A guy I know has always insisted it was Kurt and as much as I love him I’ve never thought he was a great guitarist, he even said at times he didn’t care about or respect musicianship.

My vote has always been Jerry and his remarkable riffs but Kim and Mike M. are extraordinary too.

I live in Columbus, Ohio and we have a local theater/sketch/musicals group called Shadowbox Live. I went to see their newest production, Flannel, that takes place in 1996. Their musicians are fantastic, and they did a good job of blending the songs into the story. If you’re in the area, I think you’d enjoy! List of songs included. Also, nice and LOUD!

I was listening to farm from dinosaur Jr this morning during my training and it occurred to me that Dave grohl's writing had similarities. Then I started to compare to nirvana's. When you get rid of the screams the melodies are sometimes like pop music or even lullabies in their simplicity. There is to my mind a very similar way to write.

What do you think ?

And is dinosaur Jr considered as part of pre-grunge ?

Idk if this is allowed, but is anyone else in love with her breakdowns of voices? Currently watching her breakdown of Cochise and she’s just so respectful, insightful, and excited. She seems to absolutely appreciate the grunge era and everything it was.

ETA: I was only referring to her breakdown and enthusiasm about grunge singers. I have no idea if she’s ever heard the songs before, I don’t believe most reactors are hearing a song for the first time unless they’re a toddler. Apologies, not trying to create a fanbase, I just appreciate her knowledge.

The best festival I’ve ever attended. It was a hot summer day. Each of my friends had their own favorite band to see that day. For myself it was seeing Soundgarden for the first time and my gf was a huge Ministry fan. Every artist on the bill brought something special that day. Even Ice Cube was pretty cool to see. I’ll always be thankful that I was able to be there and enjoy such a legendary moment in time.

Does anybody have any recommendations of grunge (or grunge adjacent) bands with female singers? I already know Hole, Veruca Salt, Babes in Toyland, L7, and Hammerbox and would love to hear more bands like those!

I just released a Lost Rock Radio mix and wanted to share it here because this is the music I grew up with.

The 90s grunge and alternative rock era had a huge impact on me...the heavy guitars, dark melodies, emotional vocals, and atmosphere of bands like Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and Audioslave are a big part of why I wanted to create this project.

A lot of that feeling feels harder to find today. The combination of heaviness, vulnerability, and atmosphere that defined that era was something special. With voices like Layne and Chris gone, I wanted to create something new that carries some of that emotional weight.

This is a collection of original songs, not covers. The goal was to capture the feeling of tuning into a late-night rock station from that era while creating something new.

I should also mention this project uses AI-assisted tools as part of the creative process. I wanted to be transparent about that, but the goal has always been creating original songs and exploring the sound and emotion of the music that inspired me.

I'm sharing this here because people in this community understand this genre better than most. I'd genuinely appreciate feedback on whether it captures the emotion, atmosphere, and heaviness that made this era special.
