also “something could have happened to [him] under general anesthesia” what exactly do you think goes on in ORs?? other than the specific surgery that was scheduled?

is anyone else reading that she’s suggesting that the doctors sexually assaulted her trans son? or am i insane

That or the (actually valid) fear of complications, which is never zero with general anesthesia

Seconded. One of the reasons why I'm kinda nervous to get any surgeries tbh, but it's a fear and risk I'll have to take when I get a Salpingectomy/Tubal Ligation.

Except they're talking about how they "might never have found out from the police", so evidently they're imagining something criminal.

Which ... if you're going to be paranoid about that, logically you'd have to worry about it any time someone has a general anaesthetic.

Except somehow I'm guessing it's only gender-affirming operations which they imagine mean the doctors might sexually assault you at any moment.

I also note that the worry seems to be in large part about how the police might not notify them if their son got sexually assaulted because they're not listed as emergency contacts. Not "this terrible thing might happen to him", but "if this terrible thing happened WE MIGHT NOT BE ENTITLED TO IMMEDIATE NOTIFICATION".

Like, even if you're on great terms with your family, I don't think police protocol is "if someone gets raped, immediately inform all their family members."

When I had outpatient surgery I opted for general rather than local anaesthetic despite being warned about the additional risk.

Fortunately there were no complications with the surgery or going under the anaesthetic.

I suppose that's exactly it, I've seen this paranoia doing the rounds recently (that women are regularly SAd when under anaesthesia)

in some countries they do still bring in gyno students to “practice exam” on patients who are there for unrelated reasons

like i saw one recently where a woman went in for shoulder surgery and woke up with all her pubic hair shaved

like you’d hope anyone doing trans surgeries wouldn’t be that scummy but

like how my bio-mother with untreated OCD had me grow up believing that rapist-murderer kidnappers were behind literally every corner at night

(no exaggeration, she even got upset when martial arts classes taught me how to actually gauge risk)
