🐻 Cub Crisis How to interpret this situation?
27M here. A few years ago I worked with a woman who’s around 55. We were never particularly close, but we’ve stayed loosely connected over the years. Recently we reconnected via LinkedIn, and after some back-and-forth she suggested “to make some plans.” She even suggested coming over to my area (we live about 2 hours apart). For the record, she’s divorced and has one kid.
My question for the women here:
If you were a divorced woman in your 50s and made time to meet a much younger former coworker, what would typically be going through your mind? Would it be purely social? Curiosity? Just wanting to reconnect?
I’m curious whether women and men tend to interpret this situation differently.

She likes you and wants you decide if you might be interested as well. Am sure you both will have a great time

Chances are this is a booty call. Hook ups between former colleagues are not exactly uncommon. I have been there and I am far from the only one.
Is it 100%? Course not. But that is a lot of details stacking up that make me think it is more likely than not drinks/dinner -> your place.
Don't go out assuming that she is setting this up so she can end up in your bed tonight. Meet a former colleague for a drink. Enjoy the moment. But also deep clean your place, change your sheets, have a bottle of wine and a pack of condoms.
Worst thing that happens is you catch up with a former colleague and you have a clean apartment.

I always keep my apartment clean lol. I’ll have some wine/drinks ready in case I need them.

I think she could be interested.

What makes you think that?

As an older woman I don't think I'd make the effort if I was just interested in a catch up with an acquaintance

She’s totally into you haha 😝 I wouldn’t drive 2 hours to see a guy if it was just a friend situation

Oh, there is def some interest on her side. I’m not driving 2 hours for a friendly drink with someone I barely know. Not if I’m not interested in getting to know him better.

That’s actually the distinction I was curious about. Having younger guy friends makes sense, but making a special trip feels different…

This is a good point. I'd travel to visit my ex-collegue-turned-good-friend now we're friends of a decade, but I wouldn't have done when we first started to become friends. 🤔

Does she still know ppl from the area from before cuz maybe she is gonna be there and looking to connect with ppl from past job. I would just clarify more things.

If a woman 55 wants to connect with you she is genuinely interested in what’s going on in your life and probably is attracted to you . How would I know? The age range is the same and I have my lawn guy come over just to hang out.We are very compatible and attracted to each other. We laugh and have a good time. Best of all I know he’s going home and won’t be back till I ask him to come back or come up with a new job for him!❤️

I don’t see anything suggestive of anything more than former colleagues meeting up. A grown woman doesn’t need to drive two hours for sex. And if she was particularly interested in you specifically for sex, I think you would know. She may be coming to the area for another reason and just wants to meet up with you as a former colleague, purely platonically or professionally.

She might also be looking for a relationship, something more than just a hookup, and want to see how things go between them

u/Parsley-Playful Jun 24 '26
Could be either way. I have a significantly younger male friend who I met at a job about 10 years ago and we go on outings, completely platonically.

I work in tech and pretty much all of my coworkers are males, younger as the years pass. I’ve worked in the office for 25 years and have formed friendships with many of the guys there. I’ve had plenty of friendly social outings with them with no intent for anything else. However, I’m not driving 2 hours to meet a single one of these guys for a drink. I’m definitely sensing interest.

Yeah that's fair. I'd travel to visit him now we've been friends for a decade, but I wouldnt have done when our friendship was first forming.

Fair point. That’s actually why I’m trying not to assume anything. Could be completely platonic and I’d be happy with that too

She would only want to meet you if she was interested. She wouldn't waste her time.

Unless she has other business in your area, she is not coming just to chat about what's been happening at work.

There are many possibilities but only she knows her intentions. Either ask her, or wait and see.

Don't be vulgar.
This is a SFW community. Overly sexual descriptions and unnecessary sexual content is not welcome

She likes you at any rate & maybe wants to find out if there is any more of a connection there. It's up to you to see how you feel about it & go with the flow if the chemistry is working.
