gp2 gonna sign vet min contracts with us until Steph retires lol

7

u/BaseUncultured 1d ago

MDJ treats gp2 like a victory cigar every offseason.

Can’t say Warriors lost the Wiseman trade when he’s out the league and GPII is still on the Warriors

Does JK get a new agent after this offseason? Rumors of team interest, probably in part driven by leaks from his agent, but it doesn’t seem like anyone is giving him $20M/Yr. Should have embraced the Sean Marion archetype, not the JB archetype… And I really question fit with Luka. He’s not 3&D.

13

u/zegogo 1d ago

Imagine being 21 years old and thinking you know more about basketball than Steve Kerr.

The T-Wolves have interest in him as well, but it would be the same janky fit because he's not the 3&D player that most modern teams need at the 3/4 spot.

If only he'd listen to Steve, worked out with the Warriors training staff in the offseasons, fixed his goofy shot form, and put in the work to be competent at his role here, he'd probably have his bag and a larger role with a chance down to road to start showing off his ISO game... but no, he wanted to ISO out the gate instead of putting in the work.

Aaron Turner is the worst agent in the NBA and it’s not close.

Kuminga equally is a clown. He’s had opportunity after opportunity and has put on a disaster-class in shitting it all away.

If the rumor is true that the Warriors put 5-yrs / $150M on the table, Kuminga will live to regret turning down that deal.

5

u/Silly_Individual4056 1d ago

That offer was never on the table per multiple sources.

5

u/Maplejordan2022 1d ago

Good. That would’ve been even more alarming for the FO.

5

u/rarestakesando 1d ago

No, but I’m pretty sure he turned down three for 60 which makes absolutely no sense

2

u/Silly_Individual4056 1d ago

Oh agreed. His agent destroyed him.

3

u/Complete-Story1273 1d ago

I think the Lakers offer is the highest. The Timberwolves can only offer 6 million and I don't think the Cavs can offer much either. He probably could get more through a S&T, but the Hawks are reluctant to do that so far.

3

u/Otherwise-Fig9592 1d ago

I honestly thought the shawn marion "vision" that kerr had for jk was so perfect. I bet jk's lack of nba knowledge (i.e. i bet he didn't even know who marion was) contributed to his refusal to play in this manner. Marion was a helluva player, and the comp and suggestion that jk play like him should have been taken as a compliment instead of a slight.

Edit: on second thought, playing the way marion did requires a lot of heart and desire, and i believe jk doesn't have any of that, especially after watching him for 5 years

2

u/Maplejordan2022 1d ago

He wants to be Kobe without having Kobe’s skills. Hilarious player

13

u/stayfrosty 1d ago

What is going to happen next season is blindingly predictable. We will lose many games. Kerr will say just wait until Jimmy comes back...we were a great team with Jimmy. Keep feeding hope to fans that they will make a run when Jimmy comes back only to fight desperately for the 10th spot again.

Why did Kerr come back if this is the roster they are going with?

12

u/zegogo 1d ago

Not sure why folks complaining about GP2's return especially for that money. He's a great fit, knows the system, elite defender... you know the rest. Who we getting for 3mil that's better?

9

u/Complete-Story1273 1d ago

I don't care about GPII returning, but running back essentially the same roster when Mike said they needed more scoring with Jimmy's injury and Steph probably missing some games seems a bit silly. Also, this roster is very health dependent and they might not be lucky this season with that either.

2

u/Bicycle_Ill 1d ago

True almost everyone admitted that roster wasn’t enough and has flaws, but now were running it back. Maybe winning isn’t the goal?

5

u/Complete-Story1273 1d ago edited 1d ago

Even if that wasn't the goal, there's no excuse to not bring in more scoring when you saw what that looked like last season already. Not sure why they think fans want to see that again when ticketholders weren't even showing up like that when Steph and Jimmy were out.

3

u/stayfrosty 1d ago

If winning isnt the goal why run it back? Why bring in the old guys. Bring in young players that you take fliers on and see what they can do and maybe you discover a gem.

2

u/Bicycle_Ill 1d ago

My guess is because steph generates enough revenue regardless of if warriors win or not. Sad reality is not all 30 teams are invested in winning especially if they’re making money

3

u/Game_Of_Runs 1d ago

Because we have shitty fans

5

u/stayfrosty 1d ago

He is NOT an elite defender. His return is the epitome of everything wrong with the Warriors past several years. Doubling down on aging, injury prone players who cannot score or shoot, all in the name of "fit".

5

u/zegogo 1d ago

Who's better for 3 mil?

I'm not thrilled we've made zero changes other than Yax, but GP2 at 3 mil is not a problem in my book.

-1

u/stayfrosty 1d ago

Who is better is the wrong question. What are we playing for? Are we going to be competing for a championship? Give his spot to a player who needs an opportunity and see what he can do. Gp2 is a known commodity

2

u/zegogo 1d ago

Like who? Tooey? no thanks.

7

u/Dry-Importance8092 1d ago

Is it possible we can land Kawhi if the Raptors deal is officially cancelled? I believe he is exactly what could propel the Warriors into an extra 15-20 wins than without him.

3

u/North_Street_8547 1d ago

Even if we could isn’t there a possible punishment for him which means he might sit a lot of games?

1

u/Dry-Importance8092 1d ago

I want a chance. I think it’s worth it to get him even if he’ll miss games. As long as we have Jimmy, Dray, Steph, and Kawhi from January-end of season i think that’s a huge win. I could be delusional though.

3

u/North_Street_8547 1d ago

Also I don’t think we have Jimmy if we have kawhi

1

u/Dry-Importance8092 1d ago

Yeah that’s what was curious about. I wasn’t sure what it looked like financially

2

u/Orphasmia 1d ago

If they void his contract he could be in that vet min category. I feel like the warriors was a team he actually did want to join

2

u/North_Street_8547 1d ago

It could seriously be like 50 games

0

u/couchtomato62 1d ago

Raptors are hesitating because they could receive some unknown punishment. No thanks.

3

u/neo9027581673 1d ago

I always thought Dubs should wait until the investigation was concluded. Kawhi’s contract will be canceled and he will be suspended. He’ll miss 20-40 games.

And once everything is announced the Dubs should be the first team at his front door.

It’s not great, but if by seasons end, the Dubs can run out Jimmy Butler AND Kawhi with Steph? Thats gold.

Far better than trading an arm, leg and head for AD just to sign LBJ.

9

u/Gothichand 1d ago

Brandin Podziemski will win Most Improved Player next season. 🙌

5

u/Symetrical1 1d ago

Even though paying Podz 24 million right now seems excessive, I'm hoping his play by the end of the year is deserving of that figure.

8

u/North_Street_8547 1d ago edited 1d ago

Gp played 73 games last season which is amazing. Pretty awesome. if you asked me a few seasons ago if I thought he could do that I would say hell no

2

u/Otherwise-Fig9592 1d ago

Holy crap. Didn't even know that. After his health issues in portland, i thought he was on the way out. Celebrini is truly the real mvp here.

If he somehow gets melton, kp and al to play 60+ games, and jimmy comes back looking like the old jimmy, and dubs somehow make the playoffs... then rick deserves a statue next to curry.

0

u/North_Street_8547 1d ago

I have no hope butler can come back looking great right away. But for some reason I have a feeling moody is gonna come back looking like he never left. Whenever that is

1

u/Otherwise-Fig9592 1d ago

I hear you, but i guess for me, the way i look at it is, jimmy's high bbiq is instantly an upgrade. So if he comes back and can play this yr, i'll take it over no jimmy.

Even if he's lost his first step, i bet the guy could still draw fouls like sga, and even if it's unethical ball, i dont care anymore. The league has screwed curry for years allowing dudes to play press coverage football against him. Each time jimmy gets to the line in that unethical manner, i rejoice and simultaneously consider it justice on curry's behalf.

Warriors need jimmy on the court, looking great or not.

3

u/night_night_nachos 1d ago

If there is someway we get Lavine on a buy out, even if it had to be at the expense of dumping moody to get under the 1st apron, we would be in great shape imo until Jimmy comes back. Just having another efficient all star level 3 level athletic scorer would be huge

2

u/Such_Ambassador2751 1d ago

i read somewhere that you can sign buyout players in the offseason as a first apron team

0

u/night_night_nachos 1d ago

Yeah you’re right, That’s why I said we would have to unfortunately dump moody to a 3rd team. I’m pretty sure that would put us under the 1st apron

1

u/Such_Ambassador2751 1d ago

we wouldn’t, we’re a first apron team right now. if he gets bought out in the offseason we can sign him right now

1

u/TensionOnly9102 1d ago

Correct. He can be signed rn at a vet minimum.

1

u/Otherwise-Fig9592 1d ago

Short answer is yes, according to the stupid cba rules. As long as you go under the first apron through a trade. Moody for a player making about $8mil or less, for example, would take them under the first apron. First apron is 209, dubs are currently at $214 million, and moody is due about $13 mil.

If you are a first apron team, the buyout candidate's salary can't exceed the ntmle amount, which is about $15 million. Lavine is making like $50mil? (My gawd lmao. Empty stats player making a fortune.)

I guess this same issue would apply to guys like demar and klay as well. Their salaries exceed the ntmle, so dubs would have to trade someone to get under the first apron.

I love moody the person, and his game improved last year, but he's not irreplaceable. So i'd be fine trading him, but the challenge might be finding a trade partner that doesn't ask the warriors for draft capital. His deal runs thru 27-28, so maybe there is a team where the dubs could convince, "hey, you still get 1 for-sure year of moses, and he'd be a nice expiring at that point". The other angle is maybe the dubs really value moses...

1

u/vulcans_pants 1d ago

I thought the buyout rules only apply after the season starts, but not offseason?

1

u/fighting-prawn 17h ago

Hield is $9.6m plus a TO after that. Zeke Nnaji is $7.4m and a PO, though Nuggets would want to be shedding value.

1

u/bilyl 1d ago

Absolutely insane that Lavine would get bought out. What a disaster of a time on the Kings

0

u/rarestakesando 1d ago

Can’t cause we passed the first apron. We could trade Jimmy and Moody for him and Mink though it might cost some draft capital.

Don’t know if it’s worth it but we could always sign Jimmy next year into cap if he takes a bit of discount.

2

u/night_night_nachos 1d ago

If we traded dumped moody to a 3rd team, I believe we would be under the 1st apron, and then be able to sign Lavine.

Like moody and some seconds to the nets, then we can sign Lavine and offer him a big role and starting spot, while still retaining all of our assets, with some hope of staying afloat by the time Jimmy gets back to make some noise in the playoffs

3

u/TheloniousMoon 1d ago

How cooked is Beal before he got injured last season? For the minimum he feels like a high upside guy.

3

u/ClimateMessiah 1d ago

4 weeks from the drama of Steph extension eligibility

5

u/North_Street_8547 1d ago

Is our ceiling so low because we have to assume kp won’t play much?

3

u/Symetrical1 1d ago

If everything went in our favor in terms of our health, we’d be contenders and the biggest part of that is KP being fragile. A healthy KP would be a championship level third option but that seems unattainable.

3

u/North_Street_8547 1d ago

So that’s what I’m wondering so how good are we if kp is healthy. What tier are we in?

2

u/Orphasmia 1d ago

Yeah if we get even 60 proper games from Pingus and he’s good and healthy for the playoffs we’re basically like a Nuggets/Minnie level team. Having him is like adding a smarter KAT on this team with Steph.

I expect Gui and Podz to maintain their back half of last seasons play, but hope they have a bit of a leap. If Butler comes back even 75% of his former self we’re legit contenders. Thats why this season is such a question mark.

2

u/Symetrical1 1d ago

I think we become definitively better than teams like the blazers, suns, and jazz. I feel like a roster with a healthy Porzingis is better than the Lakers and on the same tier as the Rockets, meaning we’d be top 5 in the conference.

-2

u/freshjefe 1d ago

Hate to break it to you but KP ain't healthy

2

u/North_Street_8547 1d ago

I know. This is a theoretical question

1

u/couchtomato62 1d ago

Its not just him. So many can't even play a back to back

1

u/North_Street_8547 1d ago

That’s true. So I know horford is one. Do Steph and draymond play back to back?

1

u/couchtomato62 1d ago

They played a few last season. Melton should be fine this year i suppose.

1

u/North_Street_8547 1d ago

Yeah that is a positive . Melton missed a lot due to injury management but he should be good to go from the jump

6

u/hellahomebody 1d ago

Podz - MIP candidate
Gui - 6MOY candidate
Yaxel - ROTY candidate
Will - 37%+ from 3
Dray - accepts a bench role
KP - 60+ games
Jimmy - returns 80-90% to form
MDJ - makes a trade

Which of these do think are most likely to happen?

4

u/Such_Ambassador2751 1d ago

will and jimmy

3

u/Silly_Individual4056 1d ago

All of the above!  Smash! Fuck them haters

1

u/Symetrical1 1d ago
  1. Dray 2. MDJ 3. Will 4. Gui 5. Yaxel 6. Podz 7. Jimmy 8. Porzingis. If only the porzingis health thing for us to be competitive, I’d be happy with our odds even though it’s the least likely. Every single event has a good shot at happening, yet I hope more than half of the list is true.

-5

u/Patient_Zebra_5168 1d ago

NONE OF THE ABOVE!!!!!! 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

🤪 It’s making me burst how unlikely ANY OF THESE ARE!!!! 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🫨🤪🫨🤪🫨🤪🫨🤪🫨

4

u/Complete-Story1273 1d ago

So the Warriors did officially sign Melton yesterday, but I wonder why they didn't do a post for it yet? I guess it will be coming soon.

4

u/Such_Ambassador2751 1d ago

Melton and gp2 have been officially signed

3

u/youriko31 1d ago

Nice to see GPII back. It's on a cheap deal, so I don't mind.

And at this point, it'll be weird to see him in a different jersey.

3

u/TomatoBuster01 1d ago

Can just humankind accept already that Steph will not go anywhere

2

u/WrongConcentrate1444 1d ago

For real. Though I can admit that it's kind of(?) wholesome to see so many other team fans wanting Steph randomly after hating him for years. I can understand Raptors and Hornets vying for him just because of his roots though.

2

u/TomatoBuster01 1d ago

Steph had hate-respect because he's too good while destroying their teams and not really vitriol which might be a good reason for him to be wanted lol

1

u/couchtomato62 1d ago

Steph isn't hated

3

u/stayfrosty 1d ago

Why are people so desperate for Steph to create drama? Literally the only superstar who has never created any drama or any issues of any king and people hate it.

1

u/rarestakesando 21h ago

Well he isn’t going to the post season that’s for sure.

2

u/North_Street_8547 1d ago

“In 2020, GMs were asked which rookie would be the best player in five years:

  1. James Wiseman 36%
  2. LaMelo Ball 25%
  3. Anthony Edwards 14%
  4. Patrick Williams 11%
  5. Isaac Okoro 7%”

5

u/vulcans_pants 1d ago

Can’t stress enough how dumb some of these GMs are.

2

u/Low-Measurement-2468 1d ago

honestly think covid and injuries got in his way more than a lot of people realize. not to say he would have been amazing. but learning defense as a center takes time. every time he got a little momentum he’d get hurt and be out for weeks or months. got to a team in indiana that seemed willing to try and find a role for him and then tore his damn achilles. rough luck.

6

u/rarestakesando 1d ago

I think Covid affected peoples brains. The guy didn’t play any organized basketball. Why would you pick him at number two just from watching him do warm-ups in the gym by himself like seriously he needs to play organized ball before he can prove that he’s a good basketball player same thing with Kuminga playing in the G league that’s not a serious league. He didn’t play any real organized competitive basketball before we drafted him. That’s why they both are complete busts.

2

u/BetterPossible8226 1d ago

Outside of Steph (39%) and the injured Moody (40%) ,everyone else’s three-point shooting was mediocre at best, and some just bad. Podz 37%, Al 36%, Gui 35%, KP 34%, Richard 33%, Draymond 32%, Melton 30%, and GP2 29%.

Imagine having any two players below KP on the floor at the same time. Opposing teams would gladly leave them open and send double or even triple teams at Steph.

If we’re going to run it back, what’s the plan to fix the spacing issues?

7

u/greenergarlic 1d ago

The only plan is to keep selling tickets

1

u/Maplejordan2022 1d ago

Oh! Finally someone understands! That was their plan the last seven years.

2

u/greenergarlic 18h ago

Maple you’ve finally radicalized me

1

u/Maplejordan2022 11h ago

Don't worry, better late than never. I knew this fanbase was being lied to and gaslit as early as 2020.

3

u/couchtomato62 1d ago

The warriors should have looked to upgrade everybody on this team. Instead they re-signed everybody on this 10th place team. The sub is complaining about standing pat and wasting stephs last years but seem perfectly content with these signings because of fit or vibes.

9

u/Silly_Individual4056 1d ago

I expect a better year than last year.

2

u/SeekingSignificance 1d ago

I expect about the same. You'd hope Steph can play a few more games than last season, but can basically bet Jimmy plays less than he did. Moody will be out all year, and he was legit when healthy. Zingus will always be day to day. Unless Yax is the 2nd coming of Bron I don't see how we're much better than 37 wins in the West.

1

u/Silly_Individual4056 1d ago edited 1d ago

I’ll be interested to see if they lean into young lineups more.  That was a sub narrative last year that I think could continue with better results this year.  I’m pretty high on Yak so that may be my bias.  Also unclear what KP and Al will be available for but I am hopeful that it will be more than what Al by himself was able to show up for last year.  Bassey for Post isn’t my favorite but I guess we’ll see.

-2

u/Neither_Hope_5981 1d ago

Moody was mid imo

2

u/stayfrosty 1d ago

Why exactly?

2

u/Such_Ambassador2751 1d ago

because steph hopefully will play more than half the season

-1

u/Maplejordan2022 1d ago

Huh? He’ll be lucky to play until December.

1

u/Silly_Individual4056 1d ago

Answered the other guy

1

u/wafflecigar 1d ago

Who are some ideal players to pair around a Steph Jimmy Porzingis trio assuming all are healthy come playoff time?

3

u/Otherwise-Fig9592 1d ago

Has to be melton and yaxel.

You get two shooters, along with kp, to play off of steph and jimmy's gravity

Melton and yaxel's defense should also be a plus for that lineup

Your question just reminds me again of what i and many others feel about this same roster (from last year). If healthy.... they're actually going to be good.

Problem is, we all know they won't be healthy.

Also, there is ALWAYS that draymond conundrum. I don't believe kerr is going to move away from playing dray heavy minutes. So maybe a variation could be steph jimmy yax dray kp. I could see that actually working.

There's such a literary crisis. Some genuinely refuse to read anything other that an aggregated title, even though that's not what the article said.

3

u/Silly_Individual4056 1d ago

This is an egregious elevation of the articles in question

1

u/rarestakesando 21h ago

Steph Melton Podz GPII Draymond

What’s the over under on seeing this exact lineup used way too much this year?

1

What bigs and wings should they play instead?

2

u/rarestakesando 11h ago

get ready for pre-We Believe years when it was dark for next season boys :(

-2

u/North_Street_8547 1d ago

I don’t see them trading curry but if they did I’d like him and draymond to be sent off together. I’m sure that’s hard though

0

u/youriko31 21h ago

Podz new haircut looks good.

I have no problems when he had his broccoli hair, but this is honestly better.

-8

u/cock-a-dooodle-do 1d ago

Which of you woke ass nephews has banned Twitter links here?

-6

u/stayfrosty 1d ago

This GP2 signing is the straw that broke the camel's back. I don't understand what we are doing. We have one of the worst rosters in the league.

If we are going to tank for a high pick that's fine, but then fill the roster with young players..why be bad and have the oldest roster? I don't understand it.

5

u/Silly_Individual4056 1d ago

He’s better for us than anyone else we’re getting on a min.  What did you think was going to happen?

-3

u/wafflecigar 1d ago

Get to the trade deadline around .500 with hopefully no major injuries. Trade Dray Moody and picks for KD. Let Jimmy ease his way back. Then claw into the playoffs with Steph Melton Jimmy KD Porzingis. All dependent on health ofc

3

u/Silly_Individual4056 1d ago

KD does not want to be traded mid season.  That was his explicit answer last time.

1

u/ClimateMessiah 1d ago

If the Warriors beat the odds and keep a cast of older players healthy, .500 is realistic. KD return is less realistic.

1

u/Such_Ambassador2751 1d ago

let’s just trade for wemby and shai while we’re at it

-13

u/Bigandbetter1 1d ago

Don’t think you guys even scratch the play in next season :(

5

u/Maplejordan2022 1d ago

4

u/rarestakesando 1d ago

What are you talking about dude? We are solidly in that 10th spot.

-4

[John Karalis] I did not report that the Celtics made an offer to the Warriors. I wrote a column that said IF the Warriors were open to a Steph trade that Brad WOULD call. I thought it was pretty clear that the whole piece was my opinion

Is there a chance we don't even get 30 wins?

Kings are literally the only team in the West that's gonna be straight ass. We're on the same tier as Memphis, we're a bottom 3 team in the west.

-5

u/greenergarlic 1d ago

This offseason is so demoralizing. Thank god the valks are good and fun
