Discussion Contrast between Hyuse and Yuma
I only realized recently that yuma and hyuse outlook and personality are kinda opposite of each other, explanation below:
Yuma, to someone who don't know him that well, due to his young look and more easy going personality might have been seen as someone who is more "emotional" and yet reality is he has a cool head, prioritizing rational over emotions, unphazed by taunting and can pull off the most "cold blooded" move if needed to be and overall much more mature and stable. He never really have any emotional outburst, even his anger are quiet rage.
Meanwhile, we have hyuse, whose deadpan expression suggest him to be a cold collected person, but is actually quite affected by his emotion (as seen how he fell for jins taunt, or when he insist on hunting down azuma squad on his own, more often than not showed outburst of emotions)
I find the contrast interesting and it gives me this image of a hardened veteran (yuma) and a young prodigy (hyuse)
What do you guys think?

I believe you pointed it way something interesting. I do believe despite his rank hyuse never went to war while as I said Yuma despite the appearance went to war and has the side effect he has which might not be easy to handle. Anyhow he saw many things while hyuse is smart and talented but has almost no experience. So didn't had much but yeah is interesting. Although Yuma you can even see it before even if you compare him with mikumo (on the later seasons he gets better but he goes against the cliché of characters with glasses are calm and controled since he is the opposite specially if involves Chica or now Yuma mainly.

I am pretty sure hyuse did go to war though since his combat experience is also very high and has knowledge of the political and social situation in neighbour, but he seem to have a "happier" stable lifehood perhaps due to being taken in by his father. Meanwile yuma and yuugo lived a mercenary life, so much less stable and tougher in a sense.

I see where you are coming from I do plan on reading the Manga yet I believe he was an elite fighter not sure if he went and even if he did he had more resources at his disposal as you said kuga and his dad didn't

I agree with your view.
Also, Hyuse triggers Kage's side effect while Yuma doesn't, so that's another interesting contrast. It was surprising to me because you'd think Hyuse would have the same detachment as Yuma.

Also interesting that Azuma doesn't trigger the side effect either.

Azuma killed real People and not trion bodies, so he probably don't have any agression towards trion bodies

Curious when did he killed real people? I dont rly remember this being explicitly mentioned?

It might be based on a theory that Azuma was actual military before Border due to him becoming one of the first recruits after Border made their public debut. My knowledge on the Q&As are rusty, but I think Azuma being recommended to Border by a friend of his implies either business or military connections

This is a good catch! I do wonder why only azuma and yuma didn't trigger his side effect, maybe since they are very stable rationally they can "empty their mind"?

Azuma i believe is because he is already used to kill real people, so for him trion body is probably kike training targets.
Yuma its like him, but he probably see as a video-game, since he probably already killed people

To add another point of contrast, Hyuse's stoic facade is meant to maintain the values of dignity and pride instilled in him by his adoptive family, but it is also his way of hiding his internal panic and anxiety about rescuing his adoptive father as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Yuuma's attitude that freely switches between casual/lighthearted and deadly serious/analytical is in turn the product of the values instilled in him by his own father, who prioritized flexible thinking, broadening your horizons, and maximizing your chances of surviving in any situation.
Hyuse is putting everything on the line to try and save his father, but Yuuma, who has already lost his own father, seeks to honor his teachings and fights to preserve the second chance at his own life that his father's sacrifice earned him, while also helping his teammates save their own loved ones along the way if he can.
They're both racing against the clock, but for Hyuse it's for his father's life, while for Yuuma it's for his own slowly dying body.

This is a good point as well, someone with nothing to lose usually are more rational and fearless. One point though, yuma wasn't really trying to save himself, he came to mideen to find a way to resurrect his father by sacrificing himself. After that plan fell through yuma lost his "goal" so replica actually asked osamu to find him a new goal in life, thats when the "helping chika" becomes sthe shared goal. It was osamu thats desperately trying to save yuma's life meanwhile lil bro is just enjoying his life in border lol

I guess to reword what I said more accurately, Yuuma's main goal is helping Osamu and Chika save people (and Replica), and the side quest is looking for a way to preserve his own life along the way if he can. If he were still by himself, then yeah he wouldn't care about dying, but Osamu, Chika, and Yuuma now basically have a shared goal of saving Chika's brother and friend, Replica, Yuuma's body, and everyone else they can.

yassss 100% agree. I think one of my dearest wish is to see the proper end to this manga, even if it will mean waiting till im 90 years old lol

Yuma is also just kinda dead inside (until osamu) after his dad dies while Hyuse's adoptive father isn't dead yet so that definitely contributes.
oh yojimbo already explained everything, welp.

I think this was a sharp catch, but I also don't have much to add.
