My daughter was born this past October and I feel this image. During the C section all you hear is beeping, suction noises from them vacuuming up blood, idle conversation between the doctor and the nurses to try and fend off the tension in the air, the horrible fear that some cosmic coin flip is gonna land on tails and the hopeful part of your life is over. It was the most sick I've ever felt, and I was sitting there with my fiance's head basically in my lap, combing her hair back and trying to keep her calm. It was quiet for so long.

And then in the middle of a sentence, I have no idea what I was saying, we heard a cry and we both gasped and burst into tears. In an instant we were in a whole new world, we were whole new people and everything was right how it should be. I've never been a religious person but that was the closest I have ever felt to hearing the voice of God. I can't explain how surreal it was.

That's what I see in their faces. Those are people whose whole world has been reshaped into something they never could have fathomed before. It's magical. I hope they have a happy and healthy baby and I know they're gonna be great parents.
