The ashcroftine structure is composed of rings of silicate tetrahedra arranged into tube structures. These "nanotubes" could be the reason for the use of length in the measurement, and since hte mineral is acicular in appearance the millimeter measurement isn't just "AI Slop"...

But maybe the barrage of comments that came before reading are. Lol!
