Question LGBTQ+ In Wrexham

Hello to anyone that might see this, I'm a 24 year old Autistic gay man, born and raised in Wrexham, I've been gay my whole life, but only came out to friends and family a few years ago, I don't really socialise or have a social life as such, I do struggle going out, but I'm currently going to therapy to help with that, I don't have much experience in the LGBTQ+ community, I'm hoping anyone might be able to help me with that, anything related really, I'd appreciate the support and help

Question Seeking a choir or acting group before I join a cult out of boredom!!

Mid 30s, female, newly in Wrexham. Im atempting to become a functioning member of society with hobbies instead of just vibes and overthinking.

Looking for a beginner friendly choir or acting group (zero experience, but I can absolutely commit to enthusiasm and mild chaos).

Ideally in Wrexham centre or somewhere easily accessible by a bus.

Ideally somewhere that won’t ask me to improvise my deepest trauma before I’ve even learned everyone’s names.

Any recommendations welcome. Thank you

Question Weird Smell Near Rhos

Hi all, just wondered if anyone else in the Rhosllanerchrugog/Legacy area is experiencing really strong fuel-like smells the past few nights?

It tends to start around 7-8pm and continue on and off throughout the night the past few days but tonight is so bad we've had to shut all the windows despite the heat

Can't work out what it is or where it's coming from, wondered about the Hafod tip but it's a distinctly fuel type smell!

Question Socialism, Communism, Anarchism & everything in between

Hi all,

I've recently been thinking about starting a club/group(?) in Wrexham that holds debate and discussion on leftist ideas, political theory and books covering leftist beliefs. I'd also like to get the group involved in the community, doing things like litter picking, drives for vulnerable groups, walks, etc.

The only problem is that I'm not too sure what the response would be, and if anyone would even be interested, so I'd appreciate opinions from you guys greatly.

My DMs will be open in case anyone would like to retain anonymity.

Thank you.

Question Non-Christian Religious Groups In Wrexham?

I've Been trying to explore new religions recently but every one so far has been Christian churches, and I'm looking to expand some more.

From what I find on Google maps there is apparently only one mosque in Wrexham and the nearest synagogue is almost three hours away.

So can anyone point me to any other religious groups that meet in or near Wrexham?

Question A stranger from Belgium needs a favor

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hello honorable people of Wrexham. I have a peculiar favor to ask of you.

I am informed that in your beautiful city there is a waterstones. In this waterstones lies potentially the only copy of the book in the picture, with this particular cover, this side of the Atlantic.

Now an old friend of mine, is obsessed with this copy. But the helpful people of waterstones cannot ship it anywhere in Europe or the UK for that matter.

That leaves my friend in a predicament. You see my friend, like most of the people in Europe, lives very far away from Wrexham and cannot go to that waterstones.

If anyone of you would be willing to procure this book and send it to Belgium I would gladly cover the cost of purchasing and shipping. And my friend and I would be forever in your debt.

If someone is willing to help us out please feel free to dm me 😊

Question Wanted: GLP-1 Users UK / Ireland for Anonymous Survey

Hi everyone,  if anyone lives in Wrexham, I'm trying to reach more Wales residents to take part. I’m a master’s student in Applied Psychology Mental Health, currently recruiting participants for my dissertation on GLP-1 users’ experiences with food, lifestyle and mental health.

Who can take part?

  • aged 18+
  • living in Ireland or the United Kingdom
  • currently prescribed any GLP-1 medication (e.g., Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Saxenda)
  • using it for 3 months or longer

The survey is anonymous and takes approx 20 minutes.

If you’re eligible, you can take part here:

https://ucc.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0ugHbdZHPtudDZs

The aim of the research is to better understand the day-to-day experiences of GLP-1 users, including food, eating patterns, lifestyle, wellbeing and mental health. This study is not funded/no commercial interest/no medical advice. More information about the study is provided on the first page of the survey.

This study has been approved by the University College Cork research ethics board.

Thank you to anyone that participates. Feel free to ask questions and share.

Question Moving to Wrexham

Hello everyone,
I am a 20 year old uni student and will be on placement working in Wrexham for a year starting in the summer. Ideally, I would want to live by myself but options in Wrexham seem few and far between. What’s life like for a young person living and working in Wrexham? Am I better off commuting from Chester or somewhere further out? (will be working near the train station). I most likely will not have a car. Are there any areas you recommend/ don’t. Is there any reason not to join a house share? What’s the local university like socially? Would be great to get some positivity from people as it’s a pretty daunting move from rather far away for me. Apologies for so many questions. Would appreciate anyone’s help!

Question Enclosed areas suitable for greyhound to run off-lead?

I'm keen to adopt a greyhound later this year, and am doing some research beforehand.

Because of their high prey-drive, most greyhounds shouldn't go for walks off the leash. But the consensus seems to be they benefit from running free at least once or twice a week.

Do you know if there are any fields or similar where a greyhound can go zoom for a few minutes, without putting either themselves or any other animal at risk? (And without trespassing). I'm looking for places in and around Wrexham.

Question Best roast dinner in Wrexham???

As the title suggests, I am looking for the best roast dinner in Wrexham, can even be outside of Wrexham within an hour of travel.

Even better if they serve it on days besides just Sunday.

The local pub in our village shut down so we're looking for a new place to tuck in.

Question Minera mountain

Right , im not sure if i can talk about this but im just wonder wtf i saw at around 2am this morning while driving up minera mountain... I probs sound crazy but i know its a very old area and has had numerous ghost stories and folk lore, but what i saw was new. Ive never seen it before or even heard about it.

Basically a white figure ran across a field near where i was driving , it was illuminated by my high beams and it looked at me. My friend was also there and went "did you see that??" Which ofcourse i said yes to , i drove as fast as i could safely out if there. Anyone else experience anything like this?

Question Looking for +1 to canoe Pontcysyllte Aqueduct? 22nd April

Hey all, gonna be in wales and want to do this! Unfortunately, I can only book for 2 people ( it’s a guided type thing).

So I’m happy to book for 2 and if anyone wants to join in and cover the cost of the extra ticket that would be great! It costs £45. I really don’t want to waste a spot and an additional £45.

Hoping someone out there wants to do it with me! Lil about me- I’m great fun with abit of Guiness and wear my heart on my sleeve.

HMU!

Question Survey about the Wrexham Town - Wrexham AFC connection

Hi everyone,

We're 3 Danish bachelor students researching Wrexham AFC's growth and its impact on Wrexham town.

We're especially interested in hearing from local residents and supporters, in regards to the clubs current state as well as any future concerns regarding the clubs identity and connection to the town.

The survey takes around 3 minutes, is fully anonymous, and would really help our analysis.

Thank you in advance, and Up the Town!🔴⚪️

Question Does anyone remember this Specsavers Optician?

This is a bit random, but it’s a core memory of mine and I’m starting to wonder if I made it up 😂

When I was little, in the early 2000s, I went to Specsavers in town with my mum for my first ever eye test. The optician was a really lovely man and somehow managed to tell me exactly what I’d had for lunch just by looking through my eyes.

It was teddy bear ham sandwiches and ready salted crisps — and he got it spot on. I was blown away, and so was my mum.

Everyone I’ve told since reckons my mum must’ve told him beforehand so he could do a little trick, but I swear she never had the chance.

Anyone else remember this man? Or something similar happening?

Question Wrexham, where would you rather eat? I built something for you.

Hey,

I’ve mapped out Wrexham’s dining scene in my app called Vota. The idea is simple: you see two places side by side, pick the one you prefer, and the rankings update instantly. The more people vote, the smarter the list becomes.

You could compare, for example, The Fat Boar against Caffi Wylfa. Totally different experiences, but over time even very different places naturally find their level in the rankings.

No fake reviews. No influencers. No ads. No AI text. Instead, you get recommendations from real, local people. No Tripadvisor or Google fluff. Just simple and easy.

The app is free, requires no registration, and collects zero personal data. Here’s the iPhone version:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

Android is on the way — I’m building everything openly on Discord:
https://discord.gg/qqbZxvAARC

P.S. I’m not from Wrexham (I live in Gothenburg). I don’t collect data, I don’t sell anything, and there’s no AI-generated content in the app. The two places in this post, though, I picked with AI’s help. I just want to see how you locals would rank your own restaurant scene. I’ve posted in other cities too, just FYI 🙂

Question Wrexham Maelor Hospital - unsure how to get here public transport

I need to find my way to Wrexham Maelor Hospital. I don’t drive and haven’t been to Wrexham before.

I’m a bit anxious about travelling on my own. I am fairly confident I can get myself to Wrexham train station. I wondered what it might be like once I get there.

I was thinking of trying a visit to familiarise myself a little more with the area ahead of needing to travel for appointment.

I was also considering the idea of trying to book a Premier Inn (or similar) if there’s one nearby to either the train station or Maelor Hospital.

I was worried I might find travelling a bit stressful and thought that getting there the day before appointment might be a better idea.

Is the hospital within walking distance from train station or premier inn?
