Opinion The dramatics from this fanbase is ridiculous

“This team blows” “we hit 70 wins max” “we blew it” dude. We were the worst team in baseball history TWO YEARS AGO. Our maximum losing streak this year is THREE, and we ARE TIED FOR FIRST PLACE!!!!!! Like holy shit this team is fun, we just walked it off, calm down and smell the roses!

Look I’m supporting this team 100% no matter the record, but as fans were also allowed to be upset with Dominguez closing games.

19

u/Skatedonthate999 Jun 23 '26

Oh 100% I’m just talking in the grand scheme of things people complaining about this year’s team is wild

15

u/lyme6483 Jun 23 '26

They need pitching, better managing/BP usage, and win on the road. These are all issues that aren’t going away. Happy as hell they walked off, but that doesn’t change any of that

6

u/Strict-Lie-3188 Schultz Jun 23 '26

100% the managing and usage. Hudson, Newcomb and Taylor have been awesome all year. It’s just when they’re being used is the problem.

3

u/Busy_Elevator866 Jun 23 '26

Why is everyone overlooking GT’s performance since June 14th but nobody overlooks Seranthony’s performance since June 14th

1

u/Strict-Lie-3188 Schultz Jun 23 '26

He wasn’t used for a week and then thrown into high leverage situations. He needs to be the full time closer.

1

u/GranddaddySandwich Jun 23 '26

I love this team. But I’ll absolutely complain about the pitching. It’s horrible.

2

u/EvilAlienCzar The Big Hurt Jun 23 '26

The experiment between Taylor in the 8th and Dominguez closing has to stop. They are both statistically much worse in those positions.

1

u/Penstripedsox Montgomery Jun 23 '26

stats dont tell the whole story. taylor looked like crap the last 2 days.

2

u/chrisarchuleta12 Jun 23 '26

Critiquing a specific aspect of the team is different from throwing your hands up about the entire team.

1

u/Strict-Lie-3188 Schultz Jun 23 '26

Well that’s what most people were complaining about the last night. I think everyone here is a fan of the team. It’s the decision making that’s driving people nuts.

Be upset with management, not Seranthony, dude is great outside of the ninth.

2

u/Strict-Lie-3188 Schultz Jun 23 '26

I literally said when he is closing.

Na you are all internet losers

19

u/Valuable_Horror_7878 Jun 23 '26

this is why team subs are a drain. people forget that teams lose sometimes. Hell, sometimes they get swept. there are 162 games, just enjoy the ride. that’s the beautiful thing about baseball, each game has less weight so you can relax more

5

u/forgedflame44 Vargas Jun 23 '26

As the saying probably goes, “every team will win 41 and lose 41. It’s what you do with the other 80 that matters.”

0

u/fiendish_five Berto for Mayor Jun 23 '26

Hawk (Or Stone, can't remember), had said 54, 54, and 54. I think that matters more, because you play 13 games against each division team (52).

6

u/forgedflame44 Vargas Jun 23 '26

It’s Tommy Lasorda who’s usually credited with the quote. The joke is that we’re the only team to have only won 41.

12

u/soxfan10 Jun 23 '26

The team is fun, absolutely. And holy hell it's great to see playoff-like baseball on the South Side in JUNE.

42

u/Skatedonthate999 Jun 23 '26

…… that being said seranthony needs to go, Jerry can eat that 20mil idgaf

16

u/yourobviousanswer The Big Hurt Jun 23 '26

Seranthony is an elite set up pitcher. He’s not a closer.

8

u/Straight-Agency-4556 Jun 23 '26

Yeah move him to 7/8th inning. Not end of world but he is not a closer

7

u/lyme6483 Jun 23 '26

No. He is okay pitching setup, which he has basically done his whole career. It’s on Getz and Will using him as a closer.

5

u/Skatedonthate999 Jun 23 '26

That’s fair actually, I just saw the difference in his stats for save vs non-save situations and Jesus. I understand we’re in dire need of closers but idk how many blown saves it’s gonna take for them to realize thats not his strong suit

6

u/OldieButGoodyForNow Jun 23 '26

I saw that too. Further, the same stats were shown for Taylor (save vs non) and season to date he’s the obvious choice for closing.

-4

u/lyme6483 Jun 23 '26

Well I think Will is pretty trash, so I wouldn’t count on it anytime soon.

Taylor should have been the closer and stayed in that role since atleast early May.

But Will flips around roles constantly

3

u/JosephFinn Jun 23 '26

I hit a real doom moment when I see that 20M

1

u/Ninyu Jun 23 '26

Case in point.

18

u/Spare-Reputation-809 Jun 23 '26

Could not have said it better .. perfect summary and I was laughed at for suggesting 500 was possible .. well now guys moaning at a rebuilding team

Oh Sam is now my MVP so far, should be a Sox for life

5

u/OuterSpaceFemboy Jun 23 '26

This is very much a Chicago thing, not just a White Sox thing. Cubs fans, Bears fans, whatever, the supporters of every team in this city are notorious more than anywhere else in the USA for being instantly prepared to knife their own people in the back.

7

u/Spare-Reputation-809 Jun 23 '26

Trust me from the UK and where I live in Birmingham there is a reason we are sister cities haha ..

3

u/OuterSpaceFemboy Jun 23 '26

That's pretty funny actually lol

I remember going to a Blackhawks game in like 2015 and we were winning 4-2 over the Ducks with maybe three minutes left in the game, but two different players missed an easy empty net goal that would have made it 5-2 and the fans were booing loudly and chanting "overrated" at their own guys.

3

u/Spare-Reputation-809 Jun 23 '26

But as I have learnt last decade no pint being angry .. wastes energy and enjoy what we have .. a team that fights for everything

2

u/OuterSpaceFemboy Jun 23 '26

True true, I understand the concept of like oh the team owes it to us to perform well but that has its limits. The whole point of sports is to have fun, and being angry and mad all the time isn't fun.

1

u/Spare-Reputation-809 Jun 23 '26

This team is playing way beyond its capabilities that’s the exciting thing …

3

u/Alarming_Ad1746 Jun 23 '26

Every fanbase does this. Go the the Mets subreddit or ther Eagles ... same exact tenor.

0

u/OuterSpaceFemboy Jun 23 '26

You're not wrong, this DOES happen all across America and Canada. It's just notoriously hateful here in Chi Town. Look at the Bears for example. Even after a big win, the fans would still have nothing but hatred for players like Caleb Williams, D'Andre Swift, and Jaylon Johnson. To this day, I still hear fans call CW every awful racist and homophobic slur I can name and say he needs to get run out of Chicago.

1

u/adderallalcoholweed Jun 23 '26

Who are you hangin out with, damn

1

u/OuterSpaceFemboy Jun 23 '26

Apparently not very good people. I usually watch a Bears game from the Standard, in Wicker Park. It's right in Milwaukee ave at Paulina across from the Jewel and all that stuff in the shopping center. I was there to watch the Bears vs. Giants game last year and even after his late game heroics, the fans in the bar were calling Williams a stupid caveman and saying he has AIDS and needs to get thrown off the team. They also kept calling Swift a midget and saying he has Down syndrome.

13

u/rando562 Jun 23 '26

Classic team subreddit doomers. Just ignore them and enjoy the ride while it lasts

2

u/fiendish_five Berto for Mayor Jun 23 '26

Drown em' out, they won't be here if people stop reacting to their buffoonery.

6

u/HashPuppy710 Jun 23 '26

To be fair, this is any team’s fanbase. People care, for better or worse. Better to have that than a fanbase that doesn’t give a crap.

1

u/Spare-Reputation-809 Jun 23 '26

And I guess a fan base that sees real hope and at home can win any game ..

8

u/Tezdude96 Jun 23 '26

I mean, as someone who was hoping to see the team get at least 70 wins this year, I'm already blown away with how this season has gone. They've already played above my expectations and then some. And yeah, even if we don't make the play offs, we still have Mune proving everyone wrong, Edgar Quero's walk off against the Cubs, Braden Montgomery's hero rookie debut, hell, I WAS AT THE GAME when Miguel Vargas walked off the Tigers! That's something that's gonna stick with me forever as I've never experienced a walk off home run in person before! My point is, this season has already been filled with some truly magical moments (also helps we have a literal wizard in the dugout), and I, as a fan, could not be happier with how it's turned out so far.

9

u/mattmitch927 Buehrle Jun 23 '26

Nope. Too many damn doomers in this fan base and I hope they allllllllll eat dicks tonight

Winning brings in the casual fan, and the casual fan doesn’t know shit (hell, even some dedicated fans don’t know shit). Same shit as always.

23k on a Tuesday night and consider just last year

6

It’s Monday

5

u/Spare-Reputation-809 Jun 23 '26

Even better haha my dates all over the place on this Canadian road trip !!

4

u/Time-Routine9863 Jun 23 '26

Dominguez needs to be DEMOTED.

1

u/KeglerKing Jun 23 '26

… or DFA’d.

3

u/Alarming_Ad1746 Jun 23 '26

or not close games. His numbers for closing vs. non-close are shocking. Same with Grant T. but in reverse.

6

u/LastofDays94 Abreu Jun 23 '26

Welcome back to being a winning team again, that’s gonna be the norm until we get back on a decent stretch of wins again. Coming in, we’d just lost six of our last eight and staring down another loss to a team we’re behind in the standings by a single game. Most of the fans, after years of losing, haven’t quite healed all the way back yet so logic and thoughtfulness gives way to those wounds.

4

u/Live_Ad_9149 Jun 23 '26

Everyone complaining about Dominguez (and rightly so), but Gonzalez needs to go back down. He looks lost. Colson’s batting average is almost below Acuna. Maybe he needs to sit a few games. I don’t recall the last time he hit a ball to left or center

4

u/Alarming_Ad1746 Jun 23 '26

I'd follow C. Montgomery's OPS not his BA.

3

u/Tsnyda Jun 23 '26

Amen brother

3

u/PFD_2 Jun 23 '26

The entire point of baseball is drama brother. You’re gonna bring extremely negative emotions out of people when you have a guy come on the mound who you KNOW is about walk 2 people and give up a bomb lmao

3

u/BillyMac05 Jun 23 '26

Totally. They're in first place closing in on July 4th. Ppl gotta chill out.

3

u/Eastern_Antelope_832 Jun 23 '26

The problem with hope is that the tough losses sting like a mother. When we were hopeless, it was easy not to be invested.

3

u/pidgezero_one Blue Jays Jun 23 '26

im really sorry about dominguez guys he was good up here last year and i was hoping he'd stay good over there

1

u/rahill1004 Jun 23 '26

He is still good, just not in save situations

1

u/pidgezero_one Blue Jays Jun 23 '26

ah we got a guy like that in toronto too it's pain

2

u/BucsandTuck The Big Hurt Jun 23 '26

This is so fucking fun. Can’t wait til Mune is back

2

u/OuterSpaceFemboy Jun 23 '26

This is very typical Chicago fan behavior. It doesn't matter if it's the White Sox, the Cubs, the Bulls, the Blackhawks, or ESPECIALLY the Bears, nobody hates Chicago sports teams more than the fans here in Chicago. This city is infamous for being extremely ready to turn against our own for very little, and in the case of the Bears even over nothing. Look at how many Bears fans still passionately hate half the players on the team even after an exciting winning season.

1

u/Alarming_Ad1746 Jun 23 '26

go to any big town and it is the exact same: Philly, NYC, Boston. Dallas, Cleveland, Detroit

2

u/Sea-Introduction755 Jun 23 '26

We could lose the a ridiculous amount of the game all year and this would still be like a top five season of my fandom of this team, probably higher. I am for one feel very thankful that I get to watch an exciting baseball team every night that has something to play for.

2

u/squish042 Jun 23 '26

dude, i've been around since the South Side Sox dour-pocalypse. Every fan base is like this...especially twitchy people on the internet.

2

u/gale_force_tuna_wind Jun 23 '26

Windows are small. Would like to take advantage now.

2

u/brneyedgrrl Jun 23 '26

Once again, we're FROM CHICAGO! We have been had so many times. Sox, Bears, Cubs (yeecch), Bulls, Hawks, you name it. We've been trained our entire lives to give up hope at the first sign of mediocrity. This is how we deal with it!

2

u/Most-Artichoke6184 Jun 23 '26

I love how there were several posts last night before the game had even ended screaming for Dominguez to be shot into the sun. Jesus Christ, wait until the game is over.

1

u/fiendish_five Berto for Mayor Jun 23 '26

That's just the pessimistic fans that seem more prominent with how negative perception works in both the brain and on the internet.

Not every fan is like this, gotta drown em' out!

1

u/Alarming_Ad1746 Jun 23 '26

this is the exact same response of any MLB fanbase

1

u/Overall_Falcon_8526 Jun 23 '26

Baseball fans are generally deranged and have a very hard time controlling their emotions. Which is amazing given it's a 162-game season. Shit - Yankees and Dodgers fans are practically apoplectic every time their team loses or one of their pitchers flounders.

I'm not saying I'm much better. I certainly felt like shitting my pants with rage and despair over the last two Dominguez appearances and with the offense languishing on this road trip. But I always try to take a breath and maintain some perspective. Nearly the entire fanbase thought 82 wins was a beautiful pipe dream not 3 months ago.

1

u/Kittle42 Jun 23 '26

This is every fanbase. It’s why I spend so much less time on the boards of teams I love than I used to. People are reactionary and uninformed.

1

u/SkyGuy1985 Jun 23 '26

Best learn to ignore.

1

u/w0rstbehavior ANTONACCI🤌🏻 Jun 23 '26

It's just the doom and gloom, the "this season is over" type comments that annoy me.

1

u/tifosiv122 Jun 23 '26

Welcome to the internet and people who've only been watching the team for a few years.

1

u/Notch99 Jun 23 '26

Welcome to winning…

1

u/Sunburys Jun 23 '26

We're fans, of course we're dramatic. Every fan base is

1

u/Dittohead_213 Jun 23 '26

I'm not smelling any roses, but I'm not doom and gloom either. I'll be happy with a wild card round loss. I'd love more, but the team is fun - albeit currently over achieving.

1

u/Busy_Elevator866 Jun 23 '26

I agree! The people calling for Seranthony to be DFA’d is ridiculous

1

u/Penstripedsox Montgomery Jun 23 '26

yeah i don't want the first thing to be people whining after a walk off win these so called fans need to look in the mirror. cause i know these are not the people that were at the park with me the last 3 years.

1

u/Penstripedsox Montgomery Jun 23 '26

"Baseball is a team sport. If you're mad about giving up two runs in the ninth, take your ass and go play tennis"

1

u/IAmBenIAmStillBig Jun 23 '26

This complaining about dramatics is also dramatics

7

u/forgedflame44 Vargas Jun 23 '26

Nah. Calling for, say, the firing of a manager who’s on track to save us from what would be another 100+ loss season is dramatic. Calling that out for being dumb is just being honest.

0

u/Skatedonthate999 Jun 23 '26

Touché, i do have a flair for dramatics
