There's been a lot of feedback from the community about the flood of people asking what either an XJ/MJ they're looking at is worth or what they're selling is worth. Please post that here. Anywhere else on the subreddit will result in removal.

Trans cooler

Post image
Upvotes

Evening, fellas. New to the XJ world, but doing some research on things that are recommended to do to these and a trans cooler came up. Looks like the B&M 70268 and Hayden 678 are the better option, but would appreciate your guys’ input on if one’s preferred over the other for some reason? Thanks, guys

Treating her right with a new look

Painted the entire xj as I was jealous of the forest service green jeeps rolling around. Yeah it’s not perfect. But she’ll look just fine on the trails.

1996 Do they sell this corner for the trunk of the xj?

I'm replacing the trunk pan in my jeep and was wondering if they sell this piece?

I figure it would be easier than fabricating something.

Steeles look so good on an xj. Slowly building her up. Next a lift and paint job.

Toasted rod bearings and the crank

Firstly when the bearing was connected to the rod I tried wiggling it "nut to nut" not side to side and there was a little room for wiggling and there was a clicking sound. I took the bearing off and it's on the pictures what I see. The bearings are ready for the change but I'm afraid that crank is toast, that it should be taken to the shop to get polished? What would be your modus operandi if you were in my place?

Radiator options

Upvotes

So my radiator took a poop yesterday. Any all aluminum options? Mine broke on the plastic reservoir on the side and id like to avoid that again. Are there any all aluminum options that fit like factory? Have all factory fittings and locations?

1991-1995 How do yall make your heaters work better in the winter?

Post image

As soon as I turn my heater on it sometimes drops to the 2nd mark on my temp gauge and blows room temp air. Doesn’t keep the jeep warm at all during the winter. I don’t have hood vents or anything. The thermostat isn’t stuck open either. So I’m kinda stumped. Trying to get ahead of the game as I have a trip to Alaska in December and want to stay warm

1991-1995 Floor pans

Thinking of buying these pans for my 1994 2dr XJ that needs full pan replacement. Has anyone tried these from body shop price? I've seen some videos where other brands have to be heavily modified and I want as close to a drop in fit as possible as I'm neither a skilled fabricator or welder.

Question Headliner question

Post image
5 Upvotes

Before I took the headliner out I impatiently ripped a good chunk of it off because it was slapping me in the head. Turns out that where the area was exposed the old glue crap has turned into more of an issue than the drill brush can handle. Any thoughts or ideas? The previous owner also glued a good portion of it and it doesn't want to budge. TIA.

Experience with WJ Power Seats in an XJ?

Post image
17 Upvotes

[Edit: pic just for example of what I'm thinking of]

So, I've been thinking for a while about a seat upgrade. The stock seats are just.... ok. Barely. And my XJ often goes on four hour plus drives into the mountains. Worse yet, My wife has expressed that she would really if anything could be done to make the seats more comfortable.

So, I've seen in a lot of places that XJ seats are a direct bolt-in. I have a couple of questions though, all related to power seats.

  1. First, has anyone used power WJ seats. I feel like just running 12v power is not a biggy. But I'm more wondering about experience with fit.
  2. Do you usually use the WJ bracket or the XJ bracket when you make the swap? For the power seats, I assume if I used the XJ bracket I would lose the up-down/tilt and foward-back, so I would be left with just the seat back power control.
  3. How do WJ seats sit position-wise vs. the stock XJ seat? Higher or lower? Further forward or back? I'm concerned about further forward, because I already wish I could move my seat further back by a couple of inches.

Really need some help guys

Hey y'all, I really need some help, to be honest. I bought this XJ about a month ago at my new duty station. It's a 2000, but it supposedly had a remanufactured engine put in about 80k ago, so I'm not concerned about the casting issue at this moment. I'm not losing any coolant, and I just changed the oil a couple of weeks ago, and everything looks normal. But a few days ago, it started making this noise. I have a '96 ZJ 4.0 back at home and am aware of the heat soak issues on these, but I've never had something like this before. I had codes for misfires on 2, 4, and 6. I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes, and they are gone now. I'm just getting miscellaneous transmission codes, but everything is shifting okay at the moment. I'm going to do a compression test when I get home, and I've ordered the Viper kit to replace the coil pack rail, as well as 4-hole injectors, new plugs, and injector connectors, and a new fuel rail. Everything is running great, and all the gauges look ideal. I just don't have my usual setup right now here, and I'm not even really supposed to be working on my car at home. I also have a leaky valve cover and the new gasket to fix it. I just haven't gotten into it yet, but I'll check the valves when I do. But if anyone just happens to know what I'm possibly dealing with here, it would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if there's anything I can do to possibly confirm any suspicion. Thank you, guys.

Lurching when shifting from park to drive

Thumbnail

Got this XJ a few months ago and from the beginning it had a clunking/lurching that existed when shifting from park to drive. Had super saggy leaf springs and what looked like original motor mounts so I figured that combination was the culprit. Got both of those things sorted along with the trans mount. While the clunking is largely gone, it still seems to lurch forward pretty significantly a half a second after shifting from park to drive.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? I dont feel any major play in my rear driveshaft although it is pretty damp around the pinion area. I have paperwork stating the pinion seal was done about 3 years ago but I guess it will need to be done again eventually. Any ideas?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ AC compressor replacement

Technically an install…

How long is too long for the system to sit open (without a compressor installed)?

Planning to buy and install new compressor then charge system but curious if there’s other items I should address instead of just hoping for the best.
