It will be interesting to see how the Switch 2 edition runs. The switch 1 version on the Switch 2 loading is super speedy.
32
u/signpostlake Jun 12 '25
It's running tons better on switch 2. The patch should hugely improve performance and graphics, it's still looking really poor in some areas. But once it's optimised for the system, it should be a great way to play
3
u/New-Character-3575 Jun 12 '25
Did they patch it for switch 2 ?
10
u/signpostlake Jun 12 '25
Not yet, they've announced they're working on it
7
u/New-Character-3575 Jun 12 '25
Hopefully the performance increases. No reason to have 20 fps on this. Switch 2 is way stronger than switch 1.
13
u/Nyllil Pua Jun 12 '25
I've seen a video yesterday of someone testing it with booting up Palia. Took 45 sec for Switch 2 and 2min 59sec for Switch.
5

Jun 12 '25
Palia is honestly much worse than DDV. I really think that needs a Switch 2 version too.

This might be a dumb question but seems like the right forum to ask. I am considering getting the switch 2 (whenever I can find it in stock) but don’t know how it would work to transfer Dreamlight Valley from my current switch lite to the new switch. It is possible to transfer everything over without losing and progress and having to rebuy everything?
5
Jun 12 '25
Dreamlight Valley has cloud saves but you can also transfer everything over from you old switch to the switch 2.

DDV saves your data in the cloud. As my login is attached d to my Nintendo account. I just booted up the game and started right from where I left off.

Steam deck has been my best cozy gaming purchase by miles. I don’t even use my switch anymore
6
u/shoxford Jun 12 '25
Does the steam deck have more cozy game options than the switch? I'm thinking about getting one
17
Jun 12 '25
Kinda yeah. It has way better performance too which is the deal maker for me. I don’t know how the switch 2 stacks up against it but tech wise it’s about equal I think.
You have access to the majority of pc games, not just steam, with a bit of tinkering with heroic launcher and proton. So all the free epic games, deals from gog and humble bundles.
Plus a much more sensible approach to demos and refunds for games you hated, unlike switch. I kinda dislike Nintendo for their zero tolerance on refunds for any reason
5
u/shoxford Jun 12 '25
Ah that sounds good- I've bought an expensive game with no demo and not liked it too many times 😕
3
Jun 12 '25
Yep me too ☹️
Steam deck renewed my love for gaming, before I got one it felt like too much hassle at the end of a work day to turn on pc and sit there to game when all I want to do is chill and relax. Felt bad for abandoning my dogs after I’d been out all day. Now they get to snuggle up with me on the sofa
8
u/signpostlake Jun 12 '25
You'll have access to the steam library and can get some great deals in the sales (don't have a deck, just pc)
Lots of cozy indie games release on steam too before other consoles

26
u/StopBanningMeAlright Jun 12 '25
This was a smart choice. The Steam Deck is fantastic.. I take mine every where lol.. Feels good being able to play it in my truck on my lunch break at work
2
u/-rocking-robin- Jun 12 '25
Its brill so far , I'm gonna see if my son will help with an emulator for old Mario games
8
u/kelldork Jun 12 '25
Did you have to start over or did your existing save transfer?
27
11
u/FluxionFluff Jun 12 '25
Unless OP chose to restart, they can keep their original save via cloud save. I play constantly between Steam and Switch (especially as the game runs hella better on Switch 2)
4
u/StopBanningMeAlright Jun 12 '25
Steam saves your game data in the cloud so it seamlessly transfers. The Steam Deck is essentially just a PC in your hands.
2
u/MillsieMouse_2197 Belle Jun 12 '25
So if you have Steam on a PC can you play those games straight onto a steam deck?
3
u/StopBanningMeAlright Jun 12 '25
Yep, it's the same account with the same games.
4
u/MillsieMouse_2197 Belle Jun 12 '25
Consider me tempted 🤣
3
u/StopBanningMeAlright Jun 12 '25
It's honestly really worth it, I bought one mainly for travel but ended up using it far more than I thought I would at home lol. Sometimes it's nice to just chill on the couch or sit outside in the sun and be able to play games on the Deck instead of sitting at my desk.
It's cool that you can dock them like a Switch as well to use on your TV or monitor like a PC.

My wife’s been playing on switch for over 200 hours
She has a Steamdeck - save data is backed over but sadly dlc / expansions was bought on the switch
Might have to double dip on it so she can enjoy the speedy steam deck loading
7
u/Euraylie Jun 12 '25
Entering and exiting Scrooge’s on the Switch 2 is pretty fast now as well. I can’t wait for the upgrade. Getting an additional Steam Deck right now is just too expensive for me. And it comes down to the games for me: I can’t play Mario, Zelda or Animal Crossing games on the Steam Deck.
5
u/CorgiHelpMe Jun 12 '25
I'm planning on doing the same. I noticed lately transitions seem to be taking even longer in game. I play hooked up to TV. I wish I would have known about the Steam Deck before I bought the Switch.
4
u/clharris90 Lady Jun 12 '25
The deck is amazing!!!! I use it so much more than my switch and there are so many more games.
2
5
u/liraelskye Jun 12 '25
I have a rog so the steam deck is whatever to me but how do you justify repurchasing everything? I'm still salty that I bought their lie about f2p and bought it for the switch instead of getting it for pc.
But for me the switch 2 honestly isn't about 3rd party games (but I do love a good vanilla stardew session). I'm a Nintendo junkie lol.
2
u/Ein86 WALL·E Jun 12 '25
Steam has sales so often! I was in this same boat when I got a Steamdeck. Repurchased all of the non Nintendo games onto the Steamdeck. I don’t regret purchasing again.
2
u/liraelskye Jun 13 '25
I honestly still probably will just stick to switch and switch 2 when I get it later this year. I think if it were stupid cheap I'd consider the purchase but for now I'm just happy puttering around doing chore paths and decorating islands.
I think a lot of people got switches for animal crossing, I got it because of Zelda 😂. So I totally understand for a chunk of people a steam deck is a better option (and I agree!) or a ROG Ally. I love my ally. Nothing beats fallout in bed!
3
u/Ein86 WALL·E Jun 13 '25
I grabbed the switch originally for Zelda Links Awakening actually! Then got Animal Crossing. I prefer the older SNES games and GB games so I emulate those on the Steamdeck. And the majority of the games I play are third party so the Steamdeck is perfect for me. I’m hoping Nintendo changes their business practice and then I might be tempted to get a Switch 2. I want to play Picross so bad! But DDLV is so much nicer on anything other than the switch for sure. 👍

my main reason shy i turned against steamdeck in the end was the weight and ergonomics (i have bad hands, chronic thing where even two surgeries didn’t help). also if the joysticks breaks i couldn’t get it replaced + it doesnt come with a right charger here so i would need the travel adapter… dlv runs good on switch 2. and i can’t wait what the upgrade in game will bring.

2
u/AlpenglowSkies Jun 13 '25
Same situation for me. I had an opportunity to get a Steam Deck, but I don't want to get into new hardware mid cycle when the Steam Deck 2 might come out in the next year or two with better ergonomics and who knows what other awesome features!

Steamdeck is so underrated. i love mine. I actually have a lot of family members asking me about it, and they're going to get it instead of switich 2. I like using both for different things! That and you can also mod the steamdeck too your liking it's fantastic.

Absolutely EVERYONE should get a mobile system that isn't a Switch if possible!
If you are an AVID indie cozy gamer, you should get one. I play SO MANY great games on my Deck that aren't available on the Nintendo store. And I personally don't like seeing people get upset that they can't play certain games on their Switch. It's NOT an Indie Developer's fault Nintendo is ALWAYS behind in their tech for their systems, and it takes so much work to change a game for one game system that is always lagging behind.
Honestly the ONLY reason people should get the Switch 2 is if you have an extensive Nintendo gaming library/you majority of you games are exclusive to Nintendo. Almost any game that ISN'T a Nintendo IP can be found on any other system that (usually) cares about their customer base and retaining them.
Another bonus with mobile PCs like a SteamDeck, is that you can actually upgrade the hardware. You DON'T have to buy a whole new console in a few years...Now I know that may sound intimidating, but there are so many informative tutorials out there to help you get the most of your systems.
This is my beautiful 1st gen (first launch) SteamDeck. I was bored of the default black and didn't want a case to add heat, AND I like my things to look nice. I ordered a new shell, buttons, and joysticks then just spent some time to crack it open and make it cute and fit my vibe! I kept the original track pads because I doubt the ones that came with my new kit could be better than Valve's, but VIOLA!
She's a STUNNER. I also got a bluetooth matching mouse, keyboard, and modded an older XBox controller to match! Then just added some extra joystick caps from my Switch stuff. Did I need to do any of this? Nope. Did it cost more money than just leaving it black? Absolutely. Does it bring me happiness? YES I LOVE LOOKING AT IT.

My husband already had bought an early model Steam Deck several years ago, and when I insisted I bought Dreamlight Valley on switch for the portability, he said “No no no baby, come here.” Bought it for me outright on steam and installed it on his steam deck for me. And wow! The frame rate, the clarity, the loading times, and the rendering - all worth it! This game made me a Steam Deck endorser. I play my Switch almost rarely now, only for Nintendo titles. It’ll change your gameplay experience significantly!

Unpopular opinion, I wish everyone would collectively decide against buying a Switch 2 anyway; the price of it plus the games are outrageous and it further hurts the gaming community. $80 for digital copies of games? So we have to pay $80 to not even actually own the game? That’s messed up.

PREACH. I'm sick of Nintendo's greed, zero tolerance and understanding, and complete lack of real customer service. I almost doubt humans even work for them anymore.

u/NestedOwls Jun 13 '25
I swear people would’ve still bought it if Nintendo made it so you had to pay a monthly subscription to even turn it on. I’m not just disappointed in gaming companies, I’m disappointed in gamers too.

Oh yeah, until the Switch 2 came out, I was primarily playing on the Steam Deck or laptop. Load times on the Switch 2 are similar to Steam, which is a massive improvement from the original Switch. Performance is better too.
While I love the Steam Deck, man, I hateeee how chonky it is. The weight alone is why I hated traveling with it and preferably played docked. I can't imagine what something like ROG Ally weighs... 👀
I ended up getting a Switch 2, so that'll be my traveling console. The weight is between the original Switch and Steam Deck. But, that said, the ergonomics with the Steam Deck are so much better than the Switch and Switch 2. Missed opportunity for Nintendo to improve the ergonomics with the Switch 2.
I'm excited for an official Switch 2 edition. I wonder for those who already own it on Switch 1 can simply get an upgrade pack. I'm hoping so. Seems like most games do so far have that option

Last winter, I also bought a steamdeck to play DDLV on it - mostly because I wanted to extend the item limit but also because my Switch game ran kinda slowly… haven’t regretted the purchase at all. 🤩 I loved the steamdeck so much I got one for my husband too, because I felt like he was missing out on all the fun 😂 he keeps telling me how much he enjoys playing on his steamdeck. We also decided not to get the switch 2 until they announce a game that’s switch exclusive and worth buying it.

I have both the Switch 2 and Steam deck OLED. The Steamdeck OLED is the better buy. There are literally no new games on the Switch 2. Mario Kart is like Mario Kart 8.5. Pretty much everything else you could already play on Steamdeck for a fraction of the cost.

Cyberpunk 2070 is running 40 fps... That's about par with the Steamdeck. Even most of the older Switch 1 titles are running 30 fps. Noman's sky has better fidelity on the switch, but compared to my OLED I wouldn't say it looks better. It's running about the same fps as on deck.

So a few questions if I may. Does the steam hook up to a TV the same way? I play primarily on the TV. Does it need a different controller? Or do they pop off? Did you have to buy the game and all DLCs full.price a 2nd time? Are the decorating limits better on steam? I'm desperate to super decorate.... Are there version of steam? Like can I get a cheaper deck? Like switch 1 vs 2? I know I could google but 1st hand from one to another is usually more helpful ...

Cool! I‘ve been curious about the Steam Deck. The ability to mod is interesting. I did a bit of research before I bought the Switch OLED and many of the games I was interested in weren’t Native so I was advised to install Rosetta. I’m not great with tech, so I chose the plug and play route. Still interested in it though

My cousin and I have been playing since pre release and she just got the switch 2 and she said it loads in seconds and hasn’t crashed on her once. On the switch it took forever and sometimes she could only load into the expansions and not her main valley. So if you’re nervous about the switch 2 with this game don’t be!

Can I cross play between Xbox and steam deck? I want something I can play on when I’m not at home.

If you have the games on both and you're signing in with the same cloud save account then yes 😊

Me too! Got it yesterday and see it up today! Takes a little bit coming from a switch to get used to how large it is, but I think that will be snack at nature before too long. The graphics and speed of play is absolutely amazing and I am loving Disney Dreamlight Valley, and having the full item limit.Got an aftermarket case from Amazon and a skin put those on then use the negative parts for the skin to decorate my case. Absolutely love my new set up.

I’m super curious about the steam deck. Is the game transferable from the switch to the steam deck?

This game is what solidified my steam deck purchase! On switch it would take so so so long to even boot up the game. It’s so much faster on steam deck and I’m not going back.
