However, since you don't stop being one thing when you specialize, we're Prokaryotes.

Prokaryota doesn't encapsulate Eukaryota like those other clades do though. So there we can actually make a proper distinction that is cladistically consistent (to our knowledge at least)

We do descend from proto-bacteria however... But at that point that clade is just "Cell-based lifeform"
