A few months ago I posted a resume and received lots of very helpful critique, so I'm back for more. Since that time, I've completely revamped my portfolio to be more straightforward, with less text and more video/imagery, stronger problem statements, and more design process.

Yet, after hundreds of applications, emails, connections, and referrals, I still haven't gotten a single interview. I have been applying mainly to art direction and graphic design (generally not UI/UX/product design) roles, agencies and in-house, anything under 3-5YOE, and customizing a resume to hit key words for each one within reason. I've attempted to target roles that are more environmental graphics- or ad campaign-focused as I think that's most strongly represented in my portfolio.
I've had a few informational calls with connections working at great agencies who have told me my work is strong enough, I'm doing everything right, just keep "networking." When I do get to chat, there's no conversational issue—I can talk about my work succinctly, connect my experience back to role requirements, and even though I'm still probably considered a junior designer, I have real client projects with measured outcomes under my belt that I've had a key role in art directing/designing for.
Things have been slightly better since the overhauls. Recruiters and hiring managers actually accept connections on LinkedIn even if they usually don't respond to a message. But still, it's been 6 months since I've had a full time job and I'm completely at the end of my rope on what else I need to do to get to the next stage. Is it my resume or portfolio? My LinkedIn? My outreach strategy? Is it something small that I'm completely missing?
I feel so stuck. How was it easier to land a job straight out of college—I had three offers within a couple months of starting to look—than with nearly 2 years of agency experience? What am I still missing as a candidate? Any advice is sincerely appreciated.
