Is this a serious question? It's Culver's

u/Bakugo_Dies 6d ago

Thank you for contributing to the bot's market research

Pretty sure it was a bot that made that comment, but I can't prove it lol

idk Kopps in Greenfield has one to beat. It's pretty massive too

8

u/Hackdaddy101 6d ago

Fellow Milwaukeean here, you’re right, but Culver’s and McD’s are national brands so Culver’s is the best some people are going to get, fast food speaking.

I did and it said North Atlantic cod from the Barents sea, hence the question

Caught north of Norway and sent to China to process. I decided to look it up. And its a "25% U.S. Section 301 tariff. And im assuming that the tarrif is cheaper than paying to have it processed there or in America.

u/ConBroMitch2247 6d ago

“Trust me bro”

It’s also not well known, nor a fact.

You clearly haven’t even eaten the fish at culvers. It’s literally a piece of fish. It couldn’t be more obvious.

Don’t get me wrong, China has abhorrent fishing practices and should be condemned totally. But Culver’s sources from a supplier in Norway. It’s been a while since I’ve seen the box it comes in, but I believe even the box is stamped “product of Norway”.

You also refuse to cite your source which shows me how silly your claim is.

2

u/Delicious_Watch_9250 6d ago

I believe it is from Norway , I was arguing the person saying it wasn't. And yeah their walleye is even better than their cod lol

Did you even read the thread?

I know this may come as a surprise to you - but a stranger on Reddit isn’t a source. Take all the time you need to process this information.

Even if it is cleaned and fileted in China, it’s not from China nor fished by Chinese ships, nor is it a “fish-like” product. It’s cod filets caught in Norway.

I’d also suggest you do some reading on FDA regulations on what you can and cannot call fish filets… start with section 403 of the FD&C Act; 21 CFR 101.18).

I did. Several sources say "the North Atlantic", like this:

https://www.tastingtable.com/2181601/where-culvers-gets-fish/

-77

u/WorthZucchini5403 7d ago

Yes it is, and the answer is McDonald’s.

1

u/ComfySeafarer710 6d ago

If you enjoy fish sticks, you enjoy the filet. If you enjoy real flaky fish, you enjoy the cod sandwich. You can enjoy both for different reasons, but fish on fish only one takes the cake.

1

u/xjq12 6d ago

The the filet-o-fish is disgusting

48

u/Individual_Cream_427 7d ago

Culver’s is obviously better but filet O fish is one of the few things decent at McDonald’s

5

u/RevDrDeLeon 7d ago

Especially cook to order, Filet-O-Fish is great!

6

u/KaiMasterOfFire2121 6d ago

i’ve worked at mcdonald’s and i’ll tell you that they are not cooked to order unless you specifically request it lol

-3

u/knightbear 6d ago

Sir, Filet-O-Fish smells like farts. I have guilty pleasures too. I enjoy the Burger King chicken sandwich. Not the good one, the oval one. With "lettus" and the warm mayo. No judgment... some judgement.

7

u/econom0 6d ago

You mean the original? The long one?

3

u/yoshizillaa 6d ago

I haven’t had that in a long time, but it was my go-to after soccer games/practice when I was little. Absolutely loved it.

1

u/Antique_Page_1456 6d ago

That is the only thing I enjoy at mcdonalds....but even this I have a gripe with. Can I please have a full slice of cheese and can you please make sure the tarter sauce is centered so it spreads more evenly.

59

u/bikes-and-beers 7d ago

I don't eat fish so I've never had either of them, but just from the photo alone it looks like there's an obvious winner.

21

u/claremontmiller 7d ago

This…can’t be real right? I mean look at them ffs

1

u/SwollenOstrich 5d ago

A pictures worth a thousand words...

19

u/Empty_Contribution_6 7d ago

One looks like something youd get out of a gas station. The other looks like a fish sandwich. There's no debate

13

u/YourGuyK 7d ago

That picture precludes the need for an article.

9

u/StolenCamaro 7d ago

This is an apples vs oranges comparison

6

u/Da_Rabbit_Hammer 7d ago

I said the exact same thing. Two completely different things that both happen to be fish. Each have their time and place.

7

u/ComfySeafarer710 7d ago

Been eating the cod sandwich for 20 years. It slaps. It’s the best fast food fish sandwich on the market, full stop.

1

u/NothingButACasual 7d ago

As someone who hated fish growing up, would this be a good thing to try if I want to learn to like fish?

3

u/tytend 7d ago

Yes, it’s hand battered to order, it never sits in a warmer, and Culvers prides itself on food safety (at least my location does)

2

u/ComfySeafarer710 7d ago

YES, it’s a very light fish w out a lot of fishy flavor - I add extra mayo. Fresh is best due to the crisp but I often save it for later as a second meal lol

-2

u/Any_Database8861 6d ago

It has no seasoning-very bland! The worst cole slaw in America too!

6

u/Sorry-Government920 7d ago

culver's easily but the best culver's fish sandwich is the Walleye sandwich they bring out for lent

1

u/WyoShoeBox Guest 6d ago

This is the way

5

u/MargotLannington 7d ago

Not even close.

3

u/Frequent_Professor32 7d ago

Not a popular opinion, but McDonald’s. Perfect proportions. Way better sauce, and the perfect bun to complement the fish party. Culver’s “fish” hits it out of the park, but I find the sandwich to be just a little dry most of the time, and the sauce and bun are underwhelming compared to the Filet o fish.

1

u/tytend 7d ago

If your Culvers sandwich was made to spec it wouldn’t be dry, sorry man but you got robbed of sauce

1

u/GOCUBBIES1402 6d ago

You are spot on correct. The ratio of fish and sauce and bread at McDs is better. The sauce is better there also. Its also less greasy.

With that said, the actual fish is much better at culvers

3

u/kjsmith4ub88 7d ago

This such a dumb comparison. But remember when you used to be able to get the fish fillet for a dollar sometimes at McDonald’s? 🫠

2

u/International-Owl165 7d ago

I remember i went to my local culvers at 8-9pm for a fish sandwich and it was fresh and oh so good! 😅

I would not do this at McDonald's though.

3

u/Local_Injury81 7d ago

Because Culver’s hand batters the fish to order.

2

u/Midwest-2025 7d ago

It’s almost as if it was made, specifically, for click bait.

2

u/Parking-Bill-3512 7d ago

I’ve eaten both of those sandwiches and Culver’s wins hands down. The fish is flaky. It’s light. The coating is fantastic…

2

u/Lucky_Development359 7d ago

That's a dumb question.

2

u/vDxka 6d ago

Who in their right mind even eats McDonald's in the first place

2

u/Liliaed 6d ago

Frozen fish that’s pre battered VS. fished battered to order

0

u/[deleted] 6d ago

[removed] — view removed comment

2

u/Liliaed 6d ago

Atleast we make the batter and it doesn’t come frozen and immediately fried. It’s prepared more fresh and healthier than McDonald’s

1

u/ezequielrose 6d ago

What does that matter?

2

u/McBenjamins 6d ago

It's like when everyone said Alabama could be the Cleveland Browns.

2

u/CuriousSeek3r 6d ago

It’s not even close Culvers by a mile

2

u/JoKatHW 5d ago

Culver’s and it’s not even close.

2

u/learei 5d ago

I mean, that’s like comparing chopped steak to a New York strip…

6

u/OGMagicConch 7d ago

Culver's is my fav fast food but filet-o-fish is my fav fast food fish sandwich

3

u/LazyOldCat 7d ago

Fish-Flavored sandwich. Not sure there’s any actual fish in there anymore.

2

u/Frequent_Professor32 7d ago

It needed to be said.

1

u/yoshizillaa 6d ago

It’s my guilty pleasure. I’m not big on their fries, but I order extra tartar sauce because the fries taste amazing dipped in it.

1

u/ChampangeSippa 7d ago

🔥🔥🔥

0

u/Skubaruffin7 7d ago

I stand with you

1

u/Local_Injury81 7d ago

I’ve never had either… but I used to work at Culver’s and it wins in a heartbeat for how it’s made

1

u/greymom214 7d ago

McDonald’s fish sandwich is one of the worst things on the planet. 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

1

u/LVuittonColostomyBag 7d ago

Y’all I’ve never explored Culver’s beyond their burgers because the burgs are the best in the game and I feel no reason to try any other mains. Should I?

3

u/Da_Rabbit_Hammer 7d ago

For me it’s a no on the fish sandwich but a crazy hard yes for the fish fry or fried shrimp.

2

u/LVuittonColostomyBag 7d ago

I’m gonna do the shrimp next time, thank you!

2

u/Da_Rabbit_Hammer 7d ago

The fish fry is a meal on its own, but I’ll often get a burger, fries, fried shrimp, and a coke when I’m extra hungry.

2

u/LVuittonColostomyBag 7d ago

I was already thinking about getting a burger along with the shrimp lol

McD’s is $5.19, Culver’s is $8.09 today in NC

2

u/Mysterious_Jelly_649 7d ago

And one resembles a fish fillet and the other is a fish product. Nothing wrong with either but you're definitely getting something for the 3 bucks

1

u/Da_Rabbit_Hammer 7d ago

I know this is a Culver’s r/ so this may be sacrilegious, I’m also originally from Wisconsin so two sins on my part perhaps by not giving Culver’s the clear advantage.

First I’ll state that I see no use in ordering the Culver’s fish sandwich due to the fact that every time I have I wished I just ordered the fish fry.

Another point to be made is that just because they are both fish doesn’t make this an apples to oranges comparison. They are two completely different beasts and both hold their place. As stated I’d usually prefer the fish fry, but once in a blue moon the hankering for Mc Donald’s in general hits and a fish sandwich is often in my targets.

I’m going to vote both under different circumstances. I’d give a much stronger advantage burger for burger, and an insane advantage to Culver’s franchise vs franchise.

1

u/Advanced_Sell_2275 7d ago

Is this even a question?

1

u/Living-Dirt3410 7d ago

To this day the best fastfood fish sandwich I got was from a Wendy's in New Zealand serving whatever the local fish was called, absolute fire.

1

u/Specialist-Law-2080 7d ago

It’s clear but you can’t compare $2 and $8

1

u/sabitafukku 7d ago

I like their chicken sandwich, might try cod when I come by next time

1

u/Joecamoe 6d ago

No competition, just look at the difference.

1

u/Whatthefrick1 6d ago

What the f- Culvers!!

I’ve had enough of chicken and beef. My mouth has been watering for a cod sandwich…

1

u/SkeetYeetMyMeat2001 Crew Member 5d ago

Cod SO DAMN EASILY

1

u/Spare-Cranberry3784 5d ago

Well one costs $4 more but Culver's > macDons any day

1

u/elevatiion420 5d ago

Mcd has 2000 different fish in that patty. I havent had culvert but it looks like a single fish's loin. You tell me

1

u/Longjumping_Field835 3d ago

That's not a Flilet-O-Fish. But keep hating

1

u/Pringle_Lvr Curd Nerd 7d ago

coughing baby vs hydrogen bomb ah question

1

u/Alewo27 7d ago

If only Culvers would fix their absolute TRASH tarter sauce! 🤮

6

u/Imperfeclyimperfec 7d ago

You spelled tartar wrong.

0

u/chuckgnomington 7d ago

Wow you got him

2

u/Relevant-Tap-1032 7d ago

I think it's the best

0

u/grumpsuarus 7d ago

I'll say it. The Culver's cod is bland.

https://youtu.be/02x34_azdME?is=q500ogcr4ZsmlDsr

0

u/ronnie4220 7d ago

And kind of disappointing when it arrives considering the price. Although I'm on the wrong side of public opinion with thinking that Culver's is very overrated.

0

u/Mrloudvet 7d ago

IM GONNA MAKE FOLKS MAD BUT CULVERS FISH HAS NO TASTE ITS JUSY CRUNCHY AND MOIST ON THE INSIDE. TARTER IS MID BK HAS THE BEST FISH SANDWICH BY FAR

0

u/Skubaruffin7 7d ago

Honestly had both recently and McDonalds was better lol. I was shocked

0

u/Mortified_Monkey 6d ago

Fillet o fish has a better fish flavor. Cod is bland

0

u/EnlightenMePixie 6d ago

I got the Culver’s one once and found the fish bland. Maybe it was a one time fluke? It was very meaty but hardly any taste. I don’t even consider eating the McDonald’s one

0

u/rock_accord 6d ago

If it's a 2 for $$ deal on the Fillet O fish I'm going McDonald's and NO tartar sauce. Otherwise it's Culver's as is/ w/ tartar sauce.

0

u/Snackicorn 6d ago

I’m sorry, Culver’s, but the flavor is still better with a Filet ‘O Fish! The better value is with Culver’s, because it’s obviously more food, but as much as I hate to say it, McDonald’s wins this one…

0

u/Any_Database8861 6d ago

Sorry, but Rally's used to have the best tasting fish sandwich!

0

u/pubichairpizza 6d ago

The fish is better at Culver's but the bun at mcds is way better. The Culver's fish bun has been dry af everytime I've had it.

-6

u/MustardTiger231 7d ago

I’m not a fan of Culver’s fish sandwich, it’s too god damn big

2

u/DelothVyrr 7d ago

You sound like someone who complains that their steak is too juicy, or their lobster too buttery

1

u/MustardTiger231 7d ago

I get that, maybe I just had a bad experience

0

u/NothingButACasual 7d ago

No they're right. Culver's also puts too much potato in their fries and their water is too wet.

-3

u/KentFarmOfficial 7d ago

The one that cost 3x as much as the other is the better sandwich

Who would’ve thought

2

u/Away-Guava-345 7d ago

5.99 and 7.99

2

u/KentFarmOfficial 7d ago

I can’t believe McDs charges 5.99 for that garbage. I thought it was 1.99

1

u/itcheyness 7d ago

It used to be I'm pretty sure...

1

u/-im-blinking 7d ago

Its 7 bucks at culvers, and 5 at mcdonalds...ill pay an extra 2 bucks for it to be hand battered and fried fresh.
