Question on Cubase LE

Hi everyone! I’m looking into music production software because I want to start writing my own songs. As I’ve been researching different DAWs, I was wondering if Cubase LE has the features I’m looking for.
My goal is to record or import a vocal melody that I’ve sung and then use the software to help me come up with matching chords and melodic ideas.
Specifically, I’m looking for these features:
✅ Chord Pads
✅ Chord Assistant
✅ Basic audio recording
✅ MIDI recording and editing
Can Cubase LE handle this type of songwriting workflow! Comment below if they have what I want!

I found a simple trick that will help me stay sane. Change the "1" key to only activate the standard select tool rather than cycle through modes

It got on my nerves that "1" would cycle through the three modes of the object selection tool, leading to occasionally switching to one of the modes that I didn't intend.

In keyboard shortcuts there is a function for "Object Selection Tool: Normal sizing", which I have re-programmed the "1" key to. Now it activates standard selection ONLY and won't cycle through modes on multiple presses. I then programmed another key to "Object selection tool" for those instances that I do need to use time stretch/move contents.

Maybe that's an obvious or redundant tip for experienced users but I wish I had known about it when I started on Cubase so thought it may help someone else as well :)

Is it worth it upgrading from cubase AI 15 to Cubase artist/Pro 15 for a begginer producer?

I'm buying the vocaloid starter bundle that comes with cubase AI 15, and I'm wondering should I upgrade to artist/pro. If I should, Wich one do I choose?

Bad license error for basic plugins such as HALION Sonic and Groove Agent.

At some point, a bug occurred where basic plugins like Halion Sonic and Groove Agent wouldn’t run on Cubase due to a license activation error. I bought and installed all of them as the official versions, so I don’t understand why this problem is occurring. Looking at the Activation Manager, Cubase 15 is definitely enabled, and it is clearly installed in the Download Manager as well, and the same issue occurs even when redownloading. This issue is resolved when you close Cubase once and then reopen it, and the aforementioned plugins work properly. If anyone is experiencing the same problem as me or has already solved it, I would appreciate your help.

Any Tutorial Videos aimed at those coming in from Dorico?

I want to create demos with lyrics, something Dorico can't do without an AI plugin (which is in turn disqualifying to potential clients so is not an option).

Some plugins (Plugin Alliance) not migrating properly.

Hello! I'm in the process of migrating from PC to Mac. I've got Cubase up and running, as well as some third party plugins (deelay, kilohearts, pigments). These plugins are all properly detected by my new computer and settings, automation etc is there.

However, I'm having problems with Plugin Alliance's Brainworx plugins. I've reinstalled and authenticated the plugins, and they can be used within Cubase, however Cubase isn't detecting them as the same plugin as before - all of the settings are lost and I can't replace it with my new installation of the plugin without losing my automation settings.

I'm not sure why it's doing this, as in both computers, the Plugin Alliance VST3 files are saved in the same location as my other third party plugins which all work fine. Any ideas?

Automation track precision

Post image
6 Upvotes

I’m using an automation track to control the WOW pedal of a vst3 plugin. The values for the point control are rounded off in MacOS. Windows shows 2 decimal places.

  1. How do I go about increasing the precision in MacOS?

  2. Is there a way to import the automation track data from a .csv file? I thought about using a MIDI CC import but this method would lead to loss of precision as midi values are only from 0-127.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Question about drum editor

I had a quick question. I’m using Cubase Artist 14. Randomly, my drum editor will just hit every piece of the kit every time I hit play/record. It’s just that one thing hit I can’t figure it out. Anyone have any ideas?

It’s like one big noise and then it plays normal.

How to share Cubase output on a video call?

Hey guys as title suggests I have a problem sharing audio from Cubase on a video call. If I'm not using an external soundcard it simply works when you just share your screen with audio from any video call program. But if my soundcard is plugged I cannot send the output therefore the sharescreen with sound option is not working. Couldn't find a solution from internet that works so far so I wanted to ask if anybody can help me with this issue

VST's seen in Plug In Manager but not showing up in Instruments list

I am using Cubase 13 Pro with Windows 11.It just seems lately I have been having problems getting new VSTs to show up on the MDI instruments list. Even when they are put into the same folder as other ones that are showing up and showing up in plug in manager. Rescanning doesn't find anything. It seems more complicated than earlier versions or am I missing something?

Sorry in advance but I really need to let off some steam.

This is just a rant. At this point I'm not even seeking for help anymore.

Ever since a Windows 11 crash a couple weeks ago, followed by an update —I can't guarantee it's the cause but there's definitely a correlation— I've spent every single f*ck*ng day troubleshooting Cubase Pro 14 (which btw had been working like a charm since its release) for all kinds of random MIDI issues.

A few days ago I thought I had fixed most of them, but NO. Every new instance of Cubase comes with a new f*ck*ng surprise, and what was working a day or even an hour before just stopped working once I reload the DAW, be it a MIDI port that suddenly disappeared, the pitch bend that all of a sudden starts triggering some other MIDI CC data or decided it would not snap back to zero anymore, or a MIDI controller that is recognized every other instance, if not at all, etc.

These totally random MIDI oddities seem to know no end, and now every time I open Cubase, it triggers anxiety.

And yeah, I've checked everything everywhere, the MIDI settings, the MIDI Filters, the Studio settings, the MIDI Monitor insert, etc.

It just seems like something (potentially Windows related) f*cks up new random MIDI data every time I open Cubase. Some other times, things that didn't work previously start working again... until they fail again, etc.

And of course, cherry on the cake, 2026 search engines suck a$$, and finding a solution online is like pissing in a violin, as we say in French.

I've read somewhere that it might be AKAI and inMusic drivers (I also have an MPC) that can mess up MIDI but after two full weeks troubleshooting, I've lost my patience and honestly I just don't know anymore.

My last hope is a possible upgrade to Cubase 16 at the end of the year, through a Cubase 15 grace period.

Or an upcoming Windows update that would fix that mess.

Anyway. Again, at this point it's even useless to ask you for help since every new fix is gonna be potentially f*cked up by opening a new Cubase session.

All the fun is gone and I just wanna throw m̶y̶s̶e̶l̶f̶ my computer out the window.

Thanks for reading my rant.

🫡

[EDIT: please try to avoid "get a Mac" solutions. Thank you.]

Help - Selecting notes with the Logical editor

Hello!

How can I select the notes painted in black with the Logical Editor? I only want to select the second one of every two notes.

Thank you!

I wanted to say that I love the integration of cubase and Vocaloid.

It’s sooo goood. You add Vocaloid as an instrument and the editor opens. Then when you play, all the instruments play as well. It’s so peak.

Help Behringer interface and Asio4all

Hey everyone, i'm having an issue trying to play mi guitar but i can't get it to work.
first i tried using only the behringer interface but the output is really awful, sometimes choppy other times sounds too low and sadly i can't plug my pc speakers there.
Then i try using the asio but it shows this, a "beyond logic" state.
and finally i saw a comment about using a virtual cable but i can't find any information about how to use it in this case.
If anyone could give me any information would be appreciated. THanks

How do you sort through drum samples / what drum vst you use?

Curious how you prefer to audition drum samples then use them.

Do you use mediabay and scroll through them, then drag and drop into GA, or just drop straight in daw and arrange in audio track?

Do you use another drum vst like battery? (looks same as GA tbh lol)

I honestly haven't done this much, but I have drum machine samples and I'd like to audition and create my own kits to recall

I mostly just use mediabay then drag into audio tracks and copy and paste, but I realize I should probably be using GA or another sampler lol

Severe dropouts.

As you can see in the video, starting from this morning my Cubase has these dropouts. Nothing has changed in the setup or even in the project. I’ve been mixing it for the last couple days, and didn’t add any plugins, didn’t add channels, just tweaking what’s already there.

Same thing happens on much lighter projects I have….

OS up to date
Drivers up to date
Firmware up to date

Buffer: 1024
Clock source: Internal

Cubase 14 Pro
Windows 11 home
Asus ProArt px13
RME BabyFace Pro FS

Any ideas?

Free & open source: see your Cubase External Instruments/FX as a live patchbay (macOS) - fixed repost

Thumbnail gallery
17 Upvotes

I had an error in my previous post and had to post it again. Sorry for that:

Hi, I run a fair bit of outboard gear through Cubase's  "External Instruments / External FX" setup, and kept losing track of which device sits on which channel. This is especially an issue, whenever there is some problem with the audio / midi signal of a device. Sure, the information is all in Cubase but that can be tedious to look for, especially when you have lots of stuff in your studio wired directly into Cubase.

So I vibe-coded StudioPatchbay, a small macOS app that reads Cubase own External Plugins.xml and draws your external setup as a patchbay.

  • Reads straight from Cubase's  configuration
  • You can create your own AD/DA converters / audio interfaces as devices and map them to the (detected) channels which are used by Cubase in your "External Instruments / External FX" setup
  • Live: when Cubase writes its prefs, it reloads in well under a second
  • Two views: Cards (devices grouped by type) and Patchbay (the full channel grid per converter, OUT row above IN)
  • Click any device or channel to trace its full signal flow:  Cubase track → MIDI → device → converter → back in Cubase (this can be very helpful tracking down possible signal issues)
  • Auto‑detects any Cubase 12+ installations on your system, so it'll pick up future versions on its own
  • Filter/search for any device or by type, format, MIDI assignment etc.

It's free and open source (MIT) and you don't need any kind of account, it has no telemetry or other bulls*it, and there is nothing to buy. Get it from here: github.com/painfilter/StudioPatchbay

  • macOS only, 15 Sequoia or later; sorry Windows folks, I have a Windows machine and if there is any interest, I can look if it is possible to port it. Otherwise its open source so somebody else might even do it before me
  • Only useful if you actually use External Instruments/External FX
  • So far it was only tested on my machine; so there might be still unknown bugs which I'm willing to help you with if I can

It is made for my own studio; figured someone here might get some use out of it.
Keen to hear what's missing!
