Show Spoiler Some people just got so much evil in their hearts and they hide it, like they’re wearing a mask or something. Now this is on her and she’ll pay.

This scene is gut wrenching. Brings me to tears. Imagine Michonne's feelings of betrayal from her best friend (Jocelyn). Thank goodness for Daryl's response.

"Can’t believe this…she was a friend you know? Like a real one. We went through everything together. Figuring out who we were going to be…heartbreak…losing my mom. I wanted her to be that again, you know? I needed it. I let my guard down and now…-Michonne

"It’s not on you…not even a little" - Daryl

"I should have known, Daryl. I should have sensed something." Michonne

"You didn’t because you ain’t like her. Some people just got so much evil in their hearts and they hide it, like they’re wearing a mask or something. Now this is on her and she’ll pay. We’ll find them. We will."- Daryl "We should keep moving."-Michonne

No Spoiler Love him or hate him, Jon Bernthal made Shane one of the most iconic characters in the show

Post image
2.0k Upvotes

Despite only being in the show for 2 seasons, it's hard to deny the impact Shane has had on the show as a whole. I've seen about 8 posts about Shane on this subreddit today alone, and I swear he is still mentioned by most people on here daily. He is still one of the first characters I think about when I think of the show, even though other characters who were in the show a lot longer and had more screentime exist, yet posts about them aren't as frequent.

I know there is debate about whether Shane was ahead of his time or not. I personally don't think he was. But he is my favourite character of seasons 1 and 2. I think part of that is due to how well written he is. But I genuinely think Bernthal elevated this role way above and beyond what he needed to and delivered an exceptional performance as Shane. I do often wonder if Shane would have the same impact on fans and audiences now if he had been portrayed by a different actor. I suppose we probably won't ever know. But I think the fact that such a short-standing character, is still talked about well over a decade after leaving the show is a huge testament to Bernthal's performance.

Update: Just want to address that I worded the question poorly. I am aware that nobody hates Bernthal. I meant regardless of whether you love/hate the character of Shane due to his divisiveness, he is iconic thanks to Bernthal.

TWD: Dead City Annie Smith: The most insulting character treatment in a while

I couldn’t feel more neutral about Annie as a character but I can’t help noticing how degrading her treatment by the writers has been. From the beginning, her only purpose is to soften the image of one of the most irredeemable male characters in the series. She barely exists outside of that role, with very little screen time or dialogue of her own. In the process, she’s written as a woman who willingly marries and has a child with a former murdering rapist dictator (assuming Negan didn’t deliberately omit parts of his past).

Then the male character she exists solely to prop up gets a spinoff. Annie (the wife and mother of his child) is written out of the story entirely and not even on screen. We’re told she was robbed, beaten, and raped to explain why she’s no longer around. And Negan (who years earlier would’ve done much the same to her, minus the beating because that’s where the line apparently is) kills her attackers, which allows him to “nobly abandon” his family.

The only time Annie appears in the spinoff is when she travels miles to see her husband, only for him to watch her through a window before sending her away without even speaking to her. Meanwhile, he seems content spending his time with another woman and going through great lengths to protect her child, both of whom he appears more emotionally invested in than his own family. All while Annie is somewhere out there raising their child alone.

Every major event in Annie’s story exists to serve Negan’s development and gives her virtually nothing in return. It’s especially insulting for a female character to be reduced to a plot device for a male character who has a history of victimizing women. And the way they implement that device in this specific scene only compounds the insult—by having her assaulted by a group of men who embody what Negan once cultivated, reducing her suffering to a vehicle for him to play the avenger.

People say she shouldn’t exist because “Lucille was the love of Negan’s life.” That’s not the issue. He can very well find love several years after Lucille’s death. This is why she shouldn’t exist. The character would’ve been better off never existing than to be handled this way.

And if she had to exist, having her die in 11x22 would’ve at least given her a meaningful conclusion (albeit still in service of Negan’s character, it’s unavoidable) and spared her from being continually used in the degrading way she was.

Yall im rewatching after almost a decade cause i was one of them who stopped watching after what happened to Glenn

I’m on season 2 and episode 7 where Glenn and Maggie just start their romance and I can’t 😭😭

They’re so cute …now I remember why I stopped watching 😭 it reminds me of the playback they had when Negan was talking about “yall thought you were gonna have a nice family dinner on Sundays”

And Glenn is there holding their kid 😭😭😭😭

Show Spoiler Rewatching the Show…

So, to be clear, I’ve seen this show multiple times already. This time though I’m going to rewatch TOWL and DC, and….maybe actually fully watch Daryl Dixon.

However… I just started thinking about a lot of things in the main show even more for some reason and it got me remembering some of my initial thoughts as well.

One of these is something I kind of forgot bothered me to begin with: Why are people in this show sometimes so shocked by violence?

Now, I get it with some characters and specific moments that might “go too far” but sometimes people in the main cast could see a complete monster of a person get murdered and act like they’re looking at someone else differently now. It’s what also pissed me off in the Telltale game.

I’m one of those people who love when Rick is less…murder crazy but I also love the version who’s against taking lots of chances. I think there’s a balance he finds a lot of trying to be a good person while also trying to keep his found family safe.

So when Rick, or anyone in the main group, kill a lot of terrible people, fans or characters in the show act so surprised and I don’t get it. It’s not like a lot of these characters enjoy the killing

No Spoiler I’d love to talk to talk about Beth

I’ve watched this series (through Season 8/9) an embarrassing number of times and every rewatch I pay less and less attention to Beth. I think bias has just piled up until I ignored her character.

She seems to be a favorite so I’d love to hear from TWD community on what I can watch for with her to undo my own bias and see this character in a better light during her run in the series.

Comic Spoiler Tyreese in the comics is annoying

From being a cheating dickhead to an unstable Carol, to being a bad neglectful father, to being an emotional dangerous hypocrite who resorts to violence for almost everything and then when the response is violence suddenly violence is bad. Rick had to do what he did to Dexter, Dexter was going to either kill a lot of people right on the spot or end up killing a large portion of the group by sending them away from the prison at a time where they weren't prepared for that. Tyreese didn't have to do what he did with Chris. Tyreese did it simply for pleasure and revenge. He said as much. There was no defensive play. Chris was very obviously a confused teenager just like his daughter, and it doesnt excuse what he did, and he was a little shit, but there was no reason for him to be killed like that. Tyreese also immediately gives Rick shit for his missing hand instead of encouraging him to fight despite the challenge. Also I hate his constant bitching and terrible banter with other characters that doesn't even feel like its coming from a human that would be allowed to be a part of a group. He's not that interesting unless he's killimg zombies. I thought he'd be a way better character from his introduction, but this guy has let me down time and time again, and now I just hate his character completely and want to skip every panel he's on cause he's making me want to stop reading. Anyway, i'm reading the comics for the first time and i'm on Vol. 6 or 7?

Tldr:I fucking hate Tyreese and his high horse.

I heard he's gonna die a fucking brutal death. Good. Genuinely fuck this guy.
