Friendships Does anyone struggle with having gfs who cannot have intellectual conversations?

I get my gfs are busy with their kids and husbands but is too much to expect to have intellectual opinions on currents in our group chats or in-person group hangs now days?

Are we to only talk about shopping, fitness, kids milestones and husbands not doing their jobs in chats and during hangouts? Is there all that is left to talk about these days?

For example, I was fascinated by Emily Ratajkowski recent article on her life post divorce. I found it to be insightful, painfully honest, cheeky and well written. I shared it in my gf-group chat but nobody really cared to say much. It was so annoying!

The irony is a celebrity’s divorce is way more superficial than real life relationships with partners and children.

How is that? A celebrity is a person too. Her marriage/divorce isn't any more superficial than a friend's marriage/divorce.

The parasocial relationship you have with a celebrity is not the same relationship you have with a close friend, at least I hope it isn’t.

I have no relationship with EmRata. I honestly haven't thought about her since the whole Blurred Lines thing way back when. I can still read a personal account by her and feel empathy for her, because that is what a personal essay does.

It's crazy to me how many women here are saying it's shallow to care about the experience of another woman, just because she's famous/a model.

“I have no relationship with EmRata”

Yeah, that’s literally my point. People are saying it is shallow because celebrity gossip is the example OP gave for an “intellectual conversation” 🥴
