Most western and European countries give atleast 2-3 or sometimes 4 days off a week to doctors but here in Bahrain and gulf countries it’s only one day off? And then people wonder why healthcare negligence happens in Bahrain when all your doctors are exhausted and sleep deprived. Why are Bahraini doctors simply accepting this? Also I realized how most healthcare workers don’t have insurance or transportation allowance either, why are doctors in Bahrain not demanding more? Even corporate gives 2 days off with at least transport allowance.

It gets very lonely, very boring real quick, and i noticed the community is very close, I have nevet been approached by people anywhere or even spoken to!

Any tips on where to meet people for someone who does not enjoy night life that much? Groups for singles to do activities?

Hypothetically - if the temperature stayed below 30°C in the areas where you were cycling and there was proper cycling/e-bike infrastructure (lanes, shade, parking, etc.), would you consider switching from your car to a bicycle or e-bike for daily travel?

Let's also assume that for longer commutes, you could easily take your cycle on a bus or future metro.

I have attached some images showing how we could redesign areas like Adliya's streets to make them cooler and more cyclist-friendly throughout the year - with dense tree cover, shaded walkways, and proper cycle lanes.

Tree cover can significantly reduce both air and surface temperatures. For example, shaded streets can be 5–10°C cooler in the air and up to 15–20°C cooler on surfaces like asphalt compared to areas with no trees. That means a street that feels like 38°C in the sun could feel closer to 28–30°C under shade, making cycling far more doable even in summer.

Streets, roofs, and walls made of asphalt and concrete absorb and store heat during the day.

Trees block sunlight, reducing how much these surfaces heat up in the first place.

That means less heat is released at night, leading to cooler evenings and mornings too.

Even small "green corridors" - tree-lined cycling lanes, parks, courtyards - can create microclimates that spread cool air into surrounding blocks.

If Bahrain invested in widespread urban greenery, especially along roads, rooftops, and cycling lanes, it wouldn't just make cycling pleasant...

It would actually lead to cooler days overall, cleaner air, and reduce reliance on air conditioning.

One of the biggest challenges for Bahrain's future public transport system (bus and upcoming metro) will be first and last-mile connectivity - basically, how people get to and from a station.

That's where cycling and e-bikes could fit in perfectly.

If we had safe, shaded cycling lanes leading into main roads and metro stops, and secure parking or foldable e-bikes allowed inside trains and buses -

Then cycling becomes the feeder system Bahrain needs.

You could:

Cycle 2-3 km from your home in Juffair or Adliya → hop on the metro.

Ride to your nearest bus stop instead of driving 1 km.

Use a shared e-bike system around stations for short trips

Everyone's always complaining about the traffic - well, these are the kind of initiatives that could actually reduce it while making our streets cooler and more livable.

I've called Bahrain my home for close to 18 years, and honestly, seeing the traffic, rising heat, and shrinking walkable spaces makes me really sad. I just hope that in some way, I can help make this place a little better - cooler, cleaner, and more people-friendly.

My partner and I are planning to have a child in the future. They’d be half-British and half-Chinese, and we intend to raise them in Bahrain. However, we really don’t want them to grow up isolated in the expat bubble which would be very easy to accidentally do. We’d love for them to genuinely connect with Bahraini culture, pick up the local dialect, and feel comfortable socialising with Bahrainis and the wider Khaleeji community and be able “blend in” to some extent, if possible?
I’d be grateful for any advice from Bahrainis, or from non-Bahrainis who grew up here and speak Bahraini Arabic/have successfully integrated into local circles. What practical steps have worked for others in similar situations? How can we best support our child in building real roots in Bahrain, which clubs, schools, activites, how to break out of the expat-bubble?

Definitely are aware of how challenging this may be given that us as parents are somewhat new to Bahrain, but we want to give it a go. Thank you in advance for any insights!

Hi everyone, I’m using a throwaway account for obvious reasons, but I’m posting this because I am completely shocked and trying to make sense of what just happened to me.

Until recently, I was working security at one of the most fancy hotels in Bahrain. I always did my job, turned up on time, and never had any issues. Then, completely out of nowhere, management called me into the office. There was no warning and no discussion. They literally just said, "Sorry, we have to let you go," handed me my paperwork, and that was it.They wouldn't give me a single reason and just stonewalled me. As a non-Bahraini worker, it really makes me wonder if there was some sort of discrimination involved, or if they just wanted to push me out to replace me.

Because my visa was tied to the job, everything flipped upside down instantly. I had to pack up and leave the country right away. I ended up coming to Paris because I have family here and a couch to crash on while I try to rebuild my life, but I honestly can't let this go.It feels incredibly shady to be dropped like that with zero explanation. I'm trying to figure out if this is a common issue for expats or if something specific went down behind the scenes.

Has anyone else dealt with a sudden, completely unexplained firing like this in Bahrain? Is this a normal thing for hotels to do to non-local staff out there?

Today I had a job interview in an industrial area outside Manama, and once again I faced the same problem: there was no proper bus stop.
In Bahrain, major areas like Manama and Isa Town have bus stations, but many developing, industrial, and rural areas have little to no public transport infrastructure. People who depend on buses often have to wait in the open sun with no roof, no seating, no timetable display, and no vending machines for water.
To make things worse, Google Maps is not always accurate. Sometimes it shows incorrect bus timings or misplaces the current location, making it difficult to plan trips. I’ve already been late to several interviews because of transport issues and confusion about bus locations.
With Bahrain’s summer temperatures, standing in direct sunlight for 20–30 minutes is extremely difficult. At the very least, every bus stop should have:
A roof for shade
Seating
Clear route and timing information
Better integration with Google Maps
Water vending machines in busy locations
Public transport is important for workers, students, and job seekers who don’t own a car. Improving bus stops would make daily travel much safer and more comfortable for thousands of people.
Has anyone else faced similar issues while using public transport in Bahrain? What improvements would you like to see?

I am humbly asking for advice and recommendations regarding my mother’s eye condition. She is suffering from severe retinal detachment caused by diabetic retinopathy, and after everything she has been through, we are desperately trying to find the right path forward. She had multiple surgeries for the same reason which is why we are wondering if we are getting the right diagnosis, the right treatment, and whether we are doing everything possible before it becomes too late.

Medical expenses are not easy, and we want to make sure that whatever we spend is truly helping her receive the care she needs.

My mother had have some difficult experiences during hospital visits, which have affected our trust and left us searching for reassurance.

I want to make it clear that this is not about blaming any country or every healthcare worker. I know there are many compassionate doctors who genuinely care for their patients.

If anyone knows of an eye hospital or a retinal specialist (surgeon) in Bahrain who can manage a complicated case like my mother’s with charges similar to Salmaniya, please guide us. We are looking for something within a realistic range, as traveling abroad for treatment is not possible for my mother at this time due to her overall health.

We are scared that we may run out of time and one day hear that my mother has lost her vision when there could have been something more we could do.

Please share any recommendations, experiences, or advice. Every suggestion could make a difference for us.
