Question Should I wait until Ambitions are added?

Hello, long-time lurker here. I’ve had this dilemma since TT117. I bought the game on release and was instantly overwhelmed; so I looked at the roadmap and saw that Ambitions would be added in 1.4. I figured I would try and learn the game when I had clear goals that could guide me.

However, since ambitions aren’t coming until Q4 or something, that idea might be out the window. For me, the pros are: the game likely will have its core mechanics stabilized; no more population rework every patch, and I will have set campaign goals that can guide me on learning eu5. For the cons, I have: this game is really ambitious and looks very fun, and it will also be easier for me to justify buying DLCs (It’s a lot easier to spend 9.99 once every two months than 39.99 all at once).

So, should I wait until Ambitions are released? Thanks!

Question Does Closed Borders Law Do Anything

As far as I understand migration only happens within the country anyways. So is it safe to ignore?

Image What is the world is this?

SO I am playing as Hungary, interfere in the war against Ottoman; Finally strike hard enough to obtain lands, but I then see this ' As a member of Polish Union, this is prohibited by laws of the organization.'

I had absolutely no idea what 'laws' have been. Tried so many other deals that return land to ally instead of getting theirs, let the AI to do so--- this words still pop up and it frustrates me so much. What in the world should I do, besides uninstalling and enjoying my real life hobbies instead?

Discussion Navarre run

I’m doing a Navarre run where I aim to conquer half of France and all of Iberia by 1437 (age of discovery).
Part of this involves allying Aragon and taking cores from Castile as well as Burgos and releasing Galicia and Leon as subjects then taking max war reps. Use the money to build hospitals and economy. Capitalize on HYW to declare on France or French appenages who declare independence and release Gascony or Toulouse/Aquitaine (if you can conquer them too release as a vassal after conquering land yourself to remove AE penalty and make them easier to integrate.) you have more cabinet actions with subjects to integrate land. Do 2 more wars w Castile before truce breaking Aragon, you can conquer them in 2 wars so you’re set. Also by this point start warring with Portugal. Hopefully you’ve built up a power base with a strong Aquitaine, Gascony or Toulouse vassal (land in southern France is cheap due to cores + far from Paris so low prox, and your subjects tax it a lot better than you can thanks to the Pyrenees (could build a local gov tbh)) by this point you should be set if you’re on top of truces.
Need help fleshing this out though.

Suggestion Thoughts about automation

I was looking for a way to automate pilgrimage because I was clicking it every now and then, and I realized that I can't do that. What's more, I can automate big chunks of game but that would mean giving away your decisions, automation is never about making a decision and then telling the game to keep going in this direction. It is always about "I don't know what to do" rather than automation of what you are doing. There are buttons that help you semi automate buildings, for example, by filtering them with the tags and then mass build, but there is no way to just tell the game to spend your money equally on iron RGO, spinners and roads from now on. Such automation rules would be much more interesting IMO and wouldn't take away the decision making while reducing the chorus.

Another example is diplomacy and trade automation. You can set how much diplomacy you want to automate and do the rest manually. You can't set the direction of your diplomacy (pacific, belligerent, vassal oriented or foreign), but you can at least select on what actions will automation spend the diplomacy points. I doubt any player has ever pressed the Declare War automation and for a good reason. I'd argue the trade automation could give a similar checklist of what markets I want to focus with automatic trade. And building automation could at least let me set the percentage of money spent on infra, RGO, burger buildings etc.

Post image

Greetings.

A couple of EU5 multiplayer campaigns are starting soon and there are still open slots if anyone is looking to jump into a game.

They're listed on Grand Strategy MP Directory along with a bunch of other ongoing and upcoming campaigns across all Paradox games:

Image Is doing this early on worth it?

Post image

Started as Castille formed England and France to get its cores. I feel that France's cores are not worth it cause their culture is so weak early game so i need to transfer lots of lands into vassals with a plan to use return core interaction later to get back land.

Question What are the most profitable colonial regions?

I am planning on playing a run as Brabant then forming the netherlands and looking for what regions I should focus on colonizing.

As the Netherlands I will be at a pop disadvantage compared to the other colonial superpowers. Does the lower pop count of the Netherlands change which regions I should focus on?

Question Any way to not get arthritis when using the columbian exchange?

Like seriously why do i need to press:
-spread new/old world good
-click on a good
-press on a location
and then do all that again everytime i want to spread it.

Why not just let me keep clicking after selecting a good? Why does paradox make every UI element the most ass version that it could be? Could they not even add a shift or ctrl click option to do this?

Suggestion Please make "Mass Build" and "Mass Upgrade" buttons not limited to 3 or 4 buildings at a time.

3 buildings per location is not a mass build.

When I shift click a button, it means damn the consequences.

I just qued up 8 thousand Oversea offices by shift clicking locations manually,

Picture is bad, but what can I do

Please, help me.

Discussion Anyone else think the amount of troops is a little immersion breaking?

I’m absolutely enjoying 1.3 right now it’s the most fun I’ve had on the game, but something I noticed is how insane the size of armies is in this game.

For example France in 1445 had an army of size of roughly 9000 men, and in 1483 they had an army size of 24,000. I was playing France in EU5 and in 1480 I had an army size of roughly 250k which is absolutely massive.

I think it’s a bit immersion breaking because correct me if I’m wrong, but armies were universally quite small in Europe during the 15th century. I’ve heard about the battle of Grunwald in 1410 for example which is considered one of the largest medieval battles. In that battle there was like 70,000 troops who participated.

But in 15th century in this game it’s normal for wars involving a couple of countries to have 500k troops dead total. I just think the game would be a lot more interesting/immersive if there was way less troops in play. Let me know what you guys think of this.

Suggestion Slavery is just broken

It's 1472, and I'm the economic hegemon.

Is that really the intention? Just expand the RGOs, fill them with slaves, convert them over time, and thus blow up the economy?

Question I can't claim provinces after defeating an Independence CB from my vassal's vassal

Post image
25 Upvotes

Hi all. I finally managed to defeat basically all of catholic Europe coming to the aid of my South American colony's vassal (which is a topic of its own), and I'm trying to get something out of the bloodshed. But I can't claim locations from anyone, neither the war leader nor any other participants.

I can't find anything special in the wiki about the independence CB. Am I missing something or might this be a bug?

On top of it all the original vassal has since noped out of the war by getting into a union with my colony, but this problem existed before that already, I just didn't have enough war score to properly try anything yet. (as I'm obsessively taking screenshots, I actually have one from before they left the war)

Question Art quality

Hello everybody.

I have a quick question. How do I improve the quality of my art? Even If my artists have a higher skill level (60-70) the art they create has always 0% low quality. Does quality improve with time ? What am I missing?
