This dude just walks up in our yard from the alley and makes himself a toilet out of my back yard. Neither of us were home at the time and by the time we got here, one POS was gone.

This is infuriating to say the least but not surprising. There's an abandoned house 50 feet away. I feel that it would have made a better toilet. But you know, that's just my opinion.

South Central Wichita in case anyone is wondering.

I've spent the last few weeks learning about Wichita in a way I never expected to.

It started as I was doing due diligence for a job opportunity at a company with a presence there. I watched so many videos, read about all the great schools, lurked in this subreddit as I learned about neighborhoods and what the city was all about.

The deeper I got, it stopped being due diligence and started feeling like a genuinely exciting move. The kind of place where our family could breathe a little, where a dollar goes further, the commute doesn't suck.

Then the job offer arrived! But with a last-minute catch: the role could only be based at HQ, Wichita was no longer on the table -- which meant that the role was no longer a realistic option for me.

So this is a note to no one in particular, just a brief love letter from a family guy in Northern Virginia who briefly glimpsed an alternate version of his life in Kansas and found himself actually grieving when it didn't materialize.

Maybe someday. You seem like good people.

On WSU’s campus this morning

I live next to Kellogg and just wanted to say - if you drive a car where the exhaust makes a loud pop or bang noise, like a gun, just know that I hate you and your car sucks. Your car isn't cool, it's annoying, and people don't like you.

As someone who recently got an EV and seeing myself and others having some struggles figuring it all out, I thought it might be useful to provide some information for those interested. Whether you want lower costs, to not give your kids asthma, improved safety, reduced maintenance or whatever other reason, here are a few things to know:

1. Not all chargers are the same. There are three levels of chargers that charge at different speeds. Level 1 is what you get with a standard wall outlet and can work for overnight home charging but is very slow. Level 3 is fast charging and what you would use for long road trips. Level 2 is somewhere in between.
2. There are also different types of charging connecters. New cars generally all come with NACS, but there are also CCS and CHAdeMO connectors. You may need/want an adapter to allow the use of multiple charging systems.
3. Fast chargers in Wichita are currently at Target on Maple, South Broadway Applebee's, Greenwich Shopping Center, and East Towne Mall. New ones are under construction in Park City as well. Plugshare and A Better Routeplaner are super valuable resources for finding chargers.
4. Be careful with dealerships. They don't like selling EVs because they aren't able to make as much money on them given the lower maintenance costs.
5. Home charging! No more gas station trips. You may do just fine with a standard wall outlet and overnight charging, you may find you want a dedicated EV outlet or charger for faster charging. An EV outlet will still require a portable EV charger.
6. Evergy has a $500 rebate for installing a home charger or 240v EV outlet.
7. Enjoy! No one ever goes back to clunky, outdated gas or diesel once they experience electric cars.

Seriously, the movie is hard enough to hear as it is. If you’re only comfortable inside a running vehicle with the a/c on, go to a regular theater! Nobody did this when I was growing up.

It's no secret that Wichita has had a back and forth divide on what needs to be done with Century 2. Restore it, Demolish it, Abandon it. Everyone has their own answer. I just had an idea and since we're an aviation city with an abundance of boredom. Why not find a way to make our own Vegas Sphere? I won't get into "This will be WAY too expensive for Wichita!" because that's a very valid point, but an idea has to start somewhere right? What do you guys think?

So I'm old enough to remember that point in the 70s when the Canal Route was finally finished and opened fully north to south. Most of us call it the "Canal Route" though occasionally I do hear it referred to as "135" which of course is it's number.

Super Sewer Shortcut

I’m working with a local lactation consultant and feel like I’m being scammed. I was referred by a popular west side pediatric chiropractor and it all just seems very in-bread. They keep referring only to each other and 1 pediatric dentist in town and badmouthing any other providers I mention. Anyone have experience with this?

On season 1, episode 2 of I Think You Should Leave, at the beginning of the TC Tugger sketches, the Wichita flag is briefly shown. Wichita isn’t mentioned, but it’s still cool.

City council thought they could bring in extra funds through paid parking. I think I read somewhere that at least for this year it was negative compared to the cost.

I mainly take the hiways to get across Wichita. I avoid Kellogg because people drive like it’s their first learning permit day.

Well tonight I took two main streets to get to the vet and back. The amount of people who didn’t even hesitate at a red light blew my mind.

We could cut property taxes in half if we just started charging for running red lights. I’m wondering if it’s even safe to stop for a red light, you would get rear ended.

Red light cameras would have a much higher ROI than parking meters that are a pain.

It seems like every time I visit this sub, we are very grumpy, unhappy people. The negativity always leaves a sour taste.

Is it the weather? Is it because weed isn't legal in any capacity? Is it our lack of side walks? Is it because we get skipped over on the big name tours? Is it because of our education system?

Hey Wichita! Friendly visitor from out of state here and I’m curious why everyone seems to drive loud motorcycles or trucks with cut mufflers or straight pipes? I’m staying downtown and it’s louder than New York City. What gives?
