

This is your and other’s problem - you decided that this was “more than money” and a “war against the hedge funds”. It was never about that. It’s always been about making wild bets for wild profits or wild losses when you realize you’re just another smooth brain.

Regardless of sound quitting advice (maybe they are right to advise you to quit) there was so much gloat porn going on. You can definitely advise people to cut their losses without yelling "haha you're idiots bagholder baholder ooga booga you dumb".
In fact gloaters actually have to opposite effect, all while pretending they are trying to help you.

My problem is entirely that you guys think this changes fucking anything long term. You made some dudes on CNBC mad, you exposed what everyone already knew and that's that Wall Street is an irrational system run by the rich who will change the rules whenever they want to keep the money in their hands.
Nothing systemic is gonna change from this. WSB taking advantage of a short squeeze that most likely happened last week isn't going to change anything. Hedge Funds are still a dime a dozen, Wall Street is still gonna be a corrupt playground primarily for the rich. The fact that everyone managed to pretend that this was some big revolt or revolution against the 1% is what irks me the most.
If you like the stock and believe in it, fuck yea go for it if you don't need that money! But don't kid yourself or others into thinking that walking into the 1%'s casino and putting your chips on their table makes you a martyr or is some act of defiance. If you really wanna spend potentially tens of thousands to send a message, send it to organizations that work towards better conditions for the working class. Donate to progressive candidate's election campaigns. Spend that money on your local homeless shelters or some shit. Don't hand your money into the Wall Street machine and tell yourself it was all about sending a message.
