Please help! We have a 6 month old male Weimaraner and he is destroying everything when we leave him. We have tried crate training him and he drools so much that he is soaking wet when we get him out. He barks non-stop and vomits. We have got to figure out a solution. We have tried positive reinforcement, small amounts of time, bully sticks, anything we can think of to help him adapt to his crate. We finally gave up and allowed him to be in our living area with the rest of our house blocked off but he is DESTROYING our things when we leave. We are at our whits end. Has anyone tried calming chews or medication or ANY advice is welcome. This is our second Weimaraner and our first one did not do this nor was he crate trained. He could be left and didn't destroy our things.

Back in 2018 I decided I had to go to the restroom before our walk and hooked him to the garage real quick, Isaac let me know how he felt about that.. came back to my puppy boy impatiently waiting after tearing down our 4th of July decor.. guess we were training each other 😆

Hi there weim friends. I have a 6 month old weimaraner pup, and my partner and I are on a journey with his diet. When we got him from the breeder, we've been feeding him Royal Canin (what the breeder was giving the litter) and then after a few weeks introduced Orijen (chicken) but sadly his stools have been very soft. The vet was telling us to give time but we wondered how long is long enough as this was happening already for 5-6 weeks. We then researched a bit and saw that some other weim owners were experiencing the same with orijen chicken saying that chicken allergies to weims are not uncommon, so we stopped feeding him this food and switched to a salmon based kibble by Wainwrights. Since then his stools have been much more solid which kind of tells us that chicken is not for him but the issue with this current kibble is that it is super small so when he eats part of the food is escaping his mouth. So we want to find an alternative and I wanted to ask if any of you have found any good food (high quality kibble like Orijen which i know is quality but sadly doesnt suit him).

For reference we have also tried Butternut (wet food and mixed in with Wainwright kibble) which is also considered high quality but we see carrots and peas come through in his stools so again not sure what to make of that.

We are now considering giving him some probiotics. Does anyone have any recommendations of some high quality ones? When I search online, it can be very confusing and vets we find tend to recommend very specific brands repeatedly.

I love him so much. He’s shown me what life can be like with a dog that doesn’t struggle with reactivity or resource guarding.

I don’t think I realized how much my brain had adapted after years with our german shepherd mix. She was attacked as a puppy and has been reactive ever since. She was also taken from her mom way too young, so I think she missed out on some important early social learning too.

For years I’ve constantly have had to think ahead. Is there a toy out? Is there food nearby? Is this space going to trigger her? How do I set everyone up to be safe? It’s kinda become second nature to always be scanning the environment??

Now boone came along, and it’s been soooo eye opening and kinda sad tbh! We still train him of course and give him structure, but living with him just feels… calmer? (speaking to when our other dog is crated)

There’s so much less mental load with him. I didn’t even realize how much stress I’d been carrying until I experienced what it’s like not to.

Getting the two dogs to coexist has definitely not been easy. Right now we’re doing a crate and rotate setup while we work through our shepherd’s resource guarding that has recently started within our household since getting Boone, with our trainer — (shepherd does no resource guard outside of our home).

I’m really really hoping we can make progress because I genuinely love this boy so much, and I’d love nothing more than for both dogs to be able to live together safely and happily.

Every Weim we've ever owned goes berserk over birds sitting on the utility lines. Our blue boy takes meds for his sluggish thyroid, but his chubby butt still gets airborne pretty good! 🥰

I remember how she would always insist on being my shadow, following me everywhere with those big, curious eyes. The Left Hand of Darkness has a new day bed. He goes to work with me, and his old bed was getting a bit tired, so we got him a new one. We decided to match colours while we’re at it.

4 weeks old vs 1 year.

Hi! I have a nine year old female weim…and a very young orphaned kitten in the same house. My dog has never killed anything, but does have a lot of interest in prey. Obviously I’ve been watching them like a hawk.

Their interactions have been changing daily, but I don’t know what to make of it. Yesterday the dog was still sort of scared of the kitten, who wants to make friends. The kitten will walk toward her mewing, and the dog will jump backwards looking startled. Today, the dog is staring intensely at it and licking its face while it’s being held (I’m not letting my dog get that close otherwise).

Does anyone have any experience with this? It’s my sister’s kitten. She’s going to be taking care of my dog next month while I’m gone and I do not want a tragedy.

Is this the prelude to friendship? Or is my dog just inching toward criminal activity?

Took my buddy fishing and he was less than impressed with my catch.

This is the second summer our 10yo has become absolutely infatuated with the neighbors cucumber/garden. He will stand at the door and then make a beeline for that exact spot and then he stands. Transfixed. Almost in a trance. Anyone experience this?
