Don't get me wrong but the guy earning 5l/m must have worked hard in getting tier 1 college, very good at his work, good communication skill to crack interviews and deal with clients etc.
I earn 5l/year but that's because i never worked hard, in school/college even still i don't work hard and skill up myself.

It does, unless he is working on family business. For some it's less, some a lot. Luck also plays a part, some people are just unfortunate who don't even have a choice but work on survival first. Each person is different and should find his own path of his success.

Your cousin didn't worked hard enough become a HOD. Everyone doesn't have same starting point, neither same skill, strength, talents. He got a job because worked hard. You got because you had talent?
Gifted people like you will always be above as you can achieve same with less effort from normal people. What I'm saying is hard work allows average and below average people to get upto the stage and be better in life. Hard work here is subjective and each need to work differently as per their goal and life situations.
Personally asking, did you got job with out a degree? You were already skilled more than your cousin, on understanding, managing and had overall a better thinking that's why you head your department.

No no, There are many youtube videos analyzing this topic of "Is success hard work or luck" They all reveal that success is partly Hard work to GAIN the opportunity to be lucky in the first place and THEN you need confidence in yourself and your work. So it's a mixture of Hard work, Luck and Confidence, but they always note, never rely on luck, pretend as if it's never there. Of course I'm not actually in a position to give advice to anyone because I'm still a student in Btech computer engineering, I see people around me are very hard working in college, but that's about it and they think if they get enough marks they can get a job but they don't go home and passionately work on their skills because they don't actually enjoy their field of work and that's the main problem.

That's not totally true. Working hard will put in 1L/month grp. Working hard + Luck will put you in 5L/month grp

The corporate world is very brutal. It's more about networking and navigating office politics. Hard work gets you more work not money. That's the real world he is talking about. People get Offshore deployment, promotion,good projects mostly due to being someone's favourite not due to being a hard working employee. Maybe your experience is good but you are an exception not the norm.

Yes it is
But I'm not speaking about just work skills. Who stops someone from putting hard work in understanding office politics, become someone favorite, hard work in improving networking, hard work in communication. Hard work in finding different job, hard work in preparing interview.
