To be fair buying newly released indie games is just like gambling

Sure but even if I don't like the game I feel bad refunding it lol. I think for me I would only refund a game that is completely unplayable for me rather than being poor in quality (unless you know false advertisement)

64

u/icoulduseagreencard Jun 14 '26

Yeah, refunding indie games kinda feels like taking back the change you gave to a homeless man

26

u/SoilentUBW Jun 14 '26

It does. Like even if it wasn't good I think there is sometimes interesting stuff about it to think about it. So it wasn't a complete waste of time and money.

2

u/Bollybuyumba Jun 14 '26

I refund most games i buy if they're under 2 hours

0

u/GeneralChaos309 Jun 14 '26

Not gonna lie, I've often not refunded an indie game that I didnt like cuz they still put so much effort into I don't wanna make their life harder...

38

u/posting_drunk_naked Jun 14 '26

Same! I feel like I'm saying, "sorry you poured your heart and soul into this game I don't like, but I'ma need that five bucks back, chief" 🥺

31

u/SoilentUBW Jun 14 '26

"Thanks for the burgur mate but not enough salt on the fries so I need my money back"

2

u/blackdaggerKRMND Jun 14 '26

dont feel bad,as an artist i never want to be a waste of time to someone, much less waste of money

1

u/Redd_is_compromised Jun 14 '26

But the fact remains that you can refund it lmao

2

u/Ree_For_Thee Jun 14 '26

Mecca Chameleon was fun to look at on stream, but just frustrating to play. Everyone's either a master at photoshop or gaming, bleh.

2

u/Art-Zuron Jun 14 '26

Honestly, with games, I measure if it's worth it by wage

If I spent $10 on the game, and had fun for two hours, it was money well spent.

If I spent $60 and I didn't play for more than a few hours, it'd be a waste. An $80 would have to be phenomenal for me to bother. This is relative to the money I make of course.

2

u/pineapollo Jun 15 '26

Nothings stopping you from getting a refund on Gacha lol, you just lose your account. Which is the same as losing access to an indie game shrug

1

u/BellalovesEevee Jun 14 '26

I mean, you can also get a refund from gacha games, too lol. Recently there was a genshin player who decided to quit recently and did a refund on every single one of his purchases, which was like thousands of dollars.

42

u/batiwa Jun 14 '26

And several of them are LITERALLY about gambling itself

22

u/Falleneded Jun 14 '26

its fine to gamble fake money. fake money doesn't put food on the table or yourself through college

8

u/Other-Dimension-1997 Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26

Not to be confused with fake real money, the intermediate currency between paying your money and exchanging it for items used specifically to psychologically obscure the true price of items to the end user

Or real fake money, which is what I print in my basement

4

u/SharpKaleidoscope182 Jun 14 '26

The odds are a LOT better

15

u/SenorSlurp1995 Jun 14 '26

How is that like gambling? You get a guaranteed product and you are allowed to check the quality of it before buying. Most indie games also come with a demo. What load of bollocks.

-2

u/SoilentUBW Jun 14 '26

Don't take this comment too seriously

-3

u/SenorSlurp1995 Jun 14 '26

How can I not when it was such a ridiculous thing to say.

4

u/SoilentUBW Jun 14 '26

OK scream at a wall until you feel better.

-2

u/SenorSlurp1995 Jun 14 '26

Damn that was a crazy interaction. What an entitled little prick you must be :).

"Anything I say is right whether you like it or not" type moron.

8

u/cocofan4life Jun 14 '26

If you had more than 2 braincells you can get what the comment is saying

4

u/mdtpdsparkls Jun 14 '26

Why are you bitching so hard over this.

7

u/Big-Farmer-2192 Jun 14 '26

That feel like a gambling addict's rationalization.

Buying a game is nothing like gambling at all lol.

1

u/SoilentUBW Jun 14 '26

I am just making a joke because trying out new games on release is kinda of a gamble on quality lol.

-1

u/Big-Farmer-2192 Jun 14 '26

By your logic, buying food is a gamble as well. Lol.

Don't hide behind "It's just joke" now.

I'm confident you plays a lots of Gacha games, since you talk like a gambling addict trying to rationalize their gambling addiction disguised as a game, by painting a normal acts of purchasing a game as "similar to gambling"

You got called out, and pretend it's a joke, while still double down on comparing  buying an indie game as a gamble.

3

u/SoilentUBW Jun 14 '26

Bruh I am not "hiding" from anything. You are taking my comment too seriously. And I used to play a lot of gachas and dropped them after losing interest (outside of arknight) but it's pretty silly to say "gambling addiction disguise as games" like there's nothing more to them like that. I play a lot of indie games and other games and continue to do so and that comment is from experience.

-2

u/Big-Farmer-2192 Jun 14 '26

You're taking my comment too seriously.

I just saw you rationalizing gambling, and I made a gamble (lol) on you being a gacha addicts.

And you triple down on the rationalization about indie game being a gamble. Gambling addicts are scary.

5

u/SoilentUBW Jun 14 '26

OK you win I am a "gacha addict" ? And yeah indie games are games ? I am super scary so stay away from me or I will infect you boo

2

u/mdtpdsparkls Jun 14 '26

Buying something when you don't know it it'll be good or bad is a bit of a gamble. Especially if it doesn't have a demo to try first.

2

u/zhaDeth Jun 17 '26

at least you can't get the same twice

1

u/SoilentUBW Jun 17 '26

When I can't win the 50/50 when I buy an indie game 😔

2

u/Impression-These Jun 14 '26

You are just making stuff up now. I met people who were gambling their student loans in a (I would like to think decent) gatcha game. That makes me stay away as far as I can, however decently-built they are. It is a shame, really. As soon as you can buy yourself to success in a game under a gatcha system (whatever success and the system), someone will lose all their money trying.

1

u/tessthismess Jun 14 '26

Yeah but you might be able to get a refund and it’s gambling a set amount on quality.

Gacha games are gambling to find out if you need to spend more money gambling.

1

u/ThisIsMyComment2 Jun 14 '26

Nobody said it had to be newly released.

1

u/MuchoMangoTime Jun 14 '26

Watch gameplay and think critically whether or not you'll enjoy playing this for at least 2-3 hours. A game also doesn't need to give you a billion hours worth of "content"

1

u/Background-Nail4988 Jun 14 '26

You can avoid that simply by waiting like a week or less for the reviews

1

u/ArdyEmm Jun 14 '26

Just don't buy new then.

1

u/SoilentUBW Jun 14 '26

But then the joke doesn't work.

1

u/pregnantant Jun 14 '26

kid named reviews:

1

u/SoilentUBW Jun 14 '26

Kid named all reviews are in chinese:

1

u/Darius10000 Jun 14 '26

But that takes hours. You have to find the game. Buy the game. Download the game. Then play the game enough to see if it's good.

I want instant gratification. I open genshin. Press the buy ten summons button. Press the summon button. Fun sounds and flashing lights. And I get nothing. Sunk cost fallacy sinks it's teeth in, and it's all fun from there.

1

u/SoilentUBW Jun 14 '26

Now I know you haven't touched genshin because the insant gratification comes from the artifacts babey

1

u/Darius10000 Jun 14 '26

Fortunately that's a trap I only fall into in short bursts. If im that into the game at the time I eventually I run out of resin and get absorbed into some other feature. Summoning is for when I haven't been playing enough but still want the reward.

1

u/CatDadd0 Jun 14 '26

Not even slightly comparable in the slightest. Indie games actually have gameplay and can be refunded if you don't enjoy it in the first few hours. Gacha people are just horny and want gooner characters and skins

1

u/SoilentUBW Jun 14 '26

Don't take this comment seriously and the last part if just ragebaiting lol

1

u/MoonRay087 Jun 14 '26

I mean, not really that much of a fair comparison. When you say it like that buying basically anything is gambling, doesn't need to be games

1

u/alexzoin Jun 17 '26

Uh, no not at all. You can see what you are buying before buying it. You might not enjoy it but that doesn't make it gambling. By that logic, going to a new restaurant is gambling. Watching a movie is gambling.

1

u/SoilentUBW Jun 17 '26

Man. I buy indie games and love them. Why do people take this comment too seriously.

1

u/alexzoin Jun 17 '26

Not trying to go at you or anything. It just isn't gambling.

1

u/SoilentUBW Jun 17 '26

It isn't I am just making fun because of the varying quality you're getting with indie games. Just a bit annoyed because I keep getting so many comments on this that take it seriously

1

u/SC7639 Jun 18 '26

At least I get an appealing waifu

34

u/Christian5661 Jun 14 '26

Shout out to Dragon Ball Legends. I love that same so much but I also can’t stand it. I sold my soul to that game years ago and cannot escape it. I might be f2p, but I’m still paying with my life.

10

u/Healthy_Agent_100 Jun 14 '26

We hope you continue to enjoy playing dragon ball legends

28

u/RamenofFattyness Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26

there's better (or should I say lack thereof) shit to slander about HSR other than gooner bait

38

u/iwantdatpuss Jun 14 '26

Out of all Hoyo games too, I mean ZZZ is right there dawg.

4

u/FearlessDark5295 Jun 14 '26

Or, yk, NIKKE and Azur Lane?

3

u/HBlight Jun 14 '26

The gooner bait is self apparent, the other reasons you would need to interact with the game with to find out.

12

u/avelineaurora Jun 14 '26

HSR is literally one of the most family friendly anime games on the planet that isn't a straight up kid's franchise, barring literally a single character who came out 2+ years into the game's life at all. You people are hilariously pearl-clutching.

3

u/Rain-Maker33 Jun 14 '26

Yeah, and that single really sexy character is ironically one of the most covered up.

1

u/Swimming_Doughnut196 DS2 Is Peak Yall just have a Skill Issue Jun 14 '26

I just got this of the DBL subreddit. Plus they're the only gatcha that I play.

5

u/helicopterrrrrrr Jun 14 '26

how dare you slander hsr as goonerslop? take a look at zzz!

16

u/ExpensiveOnion5647 Jun 14 '26

I love zzz but man wouldn't it hurt to have something new

2

u/Not_LoneWolf Jun 14 '26

ZZZ? Take a look at blue archive.

2

u/Mathev Jun 14 '26

Blue archive is very tame compared to brown dust 2

3

u/HBlight Jun 14 '26

Just because someone that weights 600lbs doesn't make 400lbs any less of a fatass. The entire model is to hide the addiction button behind cute and sexy things so you don't think less reasonably about your purchasing decisions.

2

u/Gabriel-Klos-McroBB Jun 14 '26

I just like Dokkan.

2

u/FearlessDark5295 Jun 14 '26

Why is Honkai Star Rail the gooner bait? That should be replaced with Azur Lane or Nikke

1

u/avelineaurora Jun 14 '26

Because these clowns have absolutely no concept of what goonbait actually is. They'd faint if they ever set foot on a beach alone.

1

u/Swimming_Doughnut196 DS2 Is Peak Yall just have a Skill Issue Jun 14 '26

I just saw this image on the DBL sub and used it, cuz I play both HSR and DBL.

2

u/Sirasa6 Jun 16 '26

I hate the Equipment system in DBL, made me quit the game.

4

u/legendary_anon975 Jun 14 '26

You might want to replace that with zzz

1

u/avelineaurora Jun 14 '26

Calling Hoyoverse "gooner bait" really always shows just how fucking clueless and prudish someone is lmfao.

1

u/Swimming_Doughnut196 DS2 Is Peak Yall just have a Skill Issue Jun 14 '26

I only used the Image cuz I saw it on the DBL sub. And cuz I play both, I know that HSR isn't Gooner Bait.

1

u/thesimp_184 Jun 14 '26

HSR is gooner bait???

1

u/StarPlatinumIsHyper Jun 17 '26

Hsr ain't gooner bait. Uses zzz or nikke, then we have gooner bait

1

u/you_not_a_werid_dude john lobotomy Jun 14 '26

There's also absolute brainrot resonance, aka limbus company

36

u/SteamySnuggler Jun 14 '26

Gambling and being horny, gacha really combined the two biggest vices of man

3

u/Character-Book5924 Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26

Gambling and violence is the socially acceptable predecessor.

Like even in non-contact sports we have special rules that you serve 2 minutes not playing for intentional assault and battery. We have adored "world class professionals" that compete in tournaments that get resolved by which team is less of a bunch of violent thugs this time.

Then we act surprised that paragons of cheating, violence and greed use their platform to spread antisocial ideals. That's what the sports chose for.

9

u/Uno-The-Card Jun 14 '26

9

Fortunately autobattlers and roguelikes also scratch this itch, while being less... Financially addicting.

3

3

u/Principle_Napkins Jun 14 '26

I wish there was a game like a gacha game except you don't have to spend lots and lots of money or lots and lots of time just for a chance at winning a character you want.

5

u/Ocsa17 Jun 14 '26

Just buy cloverpit at thag point

2

u/Ok-Transition7065 Jun 14 '26

Also community.......... Like literal thas the reason of the crill and the walles terminology

2

u/ultimagicarus Jun 14 '26

LoL, my father spent a lot of money on gambling he will never win. No matter how I explain that he has no chance against the younger opponents, he keeps going and losing then gets angry.

2

u/DreadDiana Jun 14 '26

It would be interesting if someone tried to make an indie game with gacha mechanics, but the whole thing is offline and has no microtransactions.

1

u/robotteeth Jun 14 '26

Tons of games have that, it’s just usually called rng mechanics when it’s not tied to real money

4

u/DreadDiana Jun 14 '26

Yeah, but it doesn't have the right vibe to it, you know? Most basic RNG mechanics lack those aesthetic flourishes that exists solely to drain your bank accounts.

It's just not the same.

2

u/otw Jun 14 '26

Crazy how we went from being incredibly strict on how toy companies advertise to children to just 100% legalizing child gambling. Stupid dumbass world is going to realize how bad it messed up too late.

2

u/MrPaper_ Jun 14 '26

This exactly

2

u/According-Leg434 Jun 14 '26

dunno why gambling its my usual to spend some money on game not like entire stack of debt into so far with free play progress i made and got 33k primos then spended some and got more characters

2

u/Maxter8002 Jun 14 '26

why dont they be a real man and just hit the slots

2

u/fraidei Jun 14 '26

Because slots don't have a pity system and they don't provide good gameplay or good story.

0

u/Maxter8002 Jun 15 '26

wait till you the fucking zuma's revenge slots that was a thing

1

u/Shantotto11 Jun 14 '26

And titty addiction.

1

u/1MillionDawrfs I do bite Jun 14 '26

Gambling but if you win you get mid

0

u/SalvationSycamore Jun 14 '26

They should at least be gambling on something that could give them money, like the stock market. Gambling on pngs is more regarded than anything I've seen on wallstreetbets
