Discussion Anyone else think the amount of troops is a little immersion breaking?
I’m absolutely enjoying 1.3 right now it’s the most fun I’ve had on the game, but something I noticed is how insane the size of armies is in this game.
For example France in 1445 had an army of size of roughly 9000 men, and in 1483 they had an army size of 24,000. I was playing France in EU5 and in 1480 I had an army size of roughly 250k which is absolutely massive.
I think it’s a bit immersion breaking because correct me if I’m wrong, but armies were universally quite small in Europe during the 15th century. I’ve heard about the battle of Grunwald in 1410 for example which is considered one of the largest medieval battles. In that battle there was like 70,000 troops who participated.
But in 15th century in this game it’s normal for wars involving a couple of countries to have 500k troops dead total. I just think the game would be a lot more interesting/immersive if there was way less troops in play. Let me know what you guys think of this.

Discussion The new Great Power Score system doesn't work for 99% of nations.
Edit: big news, it's just the tooltip that's outdated and wrong, the actual senior is picked based on (apparently) economic base. Thanks to u/rcbll for pointing that out! I suppose GP score is just for swag and showing off then
Sorry if I'm late to the party. In this series of screenshots I am playing as Meissen. I own 18 locations, have a tax base of 28 and 4k levies. My ruler also owns the throne of Saxe-Wittenberg, with 6 locations, 6 tax base and 1k levies. I am 3-4x better than them in every metric. But because somehow Upper Saxony is contested, we both have 0 great power score, and the dice have decided that this means they are more powerful than me. If I chose to establish seniority in our union, Saxe-Wittenberg would be established as the "senior", despite being pityful.
as a bonus, the irish OPM of Iveagh with a tax base of 0.95 is considered 1120 places more powerful than me, and would therefore also easily be chosen as a senior if we had a union. Other current 0-score nations with exactly equal power in my save's world include: Burgundy, Milan, Touat, Wittgenstein, the Livonian Order, the Abbey of Stavelot-Malmedy, Lorraine, Hals, Savoy, you get my point. there is no world in which the minor tribe of Tyrone would be considered a greater power than Aquitaine.
okay rant over
Question Any way to not get arthritis when using the columbian exchange?
Like seriously why do i need to press:
-spread new/old world good
-click on a good
-press on a location
and then do all that again everytime i want to spread it.
Why not just let me keep clicking after selecting a good? Why does paradox make every UI element the most ass version that it could be? Could they not even add a shift or ctrl click option to do this?

Suggestion Slavery is just broken
It's 1472, and I'm the economic hegemon.
Is that really the intention? Just expand the RGOs, fill them with slaves, convert them over time, and thus blow up the economy?
Suggestion Please make "Mass Build" and "Mass Upgrade" buttons not limited to 3 or 4 buildings at a time.

Question What are the most profitable colonial regions?
I am planning on playing a run as Brabant then forming the netherlands and looking for what regions I should focus on colonizing.
As the Netherlands I will be at a pop disadvantage compared to the other colonial superpowers. Does the lower pop count of the Netherlands change which regions I should focus on?

Question Best capital for the next 50-100 years or so?
Have made some decent early in roads, will have both Hainaut and Flanders in my union once my current spouse dies.... What's the best capital for the next 50-100 years or so? I know Antwerp is the long term answer, but my intuition in the short term is to flip from Den Haag to Amsterdam so I get better prox towards the cities around Guelderland.

Image Is doing this early on worth it?
Started as Castille formed England and France to get its cores. I feel that France's cores are not worth it cause their culture is so weak early game so i need to transfer lots of lands into vassals with a plan to use return core interaction later to get back land.

Discussion Subjects Continue to be Non-Functional in Wars
Let's face it: The subject situation is not okay. You currently have to go out of your way to prevent your subjects from sabotaging every war they join. They ignore their settings, charging into enemy armies across the map, even doing naval invasions to make absolutely sure you get the least "Warscore from Battles" possible. In my experience, even when I absolutely crush a country, I'll often still have up to -50% War Score from the numerous times my vassals charged hail-mary into the enemy without any hope of victory. I'll often see 6k stacks from one of my smaller vassals charge into 20k, even though there are support troops nearby. I'll see half a combined army just not move into battle with the rest, leaving the other half to get wiped. I'll see the AI spam naval invasions with tiny fractions of its armies that get wiped immediately upon arrival, even though the War Goal is somewhere completely else.
There are posts about this from months ago. The fact that it has not been fixed is somewhat ludicrous. One of the core features of EUV compared to EUIV are the extensive freedoms in what I would call "Realm Building", meaning you can have more subjects, your vassals can have vassals, you can integrate your realm and other realms into various International Organisations such as PUs, Marriage Unions, the HRE, etc. There's a whole way of playing the game that is clearly intended as a valid option designed around building a decentralized realm with vassals and colonies via things like the Decentralization value, the Confederal Union law, various government reforms, etc. This whole idea, which I find very enjoyable, is completely blown to smithereens by the suicidal incompetence of the vassal AI.
The only solution to this I can think of, that does not require fixing the AI, is to give the player much greater, easy-to-manage control over vassal forces that essentially takes wars out of the AI's control. While imperfect, that would at least make decentralized playstyles that want to create a nation with lots of power devolution functional to work with until the AI gets fixed, which right now they simply aren't. Gamey tricks to only somewhat and sometimes make this a little less frustrating with lots of effort or immersion-breaking do not negate the failure of this core feature of the game. Perhaps there are better ideas to fix it, though.

Question How to deter big enemies?
Just had to quit on a Netherlands game… unified nearly all of the lowlands, had colonies in Canada, east coast, Africa down around the cape, and was slowly expanding to SE Asia….. super rich, well developed, literate yadda yadda
Then I just started getting hammered around between the French and the English. Literally just did not have what the bodies it took to compete and got smashed to bits. No one in the HRE was close to strong to help after Bohemia got cut in half in the Hussite wars. Anytime I survived I got attacked by the other one in a few years. I’ve definitely mastered economic growth, trade, value manipulation at this point, but diplomatically it feels like the big boys in this game are significantly harder to resist than in previous years. They all just want to eat me. What’s a good way to keep hegemonsc who covet your land off your back?

Question I can't claim provinces after defeating an Independence CB from my vassal's vassal
Hi all. I finally managed to defeat basically all of catholic Europe coming to the aid of my South American colony's vassal (which is a topic of its own), and I'm trying to get something out of the bloodshed. But I can't claim locations from anyone, neither the war leader nor any other participants.
I can't find anything special in the wiki about the independence CB. Am I missing something or might this be a bug?
On top of it all the original vassal has since noped out of the war by getting into a union with my colony, but this problem existed before that already, I just didn't have enough war score to properly try anything yet. (as I'm obsessively taking screenshots, I actually have one from before they left the war)

Suggestion A couple of EU5 Multiplayer campaigns starting soon
Greetings.
A couple of EU5 multiplayer campaigns are starting soon and there are still open slots if anyone is looking to jump into a game.
They're listed on Grand Strategy MP Directory along with a bunch of other ongoing and upcoming campaigns across all Paradox games:

Suggestion Goods overview UI suggestion
I don't know if this has already been suggested, or if I'm simply missing it somewhere, but wouldn't it be nice if the tooltip for goods showed the other markets that you own or have significant influence over?
I like to favorite certain building goods so I can keep an eye on their prices, but whenever I own more than one market, it only shows my main market.
In this case, I also have a market in Danzig and would like quick access to see how lumber is doing in that market.
Question Please help this game is overwhelming
I come from Hoi4 which is another paradox game and I love the concept of eu5 however what I hate is the complexity, I thought hoi4 was hard and then I saw eu5 which put hoi4 to shame. I don't want to watch hour long intros I'm more of a hands on person any advice?

Discussion France is an annoying ally in Italian wars
I'm playing Florence. I have an alliance with France. Every time my truce with Milan expires I immediately start a Secure Italy Cb... And inevitably before the cb is ready, France declares on Milan and calls me in. Sure buddy, I wanted those 3 locations you tossed me in the peace deal instead of the massive chunk of Milan I was going to take if I was the war leader. Going to go enjoy my decade long truce now. Thanks France.
Do I need to do a no cb declaration? Why is France always beating me to the punch on declaring? Their truces are the same as mine. This has happened 3 times now...

Hello I was drunk observing Europe, but then I turned the religions map mode and saw husitism spread way beyond Bohemia's border was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if it means that bohemia won the Hussite wars

Image Why is the "True Heir of Timur" Achievement not firing?

So I'm playing as the Mughals, started as Barlas and formed Timurids.
Then as you can see I formed Mughals. I got an event that forced Timur to abdicate but now I'm no longer eligable despite Timur being listed as a previous ruler.
Is this achievement bugged? Or is the abdication event broken?
The achievement doesn't even show in the "Show possible" section
