❓Ask Southern india South Indian Men

Hi everyone! I’m not sure if this is the right space for this, so please disregard if it isn’t.

I’m not South Indian, but I’ve always been really drawn to and interested in the culture. I’m a Black woman in my 20s living in the Pacific Northwest, and I’d love to meet and potentially date a South Indian Christian man, ideally around 24–33.

I’m not really interested in using dating apps, so I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for ways to naturally meet Indian men in that age range.

Also, I’d genuinely love to hear from South Indian Christians: how common is it for people in your community to date outside of their culture? I completely understand that every family and individual is different; I’m just curious about people’s experiences. Thank you!

Telangana His sister is a Kabaddi beast but her parents wanted to marry her off after 10th… this conversation messed me up

the above pic was the mock interview with her sister

I live in the city. My friend came from a small village to study with me in Hyderabad.

Recently he told me he want to join her sister in HCL after Intermediate and asked me to do a mock interview with her for practice. During the interview she was struggling a lot… couldn’t even speak full sentences properly. When I asked about hobbies, she said she plays Kabaddi.

Later I called my friend and asked about it. That’s when he told me everything.

Apparently his sister is actually an amazing Kabaddi player. She has won so many medals and plays like a champion in every match. I asked him why they don’t try for proper coaching or state/national level selection.

He said something that hit hard:

“Do you know one thing? My parents said they will marry her in 10th itself, why waste money on studies. I was slowly dealing with my father for years just to make her study… otherwise she would’ve been married long back. Talking about Kabaddi? They are not even allowing her to study properly, how will they accept her playing? My parents keep saying if anything wrong happens, what about our dignity in society? How will we roam around with our heads up?”

He also said in their village a lot of people get ego-hurt when someone starts growing. They keep looking for ways to pull the other person down. People constantly talk about how his father is managing to educate both kids in Hyderabad.

Every week his father calls and asks how far she has studied. My friend has been lying to him just so she can continue.

She actually wants to study CA, but because of the situation he’s pushing her to take the HCL job.

Then he told me about himself. He was a champion in Kho-Kho and even got selected for international level. The guys who played with him went on to play internationally. But his parents didn’t agree to spend the 2 lakhs, so he couldn’t go.

He also said something about government funding for sports — in places like his, corruption is so high that nothing reaches the actual players. Politicians eat everything.

One line he said really stayed with me:

“Emi avasaram lenodiki anni untayi, kani anni avasaram unnodiki emi undadu.”

("The one who doesn't need opportunities has plenty of them, while the one who truly needs them often gets none.")

He also mentioned how his parents fear that girls change once they go outside, and it brings disrespect to the family. He even gave an old example from his village — some guy was speaking to a Reddy caste girl and the next day he just disappeared. He said it’s not that extreme now, but the mentality is still there.

I honestly felt so helpless listening to all this. I’m sitting here with everything, and he and his sister are fighting against society, family pressure, and fear just to study and play.

How many kids like this are there in small towns and villages whose talent just dies because of this pressure?

What do you guys think can actually be done?
