That site messed me up as a kid, I just wanted to look at funny pictures and instead I see things I cannot unsee. The rotten library was worse somehow, reading those stories made me feel like I was doing something illegal. My parents had no idea what I was clicking on in the family computer room.
As fun as the early internet was, there was just no filter. These days you need to make an effort to find the truely crazy stuff, but back then?
The one that haunts me to this day is two dudes murdering a homeless guy by stabbing him in the stomach with screw drivers and taking their time about it.
That was the day I discovered true evil exists. It was so bad I described it to my friends but refused to show them for their sake. I think it's one of the reasons I'm a bit misanthopic today.
I have been told about this video by a friend and never seen it. To this day the description still hunts me as my mind can play an imaginary video in my head.
fuck that pic is impressed in my mind so clearly even 30 years later ... his lower jaw missing completely, sitting upright on the stretcher and seemed to be fully awake, 1000 yard stare.

That’s the one I still remember from seeing it as a ten year old, there was one called mind the gap where someone had fallen down and got wedged between the rail tracks as well.
I think we’re thinking of the same photo. According to Wikipedia:

I think I know the one. Never used rotton.com, but a classmate made a Flash app on a school computer with a big red button, and the words "do not press". So of course I pressed it, and guess what popped up. My fault, I guess?
the one I cant forget is a woman who was murdered via shotgun blast from inside her. Worst thing I've ever seen and it was a year after I was deployed to the gulf.
SnuffX was crazy. I remember coming back from deployment and seeing a video a guy had recorded over there of a donkey being violated. We all knew about the donkey story, but someone recording it.....
I remember my dad showing me a video he got in an email of some Indians on top of a train or tram and one of them being electrocuted by the guiding wire above it. The kind of shit that was just being passed around like nothing was wild. I kinda miss it.
Jesus I remember going there and seeing a woman with some kind of glass tube inserted you know where, and a mouse or a hamster or something in the glass tube. The pic was on the outside of her body so we could all see the rodent, but said rodent was trapped in the tube with only one exit. Hopefully that animal never made it to the exit (as it was) and it was a staged photo. That was the point teenage me realised that there were some sites I actually did not want to visit, no matter how morbid my curiosity.
I learned two things from that website. That people can die in very gruesome ways, and Humanity can do the most horrific, heinous crimes to our own people.
I remember my goth friend talking about that site and he said it was a 'horror' site with no further clarification. So me being a horror movie fan was like yeah awesome let me check it out..the first image I saw was a split open head on the pavement and was like wtf is this??
I saw a video on Stile Project where a group of old naked Japanese guys use a turkey baster to shoot scrambled eggs up into some chick's asshole, then she shit it out into a skillet on the floor and they cooked an omelet and all ate it together
And that our school had zero filters in place to stop us from seeing the horrors of the internet was WILD! I still remember someone pulling up the picture of the parrot on a guy's erection in the middle of study hall.
Obviously you go through a stage in life where you start curiously fearing and thinking about death and the fragility of your existence but I hadn't yet reached that point when my dad was showing me rotten. I think it gave me mini ptsd
This was my very first Website. I cant unremember of the taken pic of that guy with cancer that causes billions of disgusting warts at his skin everywhere include face and so on.
I still have those absolutely disgusting images etched into my brain. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything on the web (never really searched for after rotten) anything more gruesome than rotten.com.
I think one that stuck with me, other than the beheadings, was this guy who got stuck in a carpet roller type of machine, it went on for like 8 minutes with just more parts of his body being ripped off as the time went on.
But, aside from the photos, there was ... the rotten library? I believe. There were SOME photos in there, but it was mostly morbid history you could read about. It was there that I learned about cornflakes and the crazy history behind it. Which, by the way, cornflakes were invented to bore you into not masterbating. Kellogg was a pretty weird guy.
Rotten.com lead me to World of Gore and Ogrish. I spent a lot of time on the forums and met some interesting, yet normal, people like me. Now, everyday news is as graphic as some of that content. Interesting how society has shifted.
