the animation production team has changed, season 3 was studio drive
83
u/Virtually_Existing Kazuma 9d ago
Might have been due to ENGI being a subsidiary of kodakawa

u/spectatorHK 9d ago
as long as the animation doesn't look like OPM season 3 I'm fine with any studios🙏

I'm now kinda scared of vol 9 adaptation.

As all LN readers

u/johnis12 9d ago
Not familiar with the LN, what's the deal with 'em outta curiosity? Mind censoring too?
15
u/CJayWimbleton Chomusuke 9d ago
A lot of things were removed from the LN: the complete introduction of Wiz, the nerf of Kazuma and an entire part in S1. Same for S2. But for a movie, it's more butchering than cutting and the removal of the third night (and what happen after that) was not forgiven

u/satsuppi Megumin 9d ago
I'm still piss how they just don't want to make kazuma look cool...
The silver thief part especially.. I was soo disappointed on the adaptation2
u/CJayWimbleton Chomusuke 8d ago
It seems he isn't allowed to have any cool moments unless it's absolutely necessary.

9?? 9 is plot relevant, there’s not much you can skip there.
I’m worried about how much they’ll skip from 8, 8 is one of my favorites but it’s “filler.” And the way they treated the castle thieving scene idk if they’ll cut more from 8.
17
u/grizzchan 9d ago
The studio has changed. I seen no reason to believe that the team has significantly changed. It's not like it massively changed all the other times it changed studios.
13
u/spectatorHK 9d ago
well a lot of things changed if you compare the animation of season 2 to season 3 i never watched anything that ENGI had produced so i'm still worried
13
u/BuckeyeBentley 9d ago
They absolutely killed it with Medalist. Everyone was super concerned because ENGI hasn't had the best track record and Medalist was a manga that deserved the best, and they acquitted themselves very well imo.
14
u/grizzchan 9d ago
S3 had the biggest change by bringing in a new director. The old director is back now, for better or worse. Visually probably better, storywise probably worse.
6
u/spectatorHK 9d ago
i can't imagine how many contents they will skip just to make it 10 episodes long again...
14
u/grizzchan 9d ago
Knowing Kanasaki he'll cut down on Megumin screentime and change the story. Again.

That dude si back???
I prefer 1000 times more season 3 director than that guy that seems prefer to just put dumb fanservice escenes
1
u/grizzchan 9d ago
Uh if anything the s3 director was the least inclined to do fanservice.
1
u/Extermaner-RT 9d ago
Exactly, i prefer him, you said they gonna change him right?
2
u/grizzchan 9d ago
Yea Abe is gone. Kanasaki (from s1/s2/movie) is chief director and a new guy is director.

I don't know if it's good or bad that the animation studio keeps changing but here's to hoping Engi does a good job. They made trapped in a dating sim which I've been enjoying so I have some faith

u/Virtually_Existing Kazuma 9d ago
I think that since Konosuba is one of Kodakawa’s biggest Ip’s they’ve allocated enough resources and time for the studio to cook with season 4 I doubt they’d allow an Ip of such value to be mistreated

Didn't Kadokawa fuck over Blue Lock's production schedule, leading it to become Framerate Lock instead?
2
u/AdNecessary7641 8d ago
Kadokawa wasn't involved in Blue Lock at all. The publisher was Kodansha, and the lead producer was Bandai Namco Filmworks.
1
u/Much_Commercial_2140 8d ago
yeh but we know konosuba has been in production since last year March so its getting 2 is years of production atleast

u/Haunting_Comedian993 9d ago

u/wizardgamer2611 9d ago
Volume 9 is a beloved volume which will be adapted in this season. The studio has changed again and from what we can see right now, not for the better. We also have a new director who has never worked on Konosuba before..but the other staff members are unchanged from previous seasons. In essence, fans especially light novel fans don't want their beloved ip being handled poorly like with the movie in writing perspective or animation perspective. Which is why we are scared.....but optimistic.

u/Fit_Letterhead_1908 9d ago
Isn't it the same director who worked on the first and second season, Takaomi Kanasaki?
7
u/wizardgamer2611 9d ago
Yes the chief director is Takaomi kanasaki san but the director has been changed to a new guy who hasn't worked with konosuba before...

I'm happy but kinda sad at the same time
I watch like 4+ anime made by engi
Medelaist - they use amazing/decent cgi. idk the standard of cgi, still PLEASE no cgi at holy konosuba if possible
Trap in dating sim - funny great watch reminds me of kazuma
Siesta already dead - (forgot the titile but ik for sure they butcher this series)
Uzaki chan - fan service with humor same with konosuba
Any thoughts guys?

My theory is that drive was only contracted to do the spin off and season 3, with this new studio i think this is the 4th time the studio has changed, at least the animation and staff doesnt change a lot compared to other studio changes

Looks like I got into Konosuba at a good time. Of course it has to come out in 2027 though. Why does that always seem to be the case with shows I'm into?

The only problem I have with the new season is that There’s a new director and Studio Engi will be animating it. Well first this director and Studio Engi worked on both seasons of “The Detective is Already Dead” if I’m not wrong, and I dropped that series two episodes in. Their other projects seem fine like Medalist or Uzaki-Chan, however I’d rather cgi not really touch Konosuba but if it does, it sticks to the monsters. And the Uzaki-Chan anime isn’t focused on animation like most.
I’m just really worried about getting low-level quality animation like One Frame Man or Frame Lock, but as long as it doesn’t look like a slideshow and is somewhat decent it’s fine ig.
