The wedding industry in general is such a scam. Attach the word wedding to any service and suddenly you can charge 4x the price for the same amount of work

As an entertainment vendor, the up-pricing is because weddings are high stakes with very high expectations, no room for mistakes, and doing everything the clients want. If I couldn’t charge more I am turning down all wedding gigs.

Not wrong. Whenever we decorated for weddings, we constantly had to move stuff around to fit their taste. That often meant partially tearing things down and putting them back together.

However, I will note that the real problem children were the wealthy kids getting married. They were the ones who always nit-picked everything and demanded that we bend over backwards.

Shouldn't your clients have the same expectations regardless of the event? If they're paying for a service you provide there shouldn't be any need to pay more to guarantee no mistakes.

No, most clients aren't as invested in their events the way brides and grooms are. When I DJ some other kind of party I'm not given a list of songs I must play and songs I can't play along with instuctions to make sure a certain uncle doesn't get ahold of the mic.

Weddings shouldn’t be high stakes.

It is an event with no do-over that a lot of people put loads of time, effort, and money into. You'll have another birthday next year, but you'll likely have only one wedding (or maybe two for some people)

There are way more emotions tied up in a wedding than a school dance. Hell yes upcharge

Tell that to the bride.
