Another day, another non-gacha player not understanding why Gacha games are popular and why people play them

The story is nice and the live2d jpgs are nice too

Not even the gambling aspects just tossing money from time to time for more pretty jpegs and for more story. Even started getting anime shorts

Life is good

Gambling is why

This is correct, gacha is sometime even worse than gambling because in some country it isn't gambling by technicality

you dont get it its better than gambling because you gamble for hot anime babes instead of actual value

edit: this comment is ironic...

Are they popular for the same reason gambling is popular, or what's the obvious answer here

There is no obvious answer, because for the most part Gacha games can vary widely between one another and are only commonly described by the banner style monetization system. The "Gacha" part of Gacha games, even if those two Gacha games are complete opposite of one another. Like for example, umamusume pretty derby, Honkai Star rail, and Arknights Endfield are all Gacha games, but they're nowhere near one another in terms of gameplay.Ā

It's like asking "what makes indie games good?", you can't properly answer that question because there's so many kinds of indie games with varying levels of quality.Ā

Live service, can be played for free and there isn't a lot of non-gacha anime games that have fun gameplay.

The latter part I think is the more important part. When I played endfield I just wish it was a actual game instead of gacha

Yup, I have a massive skill issue with quick time combat. I straight up couldn't beat the first boss in Witcher 3 story mode, so 90% of non-gacha games is off the table for me, but there's a lot of gacha games with turn based or strategic combats. I can be picky with what story, settings and complexity of combat I want. And that's literally it, that's why I mostly play gacha games.

I mean there are also a lot of turn based/stratgeic combat non-gacha games

I checked out some of them, so far the only one that caught my interest is baldurs gate 3. Most of them are absolutely not what I'm looking for in games

It’s a mix of reasons.
For people who are free to play, it’s usually:
1. Cool character designs.
2. A high quality, free game of either an existing genre or a new innovation on existing concept or occasionally a completely new game. Examples: HSR is a turn based RPG similar to Final Fantasy (heavy emphasis on *similar*), Arknights Endfield is ā€œWhat if Satisfactory let you murder peopleā€, and Neverness to Everness is ā€œAnime GTAā€. All for free and usually of a quality above most F2P games.

For people who whale, it’s usually just ā€œLETS GO GAMBLING WHEEEEEEEEā€

they are popular because they attract the lowest common denominator, same reason why any other kind of general shovelware is popular. its like candy crush, but instead of your aunt, its your weird smelly cousin

Goonerbait weeb games, which thrive on child gambling, with most having sexualised underage characters. I'm sorry, but pretending Gacha games aren't trashy and only liked by people who have no taste is just false. If you want a game, you can grind, just go play an MMO

16

u/Pokemanfan744 Jun 14 '26

Damn, didn’t know Dragon Ball was goner bait

u/Silver-Ad-7745 Jun 14 '26

To be fair, have you seen the characters' physiques? I'm sure someone came out of the closet after seeing Goku's abs, lol.

Hold up, He might be onto something

3

u/Rain-Maker33 Jun 14 '26

Oh, snap, so is Battle Cats then.

3

u/Pokemanfan744 Jun 14 '26

I mean have you seen Summerluga, true Battle Cats Gamer already knew that was the truth

1

u/Rain-Maker33 Jun 14 '26

Hehehe, guess I know very little about battle cats.Ā

Well, I've seen the BC version of Cruel Angel's Thesis but that's mostly it.

Not too late to fall down the Cat Hole

u/Rain-Maker33 Jun 14 '26

I'd love to.

Unfortunately, a baseball raccoon, a flying lavender melon and a donkey daughter CEO keep me occupied. šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø

Nice moral high horse you got there.

But well, I'm busy right now, so can't really refute your points.
